However, I did manage to produce a Wine build that complains about a lack of DirectX 3.0a when running Fallout instead of producing a huge list of check_no_exec messages followed by a SEH stack overflow, so I think there was an improvement. In the directory "redist" there was a file msxmlenu.msi and after installing that the game started up fine into the menu's.
