------- Additional Comments From Speeddymon(a)gmail.com 2007-20-03 09:47 -------
Before I attach the traces, here is some additional info
If I go into winecfg and uncheck the box to link wine's desktop to x's
~/Desktop, and then manually create
~/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/profiles/(user)/Start\ Menu and
~/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/profiles/(user)/Start\ Menu/Programs
Then when I install WinRAR, the lnk files go to the proper location in
~/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/profiles/(user)/<Desktop/Start\ Menu/Start\
Menu/Programs> and the .desktop files are put in the correct location under
either ~/Desktop or ~/.local/share/applications/wine
SO the correct fix is to make (most likely wineprefixcreate) create
~/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/profiles/(user)/Start\ Menu and
~/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/profiles/(user)/Start\ Menu/Programs
and make winecfg default to _not_ linking the user's wine desktop/my docs etc to
the user's xorg desktop/home dir etc

Summary: menubuilder is broken
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-programs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: Speeddymon(a)gmail.com
Currently wine and the menubuilder/shelllink is broken in a couple of ways..
1) winecfg defaults to directing the windows desktop to the user's xorg
~/Desktop. This is bad because then wine puts a .lnk file and a .desktop file
on the user's ~/Desktop when it installs a program.. wine should put all .lnk
files in an out of the way location like ~/.wine/menubuilder/<Menu/Desktop> and
then make the .desktop files from there and put them to the real desktop..
2) There is no Start Menu folder created under wine's windows profile, which
causes at least WinRAR to put menu icons under the program's install directory.
Wine needs to at least make a Start Menu symlink in
drive_c/windows/profiles/(user)/ that points to the xorg menu location so that
programs can at least find the start menu, and then as above, should redirect
lnk files to the correct location..
I will attach traces here.

Summary: Max Payne 2: Save game doesn't save screenshots
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.33.
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.rockstargames.com/maxpayne2/mp2_downloads.htm

OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mahasler(a)gmail.com
When you save a game in Max Payne 2 it should create a screenshot of the game in
action. The screenshots are then shown in the load game dialog (which is very
practical). However, with wine this doesn't work and all the screenshots in the
load dialog are just black.

This has been fixed in wine-0.9.33. I guess this bug can be closed.

Zemax is a proprietary optical simulator. I've jet tested the 2003 version that
was were available at our lab, and it worked perfectly:
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iAppId=4422
Now I've tried the 2005 version and wine crashes on zemax startup. The same
version works ok on windows (only tried with windows XP). The demo version
available online works with wine too (the last time I've tried). I would like to
use the simulator on Linux.
If you need further debug information please ask what to test and I'll report
the results.

Tired from waiting, I took wine 0.9.30, applied the patch, built deb packages
and uploaded to following URL:
http://catchmedia.com/~arieh/wine_direct_ddraw
Now the game runs acceptable on Pentium 166, 64MB RAM.

Summary: DInput bug in Grand Theft Auto Series
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.33.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-dinput
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mahasler(a)gmail.com
There's a strange dinput bug in the GTA series (GTA 3, GTA ViceCity & GTA
SanAndreas). Whenever you start a game with a gamepad plugged in the protagonist
will start running ahead immedeately. That means for some reason the game engine
detects the left analog stick being pushed up although it isn't. Also, actually
moving the left Stick doesn't have any effect at all. The x axis of the right
analog stick is detected correctly, however the y axis isn't detected. Instead
the y axis of the POV is falsely being detected as the y axis of the right
analog stick. The x axis of the POV isn't recognized.
All the buttons seem to work correctly, so it's just the axes that are messed up.
Wine doesn't print out anything dinput-related. So if needed, please let me know
how I can get wine to print out useful debug information for this.
Thanks.
