Do proper regression testing: wiki.winehq.org/GitWine
Also before you do anything, make sure that bug is still present in current CVS/GIT.

Running under a virtual desktop does fix the keyboard problem(!!), however, I
will leave this unconfirmed as I would like to see if this can be fixed while
the game is integrated into the window manager (and consequently is allowed to
run fullscreen). Thanks for your help, though!

Im trying to see if the patch which implemented
"Lookup GLSL float uniform locations only once per program"
has the issue - but am unable to build it. Checking out the following files
dlls/wined3d/device.c 1.277
dlls/wined3d/glsl_shader.c 1.44
dlls/wined3d/stateblock.c 1.52
dlls/wined3d/drawprim.c 1.95
dlls/wined3d/wined3d_private.h 1.191
gives me a link error about
:/home/kapila/Work/Wine/wine.9.20/dlls/wined3d/device.c:3309: undefined
reference to `StencilFunc'

Summary: Wine 0.9.20 breaks Everquest 2
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.20.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wine(a)kapila.force9.co.uk
Wine 0.9.19 allowed Everquest 2 to run as far as entering the 3d part of the
game (ie putting a character in the world) at which point there was a crash in
the EverQuest2.exe
However it looks like 0.9.20 has broken this so that you cannot get that far.
When running normally, you get back ground music, and about 3 full screen
images are displayed, followed by a login prompt. With 9.20, you only get a
black screen. (music still plays.)
Replacing the wined3d.dll.so with the 0.9.19 version allows it to work again, so
it appears that something in the 0.9.20 build of this dll is causing the problem.
So far it appears the issue was not introduced by changes to directx.c or
surface.c so it must be in one of
dlls/wined3d/arb_program_shader.c
dlls/wined3d/device.c
dlls/wined3d/drawprim.c
dlls/wined3d/glsl_shader.c
dlls/wined3d/stateblock.c

It's also a completely unrelated patch (it moved update region
handling to the server). How odd that this should cause this failure.
Are you quite sure?

I just upgraded my system to Debian's wine 0.9.16 and SoulSeek seems to still
work fine.
