> Wine 0.9.59-0ubuntu4
That version is now 6 months old, please try again in wine 1.1.6. If still
present, attach updated terminal output.

Same behaviour with wine 1.1.6, along with some minor graphical glitching on
the background that I don't remember before.

Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron)
Wine 0.9.59-0ubuntu4
With http://wiki.winehq.org/PreloaderPageZeroProblem sysctl workaround so other
16 bit code (compiled VB 3.0 and MSVC 1.52 program) works fine.
Problem continues to occur with VB 3.0 installation.
Sorry for "abandoning" this bug report back in April: I was a bit busy and qemu
was doing the job well enough for my purposes (though I'd prefer to use Wine).

So how can we test this? :-) Some hidden registry value? :-)

Is this still an issue with Wine 1.1.6 ?

I forget. Which variables am I supposed to set to which values for relevant
debugging output in this situation? The default output on my system is just the
following complaints about apparently harmless stubs in DirectSound and some
tweaks to my audio and video systems to keep Wine apps from being able to muck
with my system configuration.
err:alsa:ALSA_CheckSetVolume Could not find 'PCM Playback Volume' element
fixme:mixer:ALSA_MixerInit No master control found on USB Device 0x46d:0x8d7,
disabling mixer
err:ole:CoUninitialize Mismatched CoUninitialize
err:x11settings:X11DRV_ChangeDisplaySettingsEx No matching mode found
800x600x32 @0! (XRandR)
fixme:dsalsa:IDsDriverBufferImpl_SetVolumePan (0x1a72d08,0x1bbc78): stub
In order, those are basically, "Your mixer is odd... so we can't let Windows
apps muck with it against your will", "Your USB microphone doesn't have a
master volume control", <No clue about the OLE one, but it doesn't seem
harmful>, "You've set your xorg.conf to only accept one resolution. That's not
fair!", and the stub message.
Oh, and a whole lotta these when I skip untranslated character voices which
correspond to text I read much more quickly than it gets spoken. (Also
apparently harmless)
err:dsound:DSOUND_MixOne Fatal error. Under/Overflow? primary_done=20468,
mixpos=660856/768000 (303582/352800), primary_mixpos=20860, writepos=392,
