Summary: Heroes of Might and Magic 5 - Selecting TwinView
resolution 2560x1024 doesn't work
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.44.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: wine-directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: martyspamtrap(a)comcast.net
I've modified my user.reg file in my .wine directory to add
"VideoMemorySize"="512" in "Software\\Wine\\Direct3D". The options menu in
Heroes 5 shows all of my configured X resolutions as it should, including my
TwinView (nVidia GeForce 6600 using nVidia accelerated driver) mode of
2560x1024 (2 monitors, horizontal).
When I select this resolution (coming from 1280x1024), my second monitor
flickers on momentarily, then goes out. The first monitor shows all of the
text on the main menu screen 2x wider than it normally is. When you mouse-over
the text, it redraws it in the proper aspect ratio. The second monitor stays
off and the game proceeds to fit everything on the first monitor, still running
1280x1024.

Summary: Wine causes process hang in kernel when running
applications from FAT partition
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.39.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: krzysiek-bugs.winehq.org(a)lichota.net
Distro: Kubuntu Dapper 6.06
Wine: 0.9.9-0ubuntu2 (tested also with 0.9.39 from winehq.org)
Kernel: 2.6.15-29-386 (2.6.15-29.58)
This is kernel bug, but affects only wine, so workaround in wine is easier.
When .exe is run from FAT partition, wine process gets stuck in kernel in "D"
state and cannot be killed.
I have straced the process and it appears it is stuck in:
ioctl(9, TUNIOCGETINFO or VFAT_IOCTL_READDIR_BOTH
This way user can prevent unmounting FAT partition by running wine on FAT
partition.
To reproduce:
1. Mount any FAT volume (for example USB pendrive)
2. Copy some file.exe file to it.
3. Run: wine /media/mydisk/file.exe
4. Wine hangs and cannot be killed.
Possible workaround is to recompile wine with "#define VFAT_IOCTL_READDIR_BOTH"
in dlls/ntdll/directory.c commented out.
I have checked that it works.

Wine output for Launch.exe
After installation, which completed with no errors, I tried launching the
Launch.exe executable that the installer placed from the Terminal, which
resulted in a "not enough memory" error while attempting to load
KumaClientNet.exe. Trying to launch that executable manually results in a stack
overflow error in Terminal. As a side note, attempting to launch the executable
Kuma.exe results in an error that seems to have been previously reported in Bug
#9200.

Summary: Input Method's output overruns the buffer of wine
keyboard input
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.46.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux

Typing and entering over 8 letters in Japanese with input method, wine outputs
an error which says 'buffer overflow need n*3!' (n is the number of Japanese
letters here) , when input ignored and/or occationally the application will be
down.
There may be a patch for it somewhere on the Net but the patch's version is
very old and the patch I found may differ to what I want. So patching it is
awful for me.
Is there good information?
I hope the next or the near version of wine will be fixed that bug.
My best regards.

When updating from 0.9.44 to 0.9.45 all 3D models (characters and
items/boxes/vegitation ect.) in Guild Wars become invisible, nothing there at
all, everything else renders as it should altho text renders at first, after a
few seconds/minutes depening on activity (more = faster) test disappears
aswell.
Client can be downloaded altho you can't get far in without an account you can
see the text problem just opening options menu at start and klicking back and
forward between the general, grafic and sound tab without making any changes.

Summary: free space is based on dosdevice free space, rather than
partition free space
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.34.
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: michael.s.gilbert(a)gmail.com
wine will return the incorrect amount of free space to applications under
certain common scenarios. it appears that the free space is determined by the
dosdevice that has the directory that the application is running from. it
should be expected that the free space returned would be based on the partition
that has the directory that the application is running from instead.
let me provide an example to clarify. i've installed steam to
/home/user/games, which falls under the z:/ dosdevice, which is a symlink to /.
/ and /home are on different partions:
$ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda3 9.2G 7.9G 914M 90% /
/dev/hda6 63G 30G 30G 50% /home
i am trying to install half-life2 via steam, which should be fine because i
have 30 GiB of free space in /home. however, the steam application says this
is not possible because there is only 914 MiB of free space, and the game needs
3.8 GiB total to install. wine is providing the free space for / instead of
/home to the application.
note that if i install the game to /home/user/.wine/drive_c/steam, then wine
correctly returns 30 GiB free space to steam and i can install the application.
i believe this is because the drive_c directory appears to be under the c:/
dosdevice, rather than the z:/ dosdevice. this is a solution, but it is far
from optimal to be forced into arranging my files in a way that i don't want
to.
so i think the problem is that wine returns the size of the partition of the
dosdevice that apparently has the working directory, rather than the size of
the partition that actually has the working directory.
i still don't think i've clearly explained this, so if you have questions,
please ask.
thanks for all the hard work on wine.

Summary: Photoshop Elements 4 goes into infinite recursion
Product: Wine

Platform: Other

With the patch
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2007-August/043447.html and the
next one it's possible to install Photoshop Elements 4. However the app will go
into infinite recursion - QDialog::move will call QWidget::event and this will
call QDialog::move. The only call the the APIs is
SystemParametersInfo(SPI_GETWORKAREA, ...) that returns a value which isn't
senseless.
It uses Qt 3.3.1.1 and there is no source code for this version generally
available - the open source version of Qt for Windows is only available for Qt
4.x. Maybe I should ask them if I can get a 30-day evaluation version.
