Commit eb4ee4f4ada6d02aeb26b0e12964b208ecc68b52 patches
dlls/wined3d/surface_base.c
This causes a regression exhibited in the game "Prince of Persia 3D" as well as
the demo.
During the game, icons are displayed at the bottom of the screen indicating
health/weapon/etc. After the commit, the icons are surrounded by squares.
In virtual desktop mode only (not full screen mode), this commit does fix the
menus which flash/strobe what appears to be the previous contents of the
screen.
To recreate:
Download the demo, prince_of_persia_demo.zip, from one of the following URLs:
(the original site, pop3d.com, is gone. (now a link farm))
http://www.digit.pl/ftp/gry_297/Prince.of.Persia.3D..htmlhttp://www.idg.pl/ftp/gry_297/Prince.of.Persia.3D..html
Unzip, run the .exe and install.
Run c:/Program Files/Red Orb/Prince of Persia 3D De
mo/PoP3DDemo.exe
Choose "New Game"
Look at the vial icons in the lower left or the sword icon in the lower right.

Log of crash
I upgraded from Wine 1.3.4 to Wine 1.3.5 recently, and when I tried to play
Guilty Gear X2 #Reload, it crashed when it tried to play the intro movies.
Before, it would just fail to play them and skip them.
This can be worked around by checking "Movie off" in the config, and it won't
try to play any movies at all.

Summary: Warcraft 3 disproportionately slow in d3d mode unless
RenderTargetLockMode=disabled
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.33

Severity: minor

ReportedBy: Simon80(a)gmail.com
Under default settings, Warcraft 3 runs very slowly on my system, whose
hardware is more than capable of of running it without framerate issues. When
run in OpenGL mode, the game runs smoothly without exception (60fps), but there
are probems with the rendering. In Direct3D mode, it renders correctly, but the
framerate is very low, under 15 fps. In the search for a playable
configuration, I discovered that setting
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D:RenderTargetLockMode to disabled
results in much better framerates, around 30 fps. This isn't as good as the
OpenGL mode, but is still playable, and I didn't notice any rendering problems.
I tried some of the other possibilities (textex, readtex, texread, I think),
and the performance was just as slow.
I also discovered just now that Warcraft 3 has a registry setting,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Warcraft III\Video:lockfb,
which acts similarly (defaults to on, and when set to 0, performance becomes
acceptable). If neither of those two values are disabled, then performance is
disproportionately slow on this hardware.
I can grab debug output on request.

A user asked for help with unreal media server in

The service installs ok, and starts up when you run any windows app
(you can see via netstat -tlp that it's listening on port 5119),
but crashes when a client connects. You can reproduce the crash
either with a real access, e.g.
mplayer mms://localhost:5119/mediaroot/test.avi
as suggested by http://www.umediaserver.net/umediaserver/faq.html
or with
telnet localhost 5119
+relay,+seh on the service an seh event very soon after accept,
but there's a crash handler, so you can't see a backtrace.
I don't know how to use winedbg on a service -- the obvious
approach of using winedbg on the random command that starts
the service didn't seem to give a backtrace.

In current git (after wine-1.1.43) the mouse cursor is not shown correctly
while playing Prey. Prior to the regression, while the game was loading the
cursor was changed to an hour glass. When the menu screen came up, the cursor
was changed to a game specific cursor. While playing the game the mouse cursor
was hidden hidden altogether.
With the regression in place, the mouse cursor does not change to an hour glass
while loading (it retains the one that matches my KDE theme). At the menu
screen, two mouse cursors are shown. One is the game provided cursor which
moves around the screen as you'd expect and the other is the one from KDE which
moves slightly but snaps back to the center when you move the mouse. When
playing the game, the same cursor remains on the screen and is not hidden.

This is a regression in the wine v1.1.31 (in v1.1.30 was ok): some (!) icons
inside the menu are showed dark close to black.
This is a regression. Unfortunately I cannot do a regression test. (I know how
to do it, because I did it for The Bat! more than twice in the past). wine
crash after compilation and I didn't reach the section of the bisection with
the wrong patch. So I installed wine v1.1.30 from archive, whre The Bat! was
working and than wine v1.1.31, where The Bat! show this behaviour. (And yes: I
use always an new ~/.wine).
Sorry for this late report: this bug is shown since the version v1.1.31 up to

I'm using a Ati video card (Radeon HD 4650) with Catalyst 9.8, Xserver 1.6.3,
Arch Linux (same problem in Ubuntu 9.04).

I tried to install Office 2003 in RC1, OpenSUSE 10.3, with a clean wineprefix,
and it failed early on with the message "Installation ended prematurely because
of an error." My console log is attached.
I believe this is related to bug 12928, which has been closed as fixed. I ran a
regression test and it pointed to the same patch reported for that bug:

This is on openSUSE 10.3, Wine 1.1.1. My version of Office 2003 Pro is provided
by my employer under their academic volume license; it does not require
entering a registration key as part of the install. I do not believe this is
the same bug as 13960, as the error message is different and it occurs at a
different point in the install process.
In 1.1.1, the installer now exits after choosing the type of install (Typical,
Custom), but before copying any files, with a popup message box that says
"Installation ended prematurely because of an error." The console output and
the error log created by the installer both mention error code 1627.
A regression test shows the patch responsible as:

Adding sh winetricks fakeie6 does not allow the program to install. The same

I have been asked to run a regression test, which I will do using the following
parameters.
good wine-1.1.6-314-g36d0140

I hope to do that tomorrow, and post the results.
I have also been asked to check a patch:

On the initial mode selection screen, the cursor sometimes disappears when
hovering over one of the options; at other times, it shows the default arrow
cursor. By moving the cursor up and down through different modes, you can see
it alternate between default/invisible at random. Neither behavior matches
Windows; it uses a 'pointer' cursor when hovering over a mode. This used to
work correctly, so I tried to do a regression test, but I ended up with:
There are only 'skip'ped commit left to test.
The first bad commit could be any of:

We cannot bisect more!
Any of these builds resulted in the program terminating with an X error. This
cursor problem still happens in git, so I guess it's different from bug 22463
(marked fixed).
It might be worth noting that although none of these commits changed it, using
native oleaut32 works around the problem. Maybe this output that appears when
hovering over one of the mode options is relevant:
fixme:ole:OleIconToCursor (0x400000,0x100b0), partially implemented.
I'll leave component set to unknown for now.

The installer works here with 1.1.36, but fails with 1.1.39 and 1.2rc3.
The symptoms vary, but one is a crash with an invalid write to 0xfdfdfd09
while extracting "PSDK-PSDK-common.0[0]..cab".
When it works, it creates a windows.h somewhere; when it crashes,
there is no windows.h (nor a lot of other stuff).
Running with +heap,+relay is probably too slow to be practical.
Better to run a bisect, but I don't have time this morning.
I was about to use it, too, so this is a dogfood bug.

Starting with Wine 1.1.43 the graphics in a commercial scientific software is

I'm fairly certain this is the one.
While regression testing, I did encounter an anomaly that showed neither the
"good" outcome, nor the failed message, so I marked that bisect as "good"

Two Tree items are out of order in the tree component on the left side.
The Warcraft 3 World Editor has a module called Unit Editor.
This Editor displays a explorer like tree on the left side.
Sometimes it happens that it got drawn wrongly.
Forcing a redraw helps.
For example the wrongly drawn tree gets overdrawn correctly, if you move the
window out of the screen and back. Resizing the window helps too.

Summary: Morrowind: trying to configure controls results in
freeze (reboot necessary)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.17
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: sick_soul(a)yahoo.it
Steps to reproduce:
* launch Morrowind (wine Morrowind.exe)
* select Options
* select Controls
* left-click any of the controls to change it
* a message appears instructing to 'press any key or button' to associate to
this action
* now press any key or mouse button
* the application freezes.
After the freeze it is impossible to switch to another workspace (ALT+F2,
ALT+F3,.. does not work anymore), and no other key has any effect (not even
CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE, nothing at all). The mouse pointer is also frozen.
The same problem also appears ingame while attacking (left-click), and walking
at the same time, especially backwards ('S' key). After some time the player is
"stuck" walking backwards, and again no input is processed anymore. Eventually
the application freezes and a reboot again is necessary.
Tried the following with no improvement:
tried using native dinput.dll and/or dinput8.dll, quarz.dll (any combination).
tried enabling/disabling DXGrab.
tried emulating a virtual desktop 800x600
tried enabling/disabling window manager decorations/windows control
tried editing Morrowind.ini to disable the DXGrab (Background Keyboard = 1)
Configuration:
PC-x86 Pentium 4, nvidia GeForce 6600, Linux 2.6.27.19, X Server 1.4.0.90,
wine git 3d35a630c4ae65fb4ab3aaf408a09051d5067b4f.
no library overrides,
Direct3D\OffscreenRenderingMode=fbo
Direct3D\VideoMemorySize=256
If you need a WINEDEBUG log, please tell me which channels/grep patterns you
need. Tried a +relay and got an incredibly huge file (even reducing to the last
5 seconds before the freeze yields a huge file).

Terminal output
Clicking one of the items in the menu bar without moving the cursor (so it
remains hovering above the menu bar item, not the menu itself) usually results
in garbage appearing in the status bar. Hovering over a different item in the
menu bar can make this garbage text change (to other garbage). Once in a while,
the status bar will be blank instead (which is the expected behavior).
The 64-bit build of Explorer++ doesn't seem to have this problem. It happens in
the 32-bit build on both WoW64 and plain 32-bit Wine.

Summary: BitBlt between 8 bit color index DIBs wrong

Created an attachment (id=8678)

test case
BitBlt from one 8 bit DIB to another 8 bit DIB produces wrong results. I'll
attach a simple test case that illustrates the problem. What it does: creates
two 8 bit, color index dib sections with a color table where color index 1 =
red, 2 = blue, 3 = green. Then it fills first DIB with 1 (red) and second with
2 (blue). It then does a BitBlt with SRCPAINT (OR) ROP from first DIB to
second. Finally, this DIB is drawn in a window, and a hex value of the first
pixel is drawn over it for convenience.
In such BitBlt Windows, apparently, operates on DIB pixels as color index
values w/o palette lookup; 1 OR 2 == 3, so it fills destination DIB pixels with
3, and, consequently, it is displayed as a green rectangle.
In Wine, this operation works like actual RGB values (red and blue) from
palettes are getting combined, and it's displayed as a magenta rectangle.
Probably, because wine seems to convert it to truecolor pixmaps internally.
Pixels as stored in memory become zeros.
Real app affected by it: igonwin.exe in bug #201
(http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=201). I don't have other apps that use
color index dibs to test, but I think any apps that use such DIBs AND "fancy"
ROPs (XOR, AND, OR etc) may be affected.

Possible fix
Here's a case that can be used to test with:
_mbspbrk("C:\\age\\マブラヴオルタネイティヴ\\Alternative.rio.ici", ";,|*?\"<>{}[]");
None of the Japanese characters are interpreted as multi-byte by
MSVCRT_isleadbyte() so when _mbspbrk reaches 'マ' (0x837D) it matches the '}'
(0x7D) from the match string with the second byte of 'マ'.
Only tested in Japanese locale but probably happens with others. Attached is a
simple fix that fixes the 2 games that I tested.

It is not a problem of mouse warping, the game does not react to mouse
movements at all.
I have tried combination of turning on/off full-screen, virtual desktop, "allow
mouse leaving" and "MouseWarpOverride". Nothing works.
It looks like the mouse action (clicks) specific to some location are not
working (button clicking), but mouse actions not related to some screen area
works - mouse wheel zooming in map screen, select sentence during dialogs....

It would be good to have this running.

Summary: winealsa and PulseAudio
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.51.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: atari(a)gabo.pl
winealsa is unable to work with PulseAudio.
This is my /etc/asound.conf:
pcm.pulse {
type pulse
}
ctl.pulse {
type pulse
}
pcm.!default {
type pulse
}
ctl.!default {
type pulse
}
This is registry entries for Alsa configurations:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Alsa Driver]
"AutoScanCards"="N"
"AutoScanDevices"="N"
"DeviceCount"="1"
"DeviceCTL1"="pulse"
"DevicePCM1"="pulse"
"UseDirectHW"="N"
And I get this error in wine log:
err:alsa:ALSA_CheckSetVolume Could not find 'PCM Playback Volume' element
I tracked it in wine source code to file dlls/winealsa.drv/alsa.c
With following comment:
/* Setup and find an element id that exactly matches the characteristic we want
** FIXME: It is probably short sighted to hard code and fixate on PCM
Playback Volume */
Unfortunetly I know to little about Alsa to fix it.

I was trying to run Link 7000 Plus from Deep Sea Electronics but wine
L7000Plus.exe was just finishing with no messages at all - no errors
whatsoever.
After using PEiD on that file i realised that it's packed with "UPX 0.89.6 -
1.02 / 1.05 - 2.90 -> Markus & Laszlo" so i unpacked it, loaded in my favorite
deisassembler, then i've tried some other versions of wine ( 1.0.1, latest
stable 1.2.2, latest development 1.3.12 ) i've used WINEDEBUG=+relay and then i
realised that whatever i have in that log doesn't really match what my
disassembler was saying to me, and then i realised that file i was running on
wine was still packed, so i copied unpacked file to my linux box and program
just started.

Summary: Bad mask in David Fotland's Many Faces of Go version

Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: grikdog(a)pobox.com
Sorry for newbie post, but this has to come to somebody's attention.
Fotland's Many Faces of Go is a go player/analysis/IGS client tool for Windows
XP or Vista. When you place Go stones on the board in Wine emulation, the mask
is wrong. Stones have a black square behind them.
This was FIXED (almost) in Wine 1.0.1, but in Wine 1.1.26 the issue has
reappeared. Also the round stone shape part of the mask was fixed, but the
color of the stone shadows on the board was white and not gray -- this has not
been fixed in ANY version of Wine.
There may be a prior bug referring to Igowin on this same issue, but I doubt
that is a duplicate. You could ask fotland(a)smart-games.com (the author) if the
bug is a duplicate.

Fire up notepad, type some gibberish, then use "CTRL+A, CTRL+C, CTRL+F". This
brings up the find menu. Now, while still holding CTRL, press CTRL+V. Instead
of pasting, you'll just get 'v'. Let go of CTRL and press CTRL+V. You'll get
your gibberish pasted.
Very annoying, now that I'm using Notepad++ as my regular (dogfood) text
editor.

this could well be a valgrind bug, but I need to understand how

We did probe this visual fox program with versions 1.2 too, and the same error
appears. If we downgrade to 1.1.42 the software run well again.

Default deadspace_f_activation.exe log
While game itself isn't released, if you'd preordered it from EA Store, it's
possible to download installer.
While trying to launch installer, it's launching "activation.exe", that unpacks
itself into C:\users\Temp\mtka_tmp and runs deadspace_f_activation, that
crashes (log attached).
It's almost definite, that SecuROM is somehow involved in process, as there is
a bunch of SecuROM files and dlls request in WINEDEBUG=+warn, and there is
secupacker_launcher.exe, but, probably, crash caused by something else.
It should be runnable before release date, I'm sure, as language files contents
strings of "too early" messages and there is "Release Date Check" procedure.
Before closing, it told me, that "To finish activation process, you must have
Administrative privileges" (or something like that, translated from Russian)
No tweaks and no additional software installed - pure ~/.wine prefix.
Log produced from launching only deadspace_f_activation.exe - otherwise
debugger can't produce backtrace.

I estimated it to around 290k calls for one match using wc. Of these over 95 %
fail like the one above, while a few do find the requested file. This makes the
match take several minutes to load in wine. I don't have any windows machine
but I assume it's much much faster there.
Something should be done to speed this up. I was thinking maybe a cache, but
ofc it's difficult to cache when the file system might change under your feet.
Ideas appreciated.

My OS is ubuntu 10.04. With wine rc2 nfs most wanted+patch 1.3+crack wouldn't
start, but when i tested rc7 it worked almost perfect except a control bug:
it's as if the "left arrow" is pressed. It keeps turning left, even after i
changed the controls. The same problem is with gta vice city and gta san
andreas, except it's the "down arrow".

Here's what happens when you launch c:\zdbench\ws32\ui.exe:
it puts up its window, says "examining the execution environment"
(although you can't see it, since the window is too big, and
falls off the bottom), and hangs.
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7b922ee0 "syslevel.c:

It hangs just like this on XP, too. But what the heck, if
we could get it to not hang on wine, that'd be nice.

Summary: Battle for middle earth2: No network multiplayer
possible
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.11
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P4
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mcflow-forum(a)gmx.net
Multiplayer games with Battle for Middle Earth2 in wine are not possible.
According to the information on the game package it uses TCP/IP for network
multiplayer. I already tried using the native dplay dlls like it is stated in
the wiki, LAN still does not work.
It happens like this:
I enter the network mode and the game displays myself two times in the players
list. The other player sees me in the list only one time, as it should be. I
can read what he writes and vice versa. If I write something I can see it two
times in the chat. For the other user it appears only one time.
Now, if I open a game, the other player can see it in the game list. If he
wants to join he gets a "Connection Timout" error. Same happens if the other
player opens a game and I want to join it.
I searched the Bugzilla for quite a time now because I do not want to open a
duplicate bug. I found a few things that first sounded interesting but when I
tested them nothing changed. I found a note at the AppDB page of Garena 3.0
(http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=14147&iTesting…)
Patching with the patch that is linked there did not solve the problem with
wine-1.1.11(well one of the hunks failed but it compiled) In Bug 9787 there
also was a patch for the AcceptEX for wine-1.1.6. It did not work with
wine-1.1.6.
It said that wine does not include AcceptEX. I'm not sure if "The battle for
middle earth" requires it. I did not find anything about it on the net except
that it uses tcp/ip.

Not sure how to describe this exactly...but the Respondus Lockdown Browser is
meant to be used by universities to make sure that students don't use other
programs when taking quizzes/exams/etc. As a result, it does some really funky
stuff...While writing an appinstall test for it, found a few interesting
things. First up, on windows, the IfWinExist
(http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/commands/IfWinExist.htm) function fails for
this window (never seen that happen for any other app). On wine, however, we
detect it just fine.

Klick & Play crash log
When I start up Klick & Play, it complains that there isn't enough memory.
This is most likely related to the following log message that I get at about
the same time:
err:dc:CreateDCW no driver found for L"DIB"
Since the program gives me the option to retry, I get the same error almost
each time.
I am using a virtual desktop if that helps any.
When I click on "Create a game" it just up and crashes (crash log attached).
