Summary: Heroes of Might and Magic 5: Crash at startup
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0.0
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: xvachon(a)gmail.com
Wine 1.0 & PlayonLinux 3.0.6
The install goes fine,
When attempting to load the game from the PlayOnLinux menu, the desktop shows
in black, and vanishes after 5-10 seconds.
However, when I tried to load the game in the PlayOnLinux debugger with this
command : "wine H5_Game.exe", the game started normally.
Is this a bug related to PlayonLinux or Wine? It is confusing since both apps
do work together, and technically the run command in POL means "wine <name of
game.exe>

That would be a workaround, not a fix.

Has anyone tried the recent patch sent to the patches list entitled:
secur32: Allow loading external schannel.dll
Apparently it fixes this bug. I'll try myself when I get some time.

I'm trying to install mathcad on ubuntu 8.10 with wine-1.0
There are some installing activity in some seconds and then setup crashes.
Tryed on wine-0.9x and all 1.0RCs. The same.
Stderr begins with

I don't use any native dlls, but cat try to install something with winetools or
copy any from my notebook's windows. I think, it's not any kind of crime, couse
I have windows logo on the bottom of notebook and some junk cdroms from
notebook vendor.
P.S.
MathCAD is not a free application, so I can't give download URL here.
I can make an archive with all setup files and put it on any file-share server.
But without any serial numbers. :-/

Can you try with X set to 16 bpp, and maybe try on a computer with a nvidia
card?

Not abandoned.
> Do you still experience this problem?
It's hard to tell. Currently this bug is blocked by double-regression (first
regression was incorrect real-time reflection and second was no reflection at
all so shiny reflective KITT is now just *completely* black at Super detail
level).
Long time ago I tried to do a regression test but didn't finished it (it was
too boring on my old (1750 MHz) one-core PC). Now when I have 3.4 GHz quad-core
processor I probably will try again. For now I just reopen this bug but note
that it is impossible to say anything about its current status as long as
mentioned above double-regression blocking it. I will fill separate bug report
for it soon (when I find time to do the regression test).
> BTW: The url you gave is not good... I did find the demo still, but I don't
> know whether it's the same version and I'm not on a 64-bit comp.
Please change URL field to working link then. Exact version isn't relevant as
long as real-time reflections are turned on (and this is what Super level of
detail is doing). Thanks.
BTW, I'm using 32-bit Wine with 32-bit libraries (all dependencies are
satisfied), so the fact that I'm using 64-bit version of OS is irrelevant in
this case.

Adds unformatted text.
This patch adds very simple code to output text with TxDraw and measure it's
size using TxGetNaturalSize.
This is sufficient to get a bare bones working version of Google Talk.
Setting the default character formatting still needs to be done and I'm working
on that now.
It is a long way from actually rendering richtext, but at least you can see
something when loading google talk.
I've combined the old patch (which defines a variable where the current text is
stored) into this patch. They need to be together.
The patch applies to git at commit dd01d39f3b8.
