Several times a second, a large rectangle (usually the same one depending
on the game or screen) flickers to black. This is pretty annoying.
This happens on Braid Demo and Call of Duty 2, but not on Portal: First Slice
or Total War: Napoleon, all tested under Steam.
It does not happen on the non-steam version of Braid Demo

Summary: Multiplayer in Total Annihilation using native

Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.26
Platform: PC

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hughperkins(a)gmail.com
When playing a multiplayer game in Total Annihilation using native directplay
dlls, the program locks up at the end of a game.
This doesn't prevent the game being played, but it would be nice to fix.
Note that this is using the directplay dlls from microsoft, rather than those
that come with wine, following the instructions at
http://wiki.winehq.org/DirectPlayGames.
Bug http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4066 documents that wine does not
implement an appropriate directplay itself for Total Annihilation at this time.
Mostly I'm creating this new bug just to document it for now in the appdb for
total annihilation.
Note that this issue is touched on in the comments for bug
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11130 , but it is not the original bug
that that bug report refers to.

Summary: Virtual desktop window refreshing
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0.0
Platform: Other

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: winex11.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: markk(a)clara.co.uk
Hi,
(Using Ubuntu 8.04, GNOME desktop, Wine 1.0)
This is a question about virtual desktop mode.
When the virtual desktop window is minimised then restored, or brought to the
front after being covered by another window, Wine appears to tell the Windows
applications to refresh their windows. (At least, on my old slow system I
notice buttons etc. being redrawn - restoring the virtual desktop window is not
instantaneous.) Is that correct? Surely it would be better for compatibility
and speed if Wine caches the whole virtual desktop bitmap when the window is
not visible, so it can be instantly displayed when the virtual desktop window
is restored/revealed. Could some Windows programs assume that if they are the
only window on the desktop, that they don't need to refresh their window
imagery?

Summary: Can't get keyboard focus back to wine after switching

Aloha,
when running an application via wine in full-screen mode, after switching to
another virtual desktop and back, the keyboard focus is lost, and I can't get
it back to wine. Mouse works fine, though.
The typed characters appear in the terminal where I started wine instead.
Environment:
- OS: Debian squeeze, i686, 32-bit
- Window manager: Enlightenment E16, v1.0.0-4, with 3x3 virtual desktops
Regression testing (as per http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting) points to
this as the culprit:

Testing was done via:
- git bisect good 1.1.27
- git bisect bad 1.3.32
and then for each good/bad:
- rm ~/.wine
- ./configure && make
- run './loader/wine programs/winecfg/winecfg.exe.so'
- skip Gecko install if asked
- set "emulate virtual desktop" "2048x1152" (my native resolution), apply&OK
- re-run './loader/wine programs/winecfg/winecfg.exe.so'
- type couple characters in the "Libraries" tab
- switch to another virtual desktop and back
- try typing a couple chars into winecfg
First noted when running World of Warcraft, affects all full-screen apps,
regardless of "emulate virtual desktop", though.
NOT a duplicate of 20939, as the workaround with focus-follows-mouse has no
longer any effect. As long as wine doesn't run in full-screen mode, everything
works as expected.
Kind regards,
Robert Waldner

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ailin.nemui(a)gmail.com
I have a joystick calibrated with the "polarity" of the axis switched (e.g. up
is down + down is up). To do this, in the js calibration utility jscal simply
put the position to the apparent "maximum" number when it asks for the minimum
and vice versa.
this setup works fine in linux games and e.g. "Joystick
Tester":http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Joystick-Tester.shtml
(which is apparently not using dinput)
but in the game (Morrowind), the calibration is ignored. up should be down and
down should be up, but it is not (I guess it is looking at the numbers that I
get shown in "jscal")
If it can't be fixed, maybe a hack in the Joystick-Axes-Dinput-Registry key
could be made to allow mirroring of axes :/?

Bug #: 28901
Summary: Slower than expected performance in Jedi Academy
Multiplayer (AMD Radeon card)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.31
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: newfie.bugreporting(a)gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
I'm assuming this could be related to my graphics card.
Short specs:
8 GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6450 512mb Graphics
AMD Phenom II x6 2.9 ghz CPU
Any version of Wine
--
I'm getting much lower performance than expected on Jedi Academy on this
particular system. I'm using the official catalyst drivers on Ubuntu 11.04, and
native games run fine (Urban Terror at a constant 130 FPS). But on Jedi
Academy, there's a slight "jitter" in the graphics and the in-game FPS meter
jumps between 80 and 110 a lot. When there are more than 3 players on a server
the performance impact is much more noticeable. Even though the FPS shows a
good rate, the game doesn't feel smooth. Some maps feel much worse than others.
On my Windows 7 partition, I get a very smooth experience with a constant 300
FPS ingame. Not a single hitch.
An old laptop of mine runs the game with lower FPS, but with flawless gameplay.
With an integrated, entry level, Nvidia graphics card on the laptop I get a
consistent 100 FPS in Wine and everything performs exactly as it would in
Windows.
I am sure this issue is most likely related to the AMD graphics card. Still, it
would be great if this issue were addressed because a game that normally runs
flawlessly in Wine just runs sub-optimally.

Console Log of Installation
Hello, I am trying to install Rosetta Stone Manager Version 3 Server and, I am
getting an error after the process. The message says, "The wizard was
interrupted before Rosetta Stone Manager Version 3 Server could be completely
installed." I do not know why this might be, however I have a log and I am a
developer so I can help provide more information if requested.

Summary: GetModuleFileNameW behaves unexpectedly when
applications use a hardcoded hmodule=0x10000000
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: kernel32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: rswarbrick(a)gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=35079)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=35079)
Log file as described in the report
SUMMARY:
========
Some code stupidly assumes that the hModule parameter describing the current
exe is always 0x10000000. On my system, at least, this isn't true. The software
then fails to work properly when it calls GetModuleFileName.
WHAT I FOUND / TO REPRODUCE:
============================
I'm trying to get the Onzo energy meter software [1] working and was confused
by messages like:
12:55:57: Debug: src/helpers.cpp(140): 'CreateActCtx' failed with error
0x0000007b (no more data available).
appearing on the stderr. It turns out that this is a wxPython message from a
failing call to CreateActCtx. The Onzo software is closed-source, but the code
in helpers.cpp that's calling CreateActCtx is probably what you get from
downloading something at [2]. In particular, it might well be the following:
static ULONG_PTR wxPySetActivationContext()
{
OSVERSIONINFO info;
wxZeroMemory(info);
info.dwOSVersionInfoSize = sizeof(OSVERSIONINFO);
GetVersionEx(&info);
if (info.dwMajorVersion < 5)
return 0;
ULONG_PTR cookie = 0;
HANDLE h;
ACTCTX actctx;
TCHAR modulename[MAX_PATH];
GetModuleFileName(wxGetInstance(), modulename, MAX_PATH);
wxZeroMemory(actctx);
actctx.cbSize = sizeof(actctx);
actctx.lpSource = modulename;
actctx.lpResourceName = MAKEINTRESOURCE(2);
actctx.hModule = wxGetInstance();
actctx.dwFlags = ACTCTX_FLAG_HMODULE_VALID |
ACTCTX_FLAG_RESOURCE_NAME_VALID;
h = CreateActCtx(&actctx);
if (h == INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) {
wxLogLastError(wxT("CreateActCtx"));
return 0;
}
if (! ActivateActCtx(h, &cookie))
wxLogLastError(wxT("ActivateActCtx"));
return cookie;
}
After staring at debug logs for a bit, I realised that GetModuleFileName was
storing "" into modulename and returning 0. Note the bullet-proof code in
wxPython checking whether this happens...
Anyway, I then instrumented GetModuleFileName to find out what was going on (in
a rather low-tech way) adding a line
fprintf (stderr, "hmodule = %p; lpFN = %p; size = %d\n",
hModule, lpFileName, size);
near the start of the function and, once I'd realised that it was
LdrFindEntryForAddress that failed, also printing out a line of the form
fprintf (stderr, "nts = %x\n", nts);
just after it was called. The resulting debug log included lines looking like
this:
hmodule = 0x10000000; lpFN = 0x32daa0; size = 260
and it seems that wxGetInstance() is stupidly returning 0x10000000, which I
recognise from my 1990's Windows-using days and think is what you always used
to get, so maybe it's hardcoded somewhere. This is presumably either in
wxPython or in Onzo's code (the wxGetInstance() basically just returns the
value of a global variable that can be changed by wxSetInstance(), I think).
I'm going to attach a log that I created using this slightly-instrumented wine
build with the command
WINEDEBUG=+actctx,+file,+module /opt/wine/bin/wine onzo_uploader.exe 2>~/LOG
The lines I'm talking about are just above line 13630. The extra "Address
ranges searched" lines come from slightly instrumenting LdrFindEntryForAddress:
NTSTATUS WINAPI LdrFindEntryForAddress(const void* addr, PLDR_MODULE* pmod)
{
PLIST_ENTRY mark, entry;
PLDR_MODULE mod;
fprintf (stderr, "Address ranges searched:\n");
mark = &NtCurrentTeb()->Peb->LdrData->InMemoryOrderModuleList;
for (entry = mark->Flink; entry != mark; entry = entry->Flink)
{
mod = CONTAINING_RECORD(entry, LDR_MODULE, InMemoryOrderModuleList);
fprintf (stderr, " %p -> %p\n",
mod->BaseAddress,
mod->BaseAddress + mod->SizeOfImage);
...}}
which I did to check my guess was right about the base address being nonsense.
IDEAS FOR FIXING
================
I'm not sure what the correct way to go about fixing this is. I suppose one
thing is to check that this really is due to Onzo/wxPython doing something
stupid rather than Wine telling their software an incorrect base address
somewhere else. I'm not quite sure how to go about doing that.
If it is just a hard-coding that actually works on Windows (I presume that
Windows's ASLR doesn't mess it up?), maybe LdrFindEntryForAddress needs to
hardcode its answer for 0x10000000? But that's really really horrible...
Ideas??

Switching out of the game window and back will reset the condition - it works

Patch to send mouse button events to the X server
winex11.drv uses XWarpPointer to send mouse movements to the X server. Mouse
button events are not sent. If a pointing device device communicates directly
with a windows app running in wine, the user will be able to move the mouse
pointer, but button presses will only work on windows controlled by wine.
The attached patch adds calls to send mouse button events generated by a
windows application to the X server. The way this is done is similar to the way
it is done in the Synergy client - by using XTestFakeButtonEvent
(see http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/).
Requires libXtst.
This bug might also resolve bug 7032.

Currently, winepath -w (seems to) only search for symlinks in
$WINEPREFIX/dosdevices to map a given native path to a windows one. But it
should also look for user folder's symlinks (like Desktop, My Music, My
Pyctures, etc)
This is specially helpful if a given prefix has removed the "catch all" Z: => /
mapping. In that case, winepath is mapping my "~/Desktop" to "\\?\unix\...",
but it could be "smarter" and map it to "C:\users\rodrigo\Desktop" instead.
Last but not least, a related limitation is the lack of winepath -u to
understand windows env variables, like %USERPROFILE%. That usually points to
C:\users\$USER , but since that can be changed in registry, a "windows
enviroment-aware winepath -u" would be truly useful.

Champions online requires IE to launch/patch their game. When attempting to

attempting to launch the game using a multilib install on a 64bit system, it
fails almost straight off.
Using WINEARCH=win32 or win64 makes no difference.
Using WINEDEBUG=+relay allows for the game to launch correct, thus indicating
to me that there is probably a thread timing issue since the relay messages
require a large time investment and the launcher takes much longer to run.

MCICDA loops across all drives looking for one matching
(GetDriveTypeW(root) == DRIVE_CDROM)
but finds none on MacOS even when an audio CD-ROM is inserted.
Oddly, winecfg correctly displays "Audio CD" for e.g. drive D: in
auto-detection mode. However it is not until I force D: to type CD-ROM in
winecfg that GetDriveType() returns the expected type, granting access to
MCICDA.
Furthermore, I must hit "Apply" in winecfg and leave its window open for this
trick to work. Presumably otherwise the list is dynamically rebuilt by the
volume manager upon the next process start and the setting overwritten.
I believe this is sufficiently different from bug #20555 (A. pure audio vs.
mixed data+audio CD-ROM; B. /media/cdrom vs. cdrom0) on Linux to warrant its
own entry.
Reproduce using my MCI shell (bug #20232, comment #10)
wine wintest.exe mcishell
open cdaudio
will yield MCIERR_CANNOT_LOAD_DRIVER if there's no drive type match.
Leave the shell open, apply configuration change in winecfg, then it succeeds.
close cdaudio

E.g.: Carmageddon TDR 2000 requests an US keyboard layout no matter for which
language version of the game. It also gets this for most keys.
But for the cheating console the VK_OEM_3 (0xC0) is needed and
MapVirtualKeyExW() in dlls/user32/input.c has to return 0xC0, too.
But instead it returns 0x5E (^) on my German KDE4 openSUSE 11.3 amd64 system -
so this key isn't converted to US keyboard layout.
On my German Windows XP it works as expected (0xC0 is returned).
I've also tried to enable the KDE4 keyboard layouts and to switch to US layout
with that, but this didn't help.
Here is my dirty fix with which I've tested it:
UINT WINAPI MapVirtualKeyExW(UINT code, UINT maptype, HKL hkl)
{
TRACE_(keyboard)("(%X, %d, %p)\n", code, maptype, hkl);
/* dirty fix for testing VK_OEM_3 */
if (code == 0xC0)
return 0xC0;
return USER_Driver->pMapVirtualKeyEx(code, maptype, hkl);

have two printers that are connected to a CUPS server (1.4.3) which is separate
from our clients. The CUPS client libraries and the CUPS server have the same
version and are package from Ubuntu 10.04.
One printer is a HP LaserJet P4015. When printing from any Wine application on
this printer, the page borders are wrong.
We are using DinA4 paper. When setting the printer dialog in Wine to "A4" parts
of the page are outside the printable range. When setting it to "letter"
everything is inside the printable range, but then we have a huge white border
around the page.
Using our second printer or when printing to PDF, this problem does not appear.
For me it looks like that Wine somehow uses wrong page borders when
communicating with this printer.

This is a bit of a major that I'm unsure whether is a bug with RTG Bills or
WINE... But, here's a workaround/fix for it below.
My local is New Zealand, my default language is LANG="en_NZ.UTF-8" with dates
expressed "days / months / years" (like most of the world).
Setting the dates in RTG Bills to my format results in any dates in the form
"days / months / years" that make sense expressed as "months / days / years"
being expressed as "months / days / years". For instance: 10th March 2009
(10/3/09) is expressed on bills as 3rd October 2009 (3/10/09)!!!
A workaround/fix seems to be to set the environment variable $LANG to
LANG="en_US.UTF-8" and then set the date format in RTG Bills to be expressed as
"days / months / years". RTG Bills provides a "test" facility to check that
date formats are sane for the system local settings, if this facility is used
it will report that the format is "insane" and change it back to the "months /
days / years" format. The answer is not to "test", but simply leave the format
"untested" as "days / months / years" and save the setting. RTG Bills then
seems to report dates correctly in its bills.
So, my command to execute RTG Bills is:
env WINEPREFIX="/home/myhome/.Rtgbills" LANG="en_US.UTF-8" wine
"C:\Program Files\Rtgbills\rtgbills.exe"

Summary: Lan hosting/listening not working in warcraft iii.

I thought warcraft was one game that ran as fluent as if it was native, or so I
thought then. Today I've found myself experimenting for the second time how
running this masterpiece from wine prevents me from enjoying a nice lan game
with my friends, using both macintosh and windows systems.
I don't know why, but I guess that is the reason for which I encounter myself
writing this, at this precise moment: I think you will help me solve this--I
believe, uncommon--problem.
Please let me know which information do I need to post here, because I know not
with accuracy.

Summary: Hydro Thunder: Sound Stops upon settings menu

Now I love Hydro thunder, and when I got it to work through wine with no
workarounds, I was in love with it. It even gives me better rendering than
running it straight through windows. However, there is a problem.
If you pres F2 to enter the settings menu, the sound stops working.
If you press ESC to quit a race or quit the game, the sound stops working.
Sometimes after completing a race, the name entry screen lags to load and the
sound stops working.
The sound doesn't stop working for a second. Oh no. The sound stop working
until you exit the game and relaunch it. This is the only workaround for muted
sound.
I am using integrated motherboard sound. If it makes any difference, the 2
computers I run it on are as follows.
Computer 1: AMD Athlon 2800+ (2.08Ghz); 1Gig DDR Ram; ATI Radeon 7500
Computer 2: Intel Pendium D (3.2Ghz); 1Gig DDR Ram; ATI Radeon X600

Specifically with Diablo2 as with D2BS's loader:
http://www.assembla.com/code/d2bs/subversion/nodes/tags/loader-1.4/D2BSLoad…
The call to WaitForInputIdle locks the thread for way to long.
Changing this call to be Thread.Sleep(10) fixes this application.
