it is running off my wine partition, i installed it in windows (as the installer
does not seem to work in wine) then copied it and all its registry entries over
to my wine drive then ran it in wine.

Created an attachment (id=6754)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=6754&action=view)
backtraces of all threads (bt all) after "Register" is pressed in Xfire.
Some suspections from the log. One thread's
(from nspr4.dll / Gecko?) backtrace starts
with WS_select(). Well, my DSL line is bad.
But more probably that comes from Gecko IPC.
And the code of next thread (0031) seems to
be in 16-bit mode. Also related to Gecko?

Tested with Wine-0.9.39. To ease debugging
I enabled "Emulate virtual desktop" via winecfg.
During install process I chose to download
Gecko engine. If I click "Check Username
Availability" then, nothing happens but the
only line in the output:
002d:fixme:mshtml:HTMLDocument_get_Script (0x1e69fe0)->(0x33e400)
If then I click "Register", following is printed:
002d:fixme:mshtml:HTMLDocument_get_Script (0x1e69fe0)->(0x33e3a0)
002d:fixme:mshtml:HTMLDocument_get_Script (0x1e69fe0)->(0x33e3a0)
002d:fixme:mshtml:HTMLDocument_get_Script (0x1e69fe0)->(0x33e3a0)
Both buttons get disabled (grayed out) after
this and then nothing happens again. At least
for a 30 minutes. Attaching backtraces.

The page fault seems to be in a DLL custom action, specifically the DLL ends up
in the command "winedevice GEARAspiWDM" being called which calls LoadLibrary as
follows (sorry for pasting this but it is so short):
000f:Call KERNEL32.LoadLibraryW(0012e198 L"System32\\Drivers\\GEARAspiWDM.sys")
ret=7ee76721
000f:Call PE DLL (proc=0x354000,module=0x350000
L"GEARAspiWDM.sys",reason=PROCESS_ATTACH,res=(nil))
000f:Call KERNEL32.__wine_emulate_instruction(7ecd44a0,7ecd41d4) ret=7ee035e2
000f:Ret KERNEL32.__wine_emulate_instruction() retval=00000001 ret=7ee035e2
000f:Call KERNEL32.UnhandledExceptionFilter(7ecd4060) ret=7bc30a03
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x00350038 at address 0x354010
(thread 000f), starting debugger...
But on my machine, at least trying the installer twice on a plain wine install,
it still seems to finish and get me to a "Congrats..." everything installed screen.

OK I can reproduce it (did it 3 times in a row).
-put only 128MB of ram in a computer :)
-boot ubuntu Feisty
-run system monitor
-run Opera (or any other app taking more ram than you have so the system has to
swap for a moment) and utorrent at the same time
uTorrent will run without systray. It looks like wine/utorrent/gnome XEMBED
implementation doesnt like swapping.
