When directx is enabled in nocturene (only way to make it play at acceptable
frame rates and resolutions) Polygons go missing on 70% of the actors, they are
transparent, this happens in directx 5, 6, and 7.
there are a lot of errors like this top bit repeating, i think the d3d_surface
errors are what are messing it up, but thats a blind guess on my part. This can
be tested via a demo, if anyone feels like takling this i can send them a copy
of the game as well.

Running Wine 0.9.52 from the Wine repository in Ubuntu 7.10
Attempting to run "The Cat In The Hat", part of the 'Living Book' series (see

It starts up well enough (Tried in 95, 98, ME and XP modes. I'm using 'emulate
a virtual desktop'; it appears to automatically resize to 640 x 480), but if I
move my mouse over the window (e.g. to click a button on screen) it
consistently crashes with: "Segmentation fault (core dumped)"

I successfully installed the demo on wine 1.0-rc2
but the game crashes in the menu, despite of all wine's graphical option test
I edited the hardwaresetting.ini of the game to get the best compatibility with
different tuning

Fireworks 8 trial
(Fireworks8-en.exe, sha1sum fc254cbabb084a9d619e0277dd3a46b20fbd48aa)
installs and runs fine in general in my 60 seconds of
extensive testing. The first problem I noticed was
that opening an existing image from the initial "what
do you want to do" splash dialog works, but doesn't
draw the unused part of the document window with background, leaving
large remnants of the "what do you want to do" dialog
hanging around. Maximizing the window or anything that forces
a redraw properly draws the background.
