Summary: attempted to read 0x0 in wined3d (suspect
D3DCB_DefaultDestroySurface())
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.40.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: sibaz(a)sibaz.com
Wine running Rome: Total War (NoCD1.5 version), under ubuntu - feistey (with
wine hq packages in list of sources), crashes and gives a backtrace.
Bug is highly reproducible on my system, but without symbols, the best I can
infer from interpreting the backtrace, is that its within 2 calls of
D3DCB_DefaultDestroySurface+0x78() in wined3d
Immediately before the call, I can see a fixme: report that D3D8CB_CreateSurface
failed, so I'm guessing the called didn't check the return value for an error,
and just called D3DCB_DefaultDestroySurface with whatever value it got back
(although that is a guess, having not seen the code)
(I'll now attempt to attach the backtrace)

1. Did some further testing and found out that this only happens with both
shaders active. If you disable one (no matter which) or both everything looks
like it should.
2. By the way: has anyone noticed that the train in the first cutscene video
moves way too slow? (so the police car drives through it) on native, it passes
by before.
I wonder if its just me.. can anyone confirm one of these?

Its using SecuROM 7.00.00.0017.
But I'm not too worried about copy protection as I can always use a crack. With
a crack the game starts up then immediately crashes.

Using Dan's patch in comment 5 fixes the problem for me in wine 0.9.40. Out of
curiosity, why hasn't this patch been submitted yet?
