The following worked for me:
- Start with a fresh wine prefix
- Run 'winetricks dsound directmusic'
- Copy native msdmo.dll and dsdmo.dll to system32
- Run 'wine regsvr32 dsdmo.dll'
- Copy native msadp32.acm to system32
- Run 'wine regsvr32 quartz.dll'
- Add overrides for msdmo, dsdmo and msadp32.acm
- Install the game & apply patches

> Could someone please confirm if this is fixed or not?
No. Our PCs just got faster. This is a deeper problem with async DirectDraw API
that is rarely used.
I suggest using my cnc-ddraw as the alternative renderer at the moment for
optimal speed.

Hello Hans Leidekker,
Are you using wine 1.3.37? And i also made a new wine directory when
i install the game. And it is the US version. Can you try again with
a clean wine directory? Could it be you have a Bad cd-rom or a bad drive?
BTW: I'm using Slackware 13.37.
