You're right: when I set the Windows version to WinXP the problem is gone! I had set the Windows version to Win95 because that was recommended by Franks Corner (http://frankscorner.org/index.php?p=office97 great website!). But maybe that was only necessary to install Office 97. The problem seems to have disappeared now. Ever since 0.9.20 (and up to present) the game crashes during the loading screen. Wine doesn't actually print anything suspicious but I'll attach the output anyway. Have you investigated some kind of a log? Does commenting out an error exit in X11DRV_CreateBitmap help? > What makes you think that this is /not/ the cause for the black icons?
