Do you have it installed in a clean prefix? Did you compile it yourself?
Because it works very fine here with Wine 1.1.17!

This problem doesn't exist if you use a virtual desktop :)
At least not in the two games I encountered it in before using such, namely
shogo: mobile armor division, and halo. Both have fine mouse movement when run
in a virtual desktop :)
