Summary: Sound plays 4 times too fast in winecfg and some
applications
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.0
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mgsx2(a)hotmail.com
I have a serious sound problem with CS 1.6 since Wine 0.9.60 or so. The sounds
are played much too fast, like 4 times the normal speed and sound very high.
This happens with all possible playback settings in Wine and CS.
The problem occurs with the most recent CS 1.6 Steam, ALSA and OSS, Wine 1.1.0
on Debian Sid and 2.6.26rc7 kernel. Sound card driver is provided by the linux
kernel intel-hda family "Analog Devices AD1988B".
Other games run fine, without any sound problems. My audio configuration is
correct and I do not have any problems in games like Warcraft 3 or applications
like Rosetta Stone.
The problem also occurs when I click the Test Sound button in winecfg "Audio".
It happens with all possible settings, sample rates, hardware accelerations
levels, driver settings (emulation or not) and with ALSA *and* OSS. I tried all
possible combinations.

Failure messages for software and D3D modes
Wing Commander Prophecy and Secret Ops crash in both software and Direct3D
modes, leaving the screen at the resolution the programs were running at
(usually 640x480). OpenGL mode works, though it is extremely slow.
Using Intel 945GM video, Wine 0.9.56, also confirmed in 1.0.0. Accel method for
XOrg is EXA, but this also happens when using XAA, or when using the i810
driver instead of the intel one.

Summary: winhlp32+server hang when I don't want to find the .hlp

Product: Wine

kill -INT 12396 -- winhlp32 process gets rid of them all.
Reproducable with empty .wine. This opens no desktop window but the
tasks are still running. Were I to choose a desktop window with winecfg, the
wine window would remain open.
I'm running 1.0rc4 compiled myself, with wine within the compilation directory.
$ wine winhlp32 notexisting.hlp ...-> "No" doesn't hang.

Select and view chm files
html help does not work in 1.0-rc3
I have tried many different ways to get this to work including substituting
hh.exe and hhctrl.ocx from windows xp to no avail.
Last tested on a new wine 1.0-rc3 under ubuntu 8.04
I listed this as major because many of the programs I would like to run using
wine will not display their help file correctly( I have to close the app to
close the help window).
I'm a bit concerned that this isn't listed in issues to be fixed for the 1.0
release. chm has been around for 10 years and is used in a majority of
non-gaming applications.
Attached file is a simple program that displays chm files using a call to
hhctrl.ocx. Works fine in windows.
