Wine execution log + ActiveHDL console dump
Aldec ActiveHDL 7.1SP2 won't compile VHDL entities.
INTRODUCTION: (for those who don't know the program and its use)
ActiveHDL is a tool for modeling and simulating hardware using VHDL language.
You can create simple logical networks like adders and multiplexers, or complex
circuitry such as CPUs or GPUs. Students use the simulation tools for VHDL
training in hardware design classes.
PROBLEM AND STEPS TO RE-CREATE IT:
Just start ActiveHDL, load or create a VHDL entity within a workspace and try
to compile it. If syntax is OK (else the IDE detects and highlights errors
correctly) you get an error on ActiveHDL embedded console (see log file
attached).
INVESTIGATION:
Looks like the IDE is unable to open a certain file to generate a DAG (Direct
Acyclic Graph) required for entity compilation. The missing file looks like
being named .opr. Everything works fine in Windows, of course. I initially
supposed a case insensivity problem, but another user excluded this
possibility.
Looking at the log file, an interesting section comes to sight. I report it for
convenience:

FEAR crash with ARBfp pipe selected (includes backtrace)
After loading the gamedata (loading savegame) and right before getting ingame
the application crashes.
This does not happen when overriding the settings in
select_fragment_implementation (direct.x) and always selecting the
nvts_fragment_pipeline pipeline.
So it always crashes with the ARBfp pipeline. Sometimes it also crashes with
nvts, but that's kinda random. What's not random is the backtrace (attaching
that one).
Crashing happens in shader_glsl_load_constantsF (glsl_shader.c)
FEAR is running in D3D8 shader mode with GLSL enabled (through wine registry).

Summary: Starfleet Academy runs slow because of cursor
Product: WineHQ Bugzilla
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: bugzilla-unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: colAflash(a)gmx.net
When playing "Starfleet Academy" on Wine it's really slow from the moment on,
it uses 3D acceleration.
This seems to be caused by the cursor. There is a really good way to test that.
In the main menu you click on settings (I use the German version, but in
English should be called settings or something similar). Then you get a little
area where you can see a starship flying through the stars. This area is 3D
accelerated. As soon as you move the cursor over the area everything becomes
very slow. If you put the cursor back to somewhere else on the screen
everything goes back to normal and fast.
If you start a mission to play, the whole screen is 3D accelerated. So it
becomes slow again and there is no way for a work around.
I also tried to set winecfg to emulate a virtual screen. But it helps me
nothing because if I take the cursor out of the virtual screen, the game keeps
rendering it at it's last position in virtual screen.
There are 3 executables in the "Starfleet Academy" directory.
sfa.exe
sfac.exe
sfad3d.exe
sfa.exe and sfac.exe seem to be pretty the same. In Windows startmenu the
installer makes a link for sfa.exe
So if using sfa.exe or sfac.exe the menu part of the game is not 3D
accelerated. But the playing part of the game and the described "area" in the
settings menu are still using 3D acceleration.
If using sfad3d.exe the whole game, including menus, is using direct 3d. So the
problem with the cursor also happends in the menus.
I'm using Wine version 1.1.3
I also tried the patched wine from
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/dbuck/openSUSE_11.0/i586/
as described in this bug
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10708
but it doesn't helps!
At least, my system:
OS: openSUSE 11.0
Wine Version: 1.1.3 from openSUSE repository
Processor: Intel Core Duo
Graphics: ATI Radeon Mobility X1600 (using proprietary drivers version
8.493.1-1-i386)
Please ask if you have questions! Thanks!

Wine console output and game screenshot
Dear Wine Developers,
Good afternoon to all. Iam using linux for about five years. I know about wine
since when I first met it. Wine is becoming a great part of Linux day by day.
I mostly use wine for my gaming. Today Iam going to tell about a game which
I have tested with wine recently.
The name of the game is:
Electronic Arts Cricket 2007.
The experience I have found that:
The sound of the game is OK.
The 2d graphics is OK.
The Keyboard Input is OK.
The Mouse Input is partially OK. (The game could be played without using Mouse)
The main problem is related to 3D graphics. All the 3D graphics is OK such as
Stadium, Audiences and Environment etc. But All the players and related to
these
is not properly rendered.
I have added the screenshots of the game because A picture is sometimes more
worth than a huge number of text.
I have tested the game with Wine VERSION 1.0-rc3.
Best regards,
MD.IMAM HOSSAIN
Wine should replace M$ Windows.
