Little "exploit" to test this bug.
Overflow in Wine Notepad.
There is a overflow when opening a file containing a line which contain 24576
symbols (>= 24 Kb). If open such file Wine Notepad will exit with message:
lastik@lastik:~/src/wine/cvs$ wine notepad
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 18 (X_ChangeProperty)

If you will open text file which contains string with more than 8192 symbols

Summary: Regression: Morrowind detects wine-1.1.19 (in win98

OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED

When trying to run Morrowind with wine-1.1.19 in win98 mode, it will stop with
a notice that a debugger was detected and that it will close now for that
reason. This effect does not happen with 1.1.18, there Morrowind runs without
problems.
I installed Morrowind flawlessly and patched it to 1.2.0722 (latest official
patch as of now), running on a Gentoo linux system (amd64).

I can confirm that BF2 (Complete Colection updated to 1.41 patch) works OK
under Wine 1.1.4 but not in previuos versions !!! they work in previous version
till you respawn and/or be severely injured or killed...with Wine 1.1.4 works
OK w/o this problem....only thing is that textures must be set to low or else
you get some black holes in the ground....the other issue is some black
lines...BTW, how can i attach an image to show the results ?!?, TIA, AJSB

The missing d3dx9_36.dll.D3DXCreateEffectPool() function is bug 5729.

patching wine for the

problem and using -novideo)
gets Drakensang to the loading bar. The cursor turns brown (animated cursor)
then and a black screen happens with builtin DLLs. Using native, builtin for
all DLLs got me an additional error message:
*** NEBULA ASSERTION ***

This does not happen in pure builtin mode, but then, nothing but a black screen
happens. This is on a Mobility Radeon 9600, Catalyst fglrx drivers 8.9.
There is a related forum post in the appdb entry from Florian Ritter. The game
seems to work on Nvidia cards.
The captured wine error log (pure builtin DLLs) is attached. Do you have any
ideas what might cause the bug?

Wine provides symbol.ttf...perhaps we should also provide arial and windings.

Running git sources for wine (about 2 months old) and this bug still exists.
I'll try updating wine, but the last time I tried it failed to compile so I
just put it off for awhile. I am using the native DirectPlay DLLs from the
DirectPlay Games info on the winehq site (the win98se dplay DLLs).

Hello,
well even if they fix their application side by not passing
obsolete/unsupported flags from 16 bit era to GlobalAlloc() (like GMEM_NOTIFY)
which would ideally let Prism5 create/open projects - Wine also needs to be
fixed.
Think of legacy apps from other vendors which do exactly the same.
Wine needs to cope with this (questionable) behaviour, ignoring these obsolete
flags.
Just be patient, someone will evidentally pick it up and send in a patch ..
maybe AJ will do it himself.
Regards

Hello,
just put arial.ttf, wingdings.ttf and symbol.ttf font files (referenced in
resource/jre/lib/font.properties file from unpacked installer/JRE folder) into
your windows fonts folder.
Alternatively use 'winetricks corefonts' which does this for you.
That font manager JNI wrapper is just a crappy piece of software with bad error
handling habits.
It will easily crash on missing or broken fonts - also common on native
Windows.
Just look into Sun's bugzilla for a crapload of bugs regarding this issue.
In short: this is nothing Wine can fix because it doesn't ship these fonts.

GodsWar Online is the first fully IGG designed and produced 3D MMORPG, based on
ancient Greek mythology and culture. The download and installation of the game
goes well. The first issue is when wine runs "launch.exe" from the game
directory but that the small problem because if i use "wine godswars.exe" the
game is starting with no issue. The big issue is after the login and the
creation a character and it appears when i connect to a server. Here is a part
of the error that crashes the game: Function: D3D9VertexDeclaration . Below i

Hello,
--- quote ---
Any thoughts anyone?
--- quote ---
Sure ;-)
The app seems to contain various brain damaged snippets from a 16 bit legacy
code base *argh*
Example: GlobalFlags() return values are directly compared against
GMEM_DISCARDED instead of testing for bit mask.
GlobalFlags() *can* potentially return more than one flag set and even lock
count.
It's only valid to check for GMEM_INVALID_HANDLE directly.
Anyway .. this snippet shows the problem:

The root cause is actually GlobalAlloc( GMEM_DISCARDED | GMEM_ZEROINIT |
GMEM_MOVEABLE, size).
See what MSDN says: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366574.aspx
--- quote ---
HGLOBAL WINAPI GlobalAlloc(
__in UINT uFlags,
__in SIZE_T dwBytes
);
...
uFlags [in]
The memory allocation attributes. If zero is specified, the default is
GMEM_FIXED. This parameter can be one or more of the following values, except
for the incompatible combinations that are specifically noted.
...
The following values are obsolete, but are provided for compatibility with
16-bit Windows. They are ignored.
GMEM_DDESHARE
GMEM_DISCARDABLE
GMEM_LOWER
GMEM_NOCOMPACT
GMEM_NODISCARD
GMEM_NOT_BANKED
GMEM_NOTIFY
GMEM_SHARE
--- quote ---
The "ignored" part is the problem. GMEM_NOTIFY (0x4000) gets passed in.
See how Wine stores the flags:
--- snip dlls/kernel32/heap.c ---
GLOBAL WINAPI GlobalAlloc(
UINT flags, /* [in] Object allocation attributes */
SIZE_T size /* [in] Number of bytes to allocate */
) {
...
pintern = HeapAlloc(GetProcessHeap(), 0, sizeof(GLOBAL32_INTERN));
if (pintern)
{
pintern->Magic = MAGIC_GLOBAL_USED;
pintern->Flags = flags >> 8;
pintern->LockCount = 0;
--- snip dlls/kernel32/heap.c ---
and returns them later:
--- snip dlls/kernel32/heap.c ---
UINT WINAPI GlobalFlags(HGLOBAL hmem)
{
...
if(pintern->Magic==MAGIC_GLOBAL_USED)
{
retval=pintern->LockCount + (pintern->Flags<<8);
if(pintern->Pointer==0)
retval|= GMEM_DISCARDED;
}
...
--- snip dlls/kernel32/heap.c ---
Because the app passed GMEM_NOTIFY which is in the high word (0x4042) -> (flags
>> 8) -> 0x40 it will be later returned as 0x4000 (pintern->Flags<<8) which
has incidentally the value of GMEM_DISCARDED (0x4000).
This is something the app doesn't expect (the memory isn't free'd yet).
I fixed the flags according to MSDN (ignored part) and the app (Prism Demo
v5.0.2) successfully creates new projects and opens existing ones.
