I've just updated today to 0.9.58 from wine 0.9.57 using the official ubuntu
repositories reported in the main page and i've found a regression regarding
quicktime (7.4).
At a first look the application seems to load fine but when i do file=>open
file... and choose a quicktime movie (it was exported from keynote in mp4 and
has points where the animation locks automatically waiting for the user to
interact: that's why i can't use linux applications to see these... they don't
support this) the quicktime window goes to the top left and after some seconds
it closes itself.
Running wine from command line reported an unhandled exception which wasn't
there till last version. and the application seems to quit before the crash
backtrace.
As a side note the only way to make quicktime even launch (and work almost
correcly till 0.9.57 except some gui glitches which are of little importance)
is loading a native gdiplus.dll.
attached is the console output.

The top is an application in Wine, the bottom is the same application in
windows XP.
Since windows XP, icons in .ico format support semi transparency. Certain
programs use icons with transparency in their forms, seems Wine does not render
this transparency correctly, some apps look akward:

Summary: Joystick POV (hatswitch) doesn't work
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.58.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: bjdelta(a)infinito.it
This bug was already reported in the past and assumed solved with version
0.9.43 but it's still present. Joystick hatswitch is seen by wine as 2 axis and
not as a POV, despite any modification in the registry of windows (as suggested
here http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys ). The bug can be verified using
a little windows utility "joytester" (available for download here
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Joystick-Tester.sh…
) and therefore it's not related to a specific application. My joystick is
Microsoft SideWinder Precision 2 connected via USB and the POV is correctly
detected under linux (UBUNTU 7.10) and tested with "jscalibrator". This bug
prevents from using any kind of game under wine that needs the use of an
hatswitch, especially flight simulation programs.

Summary: Orbit downloader runs but can't capture traffic
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.58.
Platform: PC

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

Orbit downloader is an app to help download videos especially over tricky
protocols like RTMP (which downloadhelper can't cope with). It runs ok in wine
but doesn't see any traffic. Steps to reproduce problem:
1) Download and install orbit downloader
2) Make sure you have internet explorer installed
3) Run Grab.exe from orbit downloader install or from the Tools menu of Orbit
Downloader
4) Open http://videolectures.net/gbr07_bunke_aqpa/ in IE and play video which
amazingly does work in wine :)
Nothing is captured by Grab. This is the same with videos from youtube for
example.
The only errors produced by Grab are
err:listview:LISTVIEW_WindowProc unknown msg 204e wp=000003e8 lp=0034c384
I am on ubuntu 7.10 with wine 0.9.58.

Output of WINEDEBUG=+msi wine 'e:\QT\QuickTimeInstaller'
A well-meaning relative bought me a program recently which comes with an
unknown version of QuickTime. QT is critical to this program's function, so
almost the first thing it does is try to kick off the QT installer; and this
fails.
Using the native MSI DLLs doesn't work either, as these work only under Win98,
and this version of QuickTime only works with Win2K or above (you get a dialog
complaining if the version is set too low).
It appears that the installer is trying to run VBScript or something of that
nature without first installing VBScript, and I can't figure out how to install
that (I grabbed scripten.exe from MS, but it insists that it can't find
anywhere to install itself and I haven't figured out why yet). (Output from qt
installation run with DEBUG=msi attached.)
(If VBScript is supposed to be provided by the installer, which I thought it
was, what is QT doing trying to run it without checking if it's there?)

Summary: WSAStartup() is not required to do networking
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.49.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P1
Component: winsock
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mark(a)ookoo.org
On Windows (tested at least on Xp, and this is also according to MSDN doc),
when calling any network function, you absolutely have to call WSAStartup()
before.
If you didn't call WSAStartup(), any ws2_32 function will fail, with error
WSANOTINITIALISED (10093).
I'm writing cross-compilable programs on linux that should also run on Win32,
and I do all my tests on wine.
It took me a while to find out why people trying to use this program on real
windows boxes had troubles accessing network.
The expected behaviour for Winsock2 functions is to fail, unless WSAStartup()
was called. For each time you call WSAStartup(), you have to call WSACleanup()
once.

On the frontpage of Bugzilla, you are offered a search plugin. This plugin has
the caption "Bugzilla" and a generic Bugzilla icon. This way, it could be any
Bugzilla, nothing shows it's the Wine one.
Instead, the caption should be something like "Wine Bugzilla" and the icon
should also be related to Wine. (Maybe the Favicon?)

When I try to run the halo demo I get white boxes over the areas that should
say campaign, etc. I can not click on any of them. I tried using the keyboard,
but that was unsuccessful. I attempted safe mode, but that still did not work.
I even installed directx 9.0 march 2008 distribution. The halo demo still had
the white boxes covering the menu items after that.

This is a blog showing halo working under wine.
http://wine-review.blogspot.com/2008/03/directx-90c-march-2008-redistributa…
This is a blog showing how to install directx 9.0c march 2008 redistributable,
which I thought would help, but it did not seem to. It mentioned that I have a
GeForce graphics card when it asked me if I wanted to run in safe mode. I
actually have an ATI Radeon X1050 graphics card. I keep updating to the newest
release to see if the latest improvements to wine will make it work properly.
