After further testing, disabling all global shortcuts as a workaround means
disabling *all* global shortcuts, which makes it impossible to even alt-tab out.
Clearly this is not a viable workaround (no offense).
Might anyone have workaround that doesn't lock your desktop? I still do not
understand what KDE is doing 'wrong' or 'different' from other WMs.

I take it back. The difference in leadin is
expected (it's the difference between win32 and the underlying nt native api).
This morning's git fails differently; seems to
create the pipe, but then it hangs later on.

Ah, I see that my problem may be an ALSA backend issue. My apologies for the
noise if it's unrelated.

I've never tried TCP/IP, but Battle.Net shows this problem for me. However,
I've had problems with my sound and Blizzard games in the past (Starcraft
manifested disconnect problems often with my Intel chip) and putting sound on
"Emulation" seems to have at least reduced this problem (I haven't been able to
reproduce, but I haven't played for extended periods). With sound disabled
completely I've never seen this problem.

See sections 1, 2, and 6 here: http://wiki.winehq.org/GitWine
It describes how to setup your Git repository and do a regression test. If it's
unclear, stop by #winehq on IRC and someone there usually is available to assist
(though you might have to wait a while after posting your question for a
response). Also, it would probably help to put that information organized in a
new page on the wiki as a help page for people who have never used Git who want
to do a Regression Test. Feel free to start something like that, and I'll be
happy to assist when I get time.
Regarding the bug, I will try to take a look at it tonight or tomorrow.

Or wait, perhaps it's a driver bug for your chip as I can use double buffering
on DRI's r200. nm
