Summary: wine locks up during WoW play
Product: Wine
Version: CVS/GIT
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: ntdll
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: iphands(a)yahoo.com
I had some hardware trouble due to ram, and after spending a few weeks on the
badram patches I bought 2GB of nice new ram. The new stuff passes hours of
memtest86 and hours of kernel compile loops so my hardware is basically sound
(for a while at least. knock on wood).
Ever since my ram troubles I have had wine problems (Well WoW problems (which
is what I use wine for)). I proceeded to recompile all the packages on my box
(emerge -e world, emerge -e wine for those who are familiar with Gentoo) using
the same setup I have been using for years now (same cflags and such). I always
grab wine via git and I am current as of this morning.
The issue is a freeze in full-screen while playing WoW the error looks as
follows:

Wine-dbg>
I am not at all familiar with debugging wine; just thought I would put this out
there in case anyone else is having problems.
If anyone sees that I am doing something wrong please let me know. I tried to
rebuild everything and repair WoW (Repair.exe checks checksums to verify wow
data) in case the bad memory had screwed up bits on my hard drive, but my
problems persist.
Preemptive Thanks,
-Ian
p.s. seems to happen randomly after a bit of play... taking anywhere from 5 -
50 minutes.

Playing games like Counter-Strike over Steam won't work anymore, I remember
that in wine 0.9.49 (I think, I'm not sure) it worked... what a pity!
Game crashes and resolution craps, backtrace is in attachment

Interesting bit of +module,+text,+relay,+file
I'm the proud owner of an original 16 bit Where in the World is C.S.
disc from 1995. Running the installer fails immediately
with the dialog box
Cannot load library: 'SHELL.DLL'
Doing
touch ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/shell.dll
works around this, and lets you get to the next problem
(can't register app with program manager via DDE, but
that's another bug).
So I guess we need to create a fake 16 bit shell.dll
to make this app happy... it ought to be in system,
not system32, but touching it there didn't help.
I've attached the key part of the wine log.

log of dotnetfx3
First of all, I am using a Wine under XP with .NET 2 and Windows installer 3.1
installed.
I used cabextract to extract setup.exe because otherwise it couldn't find the
path to extract.
I also added ClusApi.dll in /windows/system32.
Seen that way the setup is starting (log of dd_dotnetfx3install.txt attached,
uxeventlog.txt and dd_dotnezfx3error.txt are hardly showing anything except for
ÿþ)
It ran and ran in the background and since nothing happened (no new line on the
log), I tried to kill it which didn't work. After some time I got the following
message on the console:

Saw a note at

saying that zoundry blog writer required real ie6 and mfc42

rm -rf .wine
sh winetricks vcrun6
wine zBlogWriter.exe
and tried starting the app. It crashes quickly, after putting up
a small splash screen. Here are a few lines from the log:
