This results in a transparent square icon in the notification area that doesn't work. When hovering over it with the mouse, there should be a tooltip with the download speed. That doesn't show. Right clicking it should give a context menu, doesn't show either and most annoying: you can't bring NL back by left clicking on the icon. Launching NL again has a chance to get it back, but it often happens that that doesn't even work. You end up with NL in the tray unable to recover and you have to kill the process to close it. This problem has existed for some time, but it's become completely broken since 1.3. With 1.0 and 1.2, there were cases where the icon would show and restoring would work from there. Whenever the icon disappears or never shows, it's not working and you have to launch it again to recover, with some luck. This happens on both 32 bit and 64 bit of Wine. Attempt to start the application, and it brings up the wine "there is a problem report the bug" dialog. I was going to run a regression test, but I can't get 32-bit development files for the freetype (1) library on my system, and trying to compile them as 32-bit was another nightmare in and of itself.
