Kernel modules are ftdi_sio and usbserial. Without a symlink in dosdevices, I receive an error "could not setup serial port" whereas with the symlink, I receive "No rabbit processor detected". These are the same errors I would get in Windows if I chose a non-existent comm port (ex, Comm 8) and if I chose a valid port but didn't connect the device, respectively. This does not happen in 7-Zip, so I suspect it is related to wxWindows or Python (which Wrye Bash uses).
