Fix your Kernel & GLIBC first. Then things might work better.

What version of slackware do you have? I think you are hitting two different bugs.

Using git 2006-09-20, running slackware 10.2, sound set to OSS, clicking on the
Audio tab does not crash wine. My card is a SB Live 5.1

Exactly same problem right here. If this is a problem with fonts not setup
correctly, at least a warning should be given somehow i think.

Summary: Sound on slackware
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.21.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary

Guys, i have a problem in directsound; i have some sound in certains
applications, but others i have no sound. (i.e. Counter Strike works great, but
only wave sound (i think that's wave sound) plays; mp3 or other formats doesn't.)
so, i'm encouraged to run winecfg an set up the audio, as the stacktrace said.
But when i click over Audio tab, i have an error. I saw it works on Ubuntu (the
audio Tab), but unfortunely i haven't tested yet; on my Slackware i have that
"boom", and i don't know why.
I will try to attach 2 stacktraces, and i hope that someone can understand what
happens.

I hope I have the fonts property configured but I have the same problem when I'm
using a clean ~/.wine without any extra fonts installed. The first font
WineEngCreateFontInstance chooses is Marlett and the text is unreadable. If I
install more fonts another font is chosen so the text becomes readable.
The application uses "MS Sans Serif" which is built by wine but it asks for
charset=SHIFTJIS_CHARSET (128) so maybe that's why it doesn't work.
