Confirming. Next step is to figure out
whether the http:// is added by iexplore.exe
on windows, or whether the underlying dll defaults
urls to http://.

It's fair to give users workarounds. My favorite workaround
would be to point them at a set of applications which,
if any one is installed, will fix the problem by
installing a copy of mfc42. Winetricks is an ok workaround
too but it's kind of command-line-y, and it relies on
goodwill from Microsoft, so I wouldn't push it on end users.

Nice analysis! BTW our implementation of BITS is
slowly getting cleaned up and submitted by Dan Hipschman,
it should be able to do basic file retrievals by
next month.

Augustin, bug 7551 has been fixed.
Can you check Cinema 4D with wine-0.9.54 to see if
it now makes better use of dual core processors?
