Pretty straightfoward problem: using the default configuration, the scepter cursor draws almost flawlessly, but it doesn't hide the X cursor, so the scepter gets drawn under the X cursor. This is probably a duplicate of something, but I can't find anything obvious with a simple Bugzilla search.
