Log of the starting with "WINEDEBUG=+ddraw,+d3d7"
The game installs fine at first, but wants to install DirectX 8.1 also.
Starting the application after that shows up a menu. This menu does NOT allow
the actual game playing, but only offers an option to install DirectX 8.1.
Conclusion might be that the game cannot detect a DirectX Version 8.1. See
log.

trace output with +relay
In Grand Theft Auto (the original, and best version), running "GRAND THEFT
AUTO.EXE" the game hangs without starting.
Attached a ~relay trace.
Any more appropriate traces?

The console output
This was possibly a regression according to someone in #winehq, and his guess
was that it would be since version 1.3.22.
I could only test 1.3.20 and 1.3.25 myself.
The game Tomb Raider II works in Wine 1.3.20, but not anymore in 1.3.25. In
1.3.25, the screen goes black when starting the game (as usual), but then it
goes back to the linux desktop and displays an error dialog saying that the
application quit unexpectedly. Normally, it starts playing a movie at that
point. Wine's output in the terminal is pasted below and attached as text file.
The error about surface.c and ddraw_surface_vtbl are the error I think.
Everything else is also output by 1.3.20 where it works.

Kubuntu 8.04.1 x64, Wine 1.1.5 (latest available).
Release 1.1.4 and above have some changes in DirectX which lead to crash when
trying to play Heroes of Might and Magic IV. Before these changes this game
basically worked but there were some issues with full screen and window menu.
Now however there is just crash instead. Attempted to roll back to 1.0 - then
HMMIV works again.
Backtrace attached.
