Numerous FixMes and some Errs...
Well, I finally got it installed using winetrick's dontnet20 and wmp9 as
suggested on my previous bug report for not being able to install it.
It only works on Windows Vista and above compatibility modes, so the log
attached was using Windows 7 which seems best.
I'm not sure where to start on this bug report.
Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9.0b Platinum has several serious issues, all of which
we should be able to be determined from the short log attached.
I'll list them below:
* No plug-ins were found. (This includes the Media Generator, Transitions, and
Video FX tabs making them totally unusable) This effects the majority of the
application and the "Video Event FX..." window, making the program somewhat
useless.
* The Audio "Track FX..." and "Apply Non-Real Time Event FX..." windows are
both totally unusable since nothing can be clicked in them. The audio plugins
there are at least detected, just borked.
* Video Preview Window doesn't show anything, and occasionally flickers a
different color only when rendering. Terminal cycles a never ending
"fixme:msvideo:DrawDibDraw" bug when attempting to play the movie. This also
effects the "Video Event Pan/Crop..." window, making it nearly impossible to do
animation effects since determining your current location in the window is
simply a black screen.
* All icons have a black rectangle around them (trivial and probably just a
simple alpha transparency bug)
Note: Keyword download can be added since Sony Vegas Movie Studio has a free
trial. I made this log using the retail version, but it's using the same exe as
the one on the softpedia link provided.

When running Grand Prix Legends 1.2.0.1 I randomly get a freeze of the game.
Most of the times this happens when I wait for the last seconds to run out
after a qualifying session of when I let the Options screen open. As for the
error I am getting, they are always the same
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection errors within section 0x94d100 and
0x94d1e0 (see attachement for the full error log).
I am trying to reproduce this error consitently, but I did manage to get that

The game was installed into a clean wineprefix but it installed DirectX

Note: I could not find a component "winemenubilder" …
[View More]which is why I selected
"-unknown".
It would be great to have a way to tell wine not to create a whole bunch of
files across the .config and .local directories. I don't want any mime-type
which is registered by a windows application run through wine to reflect on my
system - if I really want to use wine to open a certain filetype (which never
happened so far) I will do that manually. Nor do I want all the unnecessary
start menu entries to be added to my KDE menu - they end up in the wrong
category anyway. I like to have the control of creating these entries myself.
For the menu it worked fine to simply remove the "Wine" menu directory with the
menu editor. The annoying files still got created, but they were ignored.
However now wine started to spam my mime directory, too, and it constantly
re-creates the files in there - a really annoying behaviour. This not only
leads to the danger of me accidentally starting wine without wanting to do so,
it also drives some applications crazy (for example the KDE screenshot
application no longer recognizes ".jpg" to be a JPEG extension since wine added
.jfif).
I understand that many people want wine to just magically integrate into their
Linux environment, but there are also people like me who switched to Linux
because they like to have control, and Windows often prefers its own
preferences over the user's. Wine should really not bring that to Linux, or it
will get as annoying as Windows is. If I could not patch wine myself to no
longer create these files, I had no way to stop all these mime types from being
added, no configuration panel to remove them, nothing. I do not even know which
of my many WINEPREFIXes created the files.

How it looks in Wine
The main character and the dragon in the DragonRiders game appear completely
black except for their eyes, as if they had no texture applied (check the
attached screenshots). From a bird's view of the village at the beginning, it
looks like the sky suffers from the same problem. I couldn't verify whether
this applies to other characters in the game as well or not, since I only
played for a few minutes.
The same bug happens in Cedega as well.
I can only guess it's some kind of chroma key problem (as the one in Ultima
IX), but the game cannot be configured with respect to that. The only hint is a
debug error that floods the console (check attached log):
err:d3d_surface:IWineD3DBaseSurfaceImpl_BltFast DXTC decompression not
supported by now
but I don't know if it might be related. There's also a message concerning an
unsupported Stippled Alpha feature.

b) declare this to be not a problem because the distro is supposed to patch

c) temporarily mark the FIXMEs that cause the performance problem to be

or d) something else?

When starting BiuTicker a list of stock chart properties is displayed.
In this list the text is displayed too deep. Only the top most scan line of
each character is visible, the rest is clipped away. See attachments.
My current error analysis:
Within DrawTextExW:
y-coordinates are negative
viewport coordinates are positive.
DT_NOCLIP is 0 (clipping active)
DT_SINGLELINE is 1
DT_VCENTER is 1 (Center text vertically)
According to these flags the y coordinate (of the bottom line) is calculated.
When calling ExtTextOutW the text alignment within the used DC is TA_TOP which
results in using the y coordinate as top line (instead of bottom line).
Forcing alignment to TA_BOTTOM before calling ExtTextOutW would display the
text right but has side effects on other DrawTextExW calls.

to get it working:
quote from http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2007-October/059550.html:
----
First, since the GL window is the
top-level window, it draws to it directly so it doesn't get clipped. Second,
CreateWindow for the GL window is missing the WS_CLIPCHILDREN flag. If I
force offscreen rendering and add the flag, the demo works.

I am not sure how to force offscreen rendering. I tried to set
"Software/Wine/Direct3D/OffscreenRenderingMode" to "fbo" and added the flag to
the window but it did not work.

terminal output (without any dll overrides)
After starting The Bard's Tale (published in 2005 by inXile Entertainment) the
screen in the menus is way too dark, so you can see almost nothing, unless you
turn up the gamma of the screen. The animated hero is also missing on the left
side of the screen, when you choose to generate a new character.
The biggest problem that makes the game unplayable is when you start a new
game, almost the whole screen is black, only the mini-map is shown in the
upper-right corner, and the health bar in the upper-left corner. Besides only
subtitles are shown. Majority of the screen is pure black.
This bug affects at least the Steam version of the game, but according to AppDB
the retail (DVD version) is also affected:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4041
I tried out several Wine versions but all of them showed the same issue,
including 1.1.0 which received Gold rating on AppDB.
However, the demo version of the game has no such issues: it displays
everything correctly, from the menus to the actual gameplay.
The only difference between the terminal output of the demo (working one) and
the retail version is the following line (repeated several times) when playing
the retail version:
'fixme:d3d:buffer_PreLoad Too many full buffer conversions, stopping

a crash. The +seh,+relay,+ntdll log is:

Problems to display status bar correctly.
After bug 9917 got fixed, the NES emulator Nestopia
(http://nestopia.sourceforge.net), D3D9 application, correctly shows the top
menu. Horever, the behavior of the status bar is still not right, disappearing
or partially displayed sometimes (eg: when switching from File to Machine
menu).
If I alternate between windows and the Nestopia window stay behind other apps,
then when I switch back to Nestopia the status bar reappears. If I minimize
Nestopia window, then restore it to its previous size, the entire window
doesn't redraw itself anymore and the menu becomes inaccessible, but I'm able
to close the app normally.
Roderick Colenbrander said at comment 8 of bug 9917: "Alexandre said that most
of the time the status bar is a child window, so it isn't this bug. Personally
I think it is likely some d3d child window bug".
So, I'm reporting this bug against component directx-d3d. I am really not
worried about this app in particular, but about other apps that may suffer
these issues.

Summary: The Alien Nations / Die Völker crashes: amstream
GetFormat stub
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.17
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: quartz
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hoehle(a)users.sourceforge.net
I'd rather split the bug entries for "Die Vö…
[View More]lker / The Alien Nations" and
Motocross Madness 2, bug 17836, comment 3, to warrant each application its own.
Although the common cause is stubbed functionality in amstream, these apps
might be fixed independently.
At start, The Alien Nations tries to display two Intel Indeo videos, somewhat
differently. Unimplemented functionality in amstream and the app's not checking
for some return codes yields to an exception and crash. More specifically,
GetFormat() is expected to fill in a DDSURFACEDESC structure, which wine leaves
uninitialised, causing the application to use random uninitialised data.
The first crash is prevented by having GetFormat() in
dlls/amstream/mediastream.c fill in the dwWidth and dwHeight fields of the
DDSURFACEDESC structure (I used 1 as stub value). The code used seems similar
to that of
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms787928(VS.85).aspx
except the app doesn't check the return code of GetFormat and hence proceeds
with uninitialised memory from these two fields.
These two values are not enough to avoid a crash when displaying the second
video. As the logs http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=20129 in bug 17836,
comment 4 suggest, the app presumably reads more fields from GetFormat: Z
buffer depth and pixelformat, and passes that to ddraw.
Actually, whether the app crashes there depends on WINEDEBUG settings, as the
initialisation of the stack-based DDSURFACEDESC depends on former stack use.
I've been able to play the game using
WINEDEBUG=+all,-syslevel,-fixup,-dbghelp_dwarf,-heap,warn+heap,-gdi
I yet have to disassemble and see which other fields from DDSURFACEDESC are
used in the second case.
BTW, one needs to work past bug #15915 in order to see this crash in "Alien
Nations", which is a blocker for this issue. I did it by quickly hacking the
fourcc comparison test in iccvid.c.
There exists a demo for this application, but demos typically display no intro
videos, so I doubt it would exhibit this bug.

the windows error displayed when game crashes
The game Klingon honor Guard will crash when it tries to play the ingame
videos. This should be the last bug before the game would be platinum as using
the nocd patch allows one to play through the whole game.
This won't work with the demo as it has none. This bug only affects the retail
version, I'd be happey to send it to anyone if needed.
This doesn't seem to be a cd checking bug as the game askes for the cd one
screen before and it works. Playing multiplayer also requires the cd to be in
the drive and that works just fine.
The 'play' cd simply contains avi videos and can be played in Mplayer.
i did this in win 98 mode as that mode best supports the game.
To reproduce.
Install game.
Apply 1.1 patch.
Start new game.

It happens only in complex locations, where there is a waterfall etc.
COMI works very slow, even on my Core2Duo 2.53 GHZ (which is pretty good for
that game I think).
The strange thing is, when the screen is scrolling (eg. the character moves to
the other part of the scene and the scene is scrolling) it work properly. When
the scene is static (eg. no scrolling, only animated parts like waterfall or
rain etc) it works very bad.
In this demo you can see this when you are shooting with the cannon. A part of
walkthrough (on how to get to the cannon):
After the intro you'll find yourself captive in LeChuck's ship. Start talking
to the small pirate and you'll realize that it's your old friend Wally. Make
him see that he is no good as a pirate and he will soon drop his hook and
start crying. Pick up the plastic hook from the floor and pick up the ramrod
from the wall. Use the cannon and sink the four boats full of skeletons.

So i tried under 1.1.30:
./configure --with-opengl --verbose <--- *** FREEZES ***
./configure --with-opengl --verbose --without-openal <--- **** WORKS ****
I read about other problems in OpenAL, so i upgraded OpenAL to v1.10.622. No
change. Then i tried put slots slots=1 and sends=1 in /etc/openal/alsoft.conf.
No change :-(

Running real Java apps under the latest Sun win32 JRE on Wine
seems like a fine stress test, even though in many
cases users should run with the Linux JRE instead.
The Sun JRE and jEdit install ok, but jedit has many startup problems.
Here's the first one.
Invoking it with the batch file provided by jEdit fails.
Here's what's in the batch file:
start "jEdit startup" "c:\windows\system32\javaw.exe" -Xms64M -Xmx192M -jar
"C:\Program Files\jEdit\jedit.jar" -reuseview %*
And here's what happens when you run it:

Wine HKEY returned corresponds to:

When the SIVDRIVER IRP_MJ_DEVICE_CONTROL dispatch routine is called the
PIO_STACK_LOCATION->FileObject in incalid, in fact it's set of 0x66666666.
This caused the v4.00 SIVDRIVER to crash as it expects to setup
PFILE_OBJECT->FsContext in file create callback and use it while processing
IRP_MJ_DEVICE_CONTROL. For 4.01 I managed to stop the crashes by adding code
to check for 0x66666666. This really needs to be fixed though.

When playing Alien Swarm, one of the in-game fonts usually exhibits some degree
of …
[View More]corruption; by which I mean that characters are either not rendered or only
their bounding box is. The character still takes up space. The degree of damage
varies from start to start, and may vary in a single session. The nature of the

A similar effect has been observed in Dawn of War: Dark Crusade.
I'm using fglrx from ati-drivers 10.4; I also tried 10.7 and it made no
difference.
I tried resetting .wine; no difference.
I tried removing /usr/share/fonts via chroot/symlink hax; no difference.
I screwed with UseFastTLS in xorg.conf; no difference.
I tried wine 1.1 and 07-30-10 git head .. no difference.
I'm quite simply out of ideas.

a description of the page fault plus an annotated backtrace
During program startup, Okad2-xx-pd (xx = version) generates an unhandled page
fault when loading an icon. The page fault is caused by CreateFileW as it
processes the name of the file from the parameter list. The name pointer is
0x00007f8a, which is an address in an unmapped page. This value is also an
index into Windows resources, selecting the hourglass icon.
What has happened is that the application was attempting to load the hourglass
icon and passed in BOTH the Windows resource index and a flag indicating
LOADFROMFILE. Wine attempted to load-from-file and looked for the file name
through the "name" parameter (0x00007f8a) generating the page fault. Native
Windows appears to give the value of the "name" pointer precedence and
determines that the "name" parameter is actually a resource number; hence it
does not page fault and runs Okad2 normally.
Wine *DOES* check the "name" parameter to see if it is a resource index, but
several subroutine calls later it forgets this fact and branches based on the
LOADFROMFILE bit. The backtrace has been annotated to provide both a
description and source lines involved in the decision.
This behavior was found in the latest version of Wine for Debian (.1.42) and in
a MacOS X version.
