Summary: Wine version control
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC-x86-64

Some wine users don't know some downloads aren't good for some windows
versions.
Sometimes, install some libs do the wine system do not work anymore, because we
override the correct version of that lib for the version of Windows we are
using with Wine...
For example, the component "ExampleLibPlaySound.dll" is installed to some
application who runs with Windows XP config on Wine. Then I install DCOM98 who
have a ond version of this lib to Windows 98. What happens here: I lost my "XP"
version of the lib and my wine system stop works correctily, and I'm a newbye
user with wine and don't know how fix this.
Wine already have a configuration to work with prefix, why not do Wine create a
prefix for each Windows version automatically? I think if we have a good
project to do this, can be the solution to problems with application
compatibility.
See this case:
I have wine working with Windows 2000 compatibility, then I go install an
application who told me "Windows XP is needed". I open Wine config utility and
put "Windows XP", and now I can install the new application and broke my wine
system without know why exactily.
Wine is trying do 2 or 3 (or more) versions of Windows run at the same
directory! This don't happens with Windows and will not work good with Wine,
and it's not the user who need know how fix this (users are not always
programmers, can be people who knows only use the Office application).
If I'm wrong, please correct me. And thanks for attention. :-)

I was able to get sound to work with Rise of Nations full version + Thrones &
Patriots expansion (Version: 02.03.11.0302).
Wine 1.1.25, Ubuntu 9.04
Had to set the following DLL overrides to native:
dmime
dmsynth
dmusic
dsound
dswave
l3codecx
l3codecx native was required for music. Sound effects worked without it.
I removed native overrides for dmime, dmsynth, dmusic, dsound, and dswave one
by one and confirmed that sound doesn't start if any one of those overrides is
missing.
If you create a separate application profile for the overrides, it needs to be
set on nations.exe.

Jade Empire menu screenshot: colors messed up
Recent changes in wine caused the colors to now appear completely wrong
in the game "Jade Empire", at the start menu and during the game proper
(which is however still unplayable due to the invisible characters).
The change in behavior happened between wine 1.1.23 and 1.1.25.
The colors appear all bluish and greyish.
Attaching screenshot in windowed mode (same results in fullscreen mode).

Summary: Transparent images have a black background

Black Background
This has been an issue for a long time, however, I was waiting for Trillian
Astra to go into public beta testing before I could report it, so others could
test this. Strangely enough, this issue only occurs in Trillian Astra; I
haven't seen this issue in any other program, or any of the earlier version of
Trillian.
The issue is simple enough. Any image with a transparent background appears
black. The image will appear, however, the background, which is suppose to be
transparent, is black.
I will test this on Wine 1.0.25 later tonight after I get off work, running
late enough as is. But, the issue has been here for as long as I can remember.
The screen shot below will best describe what I'm seeing.

With wine 1.0.25 I no longer experienced the "WavMix16.DLL" trouble for Mordor.
Will the sound patch apply cleanly to wine 1.0.25?
