SlingPlayer 2 refuses to install in Windows XP mode claiming that XP SP2 is
required. Setting Vista mode works around this.
This is a recent regression and works fine in Wine 1.5.6.
I cannot currently perform a bisect but will hopefully have the results soon.

winrar works good on wine 1.3 but in 1.4 and 1.5 won't work.
The program installs and opens normally but compressing or decompressing any

I have a question. What causes a "write: Bad file descriptor" error 423? I have
been trying to install AutoCAD R14 with wine-1.3.2-1mdv2008.1.i586.rpm with
this "write: Bad file descriptor" error. I have ran winetricks corefonts tahoma
before trying to install AutoCAD R14. The following text is displayed during

I just tried removing wine-1.3.2-1mdv2008.1.i586.rpm and reinstalled
wine-1.1.32-1mdv2008.1.i586.rpm and tried again to install AutoCAD R14 but the
same "write: Bad file descriptor" error 423 occurred again. I had successfully
installed AutoCAD R14 a few months ago through wine and now I can't seem to do
it.
Any ideas or suggestions to try?

In Warhammer Online the frame will flip upside down for about a second, and
goes back to normal. This bug happens every x frames, or around once a minute.

Within the past several days, I activated my paid for Now You're Cooking
database program version 5.88 in the process of activation, am message came up
to wait a moment while Wine updated. After that neither the 5.88 nor the 5.87
version works. Fortunately, I have backups for my nearly 1/2 million recipes,
but it looks like I will be going back to my Windows Laptop to use this program
rather than on my Linux desktop under Wine. Help?
Oh, what happens now is the program loads but when the screen comes up, nothing
works when you click on it. And sometimes you cannot even see the cursor!

Game is Anno 1503, not yet a patch
- Installation of game ok
- winecfg:mount cd, set audio:alsa ok
- start game ok
- select intro mission ok
Now are several graphical problems and i wanted to end the game again. It was
possible to find the exit icon and push it.
As a result from this i see many patternes, that interfere with each other.
Being a little lucky in that chaos i made it to logout successfully :-).
Logging in again has changed the positions of my desktop plasmoids - more to
the upper left corner. Guess that is due to a different resolution of anno from
my system (1900x1200) - not being resetted.

All screens, from the login screen, through the publisher/developer logs, to
character select, have major flicker. Sometimes, the screen will actually go
black for 2-20 seconds, then come back. Other times it's just slow flicker,
especially when moving the mouse to interact.
Wine 1.1.7 with the "model fix" patch. Ubuntu 8.10. Video card is an HD4870X2
with proprietary ATI drivers.

There are different errors. I will try to report them:
AMD 9750 Quad, ATI HD 4850, OpenSUSE 11.1, KDE4.3
Game is Anno 1503, not yet a patch
- Installation of game ok
- winecfg:mount cd, set audio:alsa ok
- start game ok
- select intro mission ok
Now are several problems
- the ship is mirrored (top is done) - very funny
- A bird drags traces, while flying over the sea
- click into the outline map and then you suddenly see a lot of animals
moving around (in the sea)
- from the traces you will see, that their origin is in islands (green, brown)
- while mouse movements towards the screen border will move the view,
it was not possible to move the ship
All together: the game can't be played

Console error log.
La-Mulana crashes during the boss fight with the boss Tiamat, when she uses her
hair attack (pictured in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTevN1yVk6U
, around 0:45.) It does not occur every time; it seems to happen when her hair
runs into an enemy or the player. The game also becomes slow and slow to
respond during the hair attack. (And the winner for weirdest bug description
goes to...)
The error messages indicate the crash is occuring in the ddraw DLL. A sprite
collision problem, maybe?
I am using some DLL overrides; La-Mulana crashes at startup unless I do so. The
DLLs overridden are dsound,dmime,dmusic,dmloader,dmsynth,dmband,dmfile, and
dmstyle (though La-Mulana does not use all these).

In the game shaiya, if you go under graphical options and turn Water Surface
Effect two things happen:
*The water itself dissappears, so it just looks like grass.
*Some bushes and plants can be seen through other objects, for example, if I
stand behind a wall, I can still see the grass on the other side.
As long as this effect isn't on, those two bugs are no longer present.

Messages from the console when running the game.
The Perfect Cherry Blossom demo seems to have a limited soundtrack compared
with the full version- just sounds and MIDI versions of the first 3 levels.
Under Windows XP, music comes on instantly when you switch from WAV to MIDI
under BGM options. On Linux, there is no music from the demo. You can get the
music to play by having a copy of the full soundtrack, and placing that file in
the game directory.
I'm running Kubuntu 8.04.1.

Launched Left 4 Dead 2. KDE desktop effects were turned on before launching.
Noticed that Left 4 Dead 2 did not display anything during game startup
(neither Valve intro or the game intro or menu) - however, the background music
and sound was being played. Turned off desktop effects and then the game menu
showed up immediately - the game in itself was running fine, only the display
froze.
Turned on desktop effects again, and the game display froze once again. If I
moved my mouse over the menu options, I could hear the sound that indicates the
mouse hovering over an option, but the display did not update (the menu option
over which I was hovering did not turn white). Turned off desktop effects and
the display immediately unfroze.

Results of regression tests for bug 1
This is regression.
1) Game crashes when I click the "New game" menu.
2) Game crashes directly after starting new game.
3) Fonts render incorrectly (quad boxes after end of sentences).
There are regression test results in attachments for every bug.
Reverting the patch 1 helps.
I can't revert patch 2.

The game Beer Tycoon crashes on exit, when the user clicks to quit the game.
I installed Beer Tycoon from the original CD-ROM. Running the installed
Beer_Tycoon.exe in Wine 1.2rc3 shows an error, the same as mentioned in bug
23033. I suspect that error is copy-protection-related, so I downloaded a
no-CD-patched executable from
http://m0002.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_beer_tycoon.shtml
Using that, the game crashes on exit. Run Beer_Tycoon.exe. Click Play when the
window appears. Wait for the logo screens and at the title screen click the
rightmost glass of beer to quit. Wine shows a Program Error dialog box.

have been fixed since, e.g. bug #12766. Here's a new one, with a possibility
that this commit just puts the nail on something that was broken long
before[*].
Since Aric's commit, Motocross Madness Demo 2 shows:
a) the scene pictures as if downsampled to 8 bits instead of 16/32
in both the terrain selection view as well as
the motorcycle selection view in the garage.
b) and an extra horizontal garbage line near the bottom of the screen.
What's been fixed again since Aric's commit, as of wine-1.1.22:
c) the mini-TV pop up animation to select stunt/motocross etc. mode in the
initial menu.

These defaults are visible in wine-1.1.21 both with an Intel Xorg driver in
Ubuntu as well as with an NVidia 9400 chip in MacOS X.
[*] The color artifacts may be explained as follows, considering the earlier
build d4d133f032389f54a45e6c8397a932f0ac47b432
Go to the "single player race event" menu. The scene seems well drawn in 16 or
32 bit depth. However, as the mouse moves to the top 3 tabs, the scene view
darkens and looses colours. It looks very much like it was turned into an 8bit
picture. and exactly like after Aric's patch. Moving the mouse over it restores
the original variety of colours underneath, a "mouse lighting" effect I
described in bug #17234.
So an 8/16 bit depth mismatch could explain the observed change of colours.
Hence it is not the case that the later commit from Aric broke everything. It
just made the situation degrade, by displaying an 8bit-lookalike picture right
from the beginning.
Let's focus on a) and b) here and on the (supposedly) distinct mouse lag issue
in bug #17234. Both the trial and the retail version of MCM2 are affected, but
the demo is downloadable (40MB).

Ingame scene rendering is complelty broken, it just shows a black screen.
Non-ingame menu is partially broken (going to attach screenshots).
Opening the main menu ingame works (it shows), also the character menu. Also
going to do some shots for these.

Today's 3.3.5 patch from blizzard seems to have KO'd WoW on all my systems. As
this is a required patch, this effectively reduces WoW to garbage status
(assuming its not just me).
Immediately after entering login information, a illegal instruction error
occurs. This may be related to the introduction of Blizzard's "RealID" system,
which uses a 'Battle.net.dll' that is known from Starcraft 2 Beta to have
anti-debugging measures in it. The patch that was created for SC2 to work
around this does not work in my case.
I ran a +relay trace and generated a 4G (!!) log file, the last 5000 lines of
which are here:

The illegal instruction occurs at line 2492. I could be mistaken, but it looks
like it is indeed attempting anti-debugging nonsense immediately before the
error. I am recompiling wine on an older GCC version (using Arch linux/AUR
packaging scripts which are basically just ./configure && make) to rule out
those issues, but this could take a while.
Let me know what else I can do to be of assistance

As the bug summary says. They do not require dx11 mode to be fully enabled. I
am able to run "Ultra" water detail and "High" sunshafts on my install of
windows XP 32bit. The dx11 renderer has no visual difference from dx9.
The options menu reports that they are disabled for "Graphics related reasons".

Blizzard's BETA Opt-In (for games such as Diablo 3) fails to accurately send
the results gathered from the system on a 64-bit version.
After some tries (trying newer and older versions), I tried compiling a 32-bit
version, and found that it suddenly worked.
My assumption is thus that 64-bit WINE does no correctly support SSL
transmission, as it is that that Blizzard relies on to send to their site,
because I tested HTTP, and it worked, but HTTPS did not (even for other sites).
The workaround - for now - is to use the 32-bit version if you use a 64-bit
system. This is disappointing, however.

I`m trying to use an older version SpinWorks 2.54 NMR software under Wine in
Linux and everything works OK, except printing. Namely, the values of
under the spectrum are backwards or mirrored (example attached). They should

Sometimes a test cannot be run on a Windows VM for a reason internal to
WineTestBot rather than due to the patch author. This can be due to a
WineTestBot bug or due to an administrator error. For instance:
* A Linux VM that got declared as a Windows one.
* TestAgentd was not started on the VM.
* The VM is not reachable because it has the wrong IP address or some such.
In those cases WineTestBot entirely reports something like this in the log:
* Can't copy exe to VM (Bad IP address)
* Child process died unexpectedly (Linux VM used as a Windows one)
And yet on the summary page it shows 'completed - 0 failures'. Instead the
summary page should either show something like 'completed with errors - 0
failures' or 'completed - 1 failures' so one knows something is wrong.

YouTube Downloader requires the file download dialog that comes with Internet
Explorer, otherwise (with the native shdocvw library in use, since
shdocvw.DoFileDownload() is not yet implemented) clicking the Download button
will result in the app silently failing to move forth.
Installing Internet Explorer supplies the download dialog, which allows YouTube
Downloader to function properly.
I've attached the console output from opening the application, hitting the
download button, and exiting (which results in what seems to be a harmless
crash).

Pull-down menu - incorrectly popped underneath main Steam client GUI
Using Arch (64-bit) + KDE 4.10. Syswow64 Wineprefix. This behaviour was
observed and reported by user Zeb in the comments on the AppDB page for Steam.
As one of the maintainers of the Steam client I chose to investigate further
(since I could replicate the problem he reported).
In the stable release of Wine (1.4.1). The pull-down menu to select between
Tools, All Games, etc. is correctly popped up over the main Steam Client
window.
In the current Git master (as above). This pull-down menu is popped underneath
the Steam Client window. This behaviour is best seen in the Small Mode (View
menu). The menu is popped under the main window and can be seen sticking out
from underneath. I can click on the visible edge of the menu to give it focus.

I performed a Git bisection between Wine 1.4 and the Wine Git master:

The game complained about missing "X3DAudio1_7.dll". I used winetricks to
install directx but it didn't work, I then manually placed that .dll into the
game directory next to the executable in
~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Oovee/Spin Tires/
and the game threw these errors...

After a long pause (that was bug #28743) the game Pathologic is working again,
with a minor graphical glitch though.
When the player turns on the flashlight in the game, strange yellowish
artefacts are flashing across the screen. Those artefacts don't always appear
however: if the player is inside a house and the flashlight is turned on, the
lights are okay.
When the player is standing outdoors those flashing artefacts are usually
present.
It looks as if this depends on what textures/objects are nearby.
Unchecking the graphical option 'detail objects' in the configuration tool
makes this bug disappear (probably because disabling this option removes many
objects as well as textures from the game).
The problem can be reproduced with the demo version as well. The demo version
contains several saved games (both indoors and outdoors).
Steps to reproduce the problem with the demo version:
1. create a new wineprefix and install the demo
2. winetricks wmp9 quartz devenum
3. start the demo with ..bin/Final/Game.exe. On first launch the configuration
tool appears, make sure the option 'detail objects' is enabled.
4. press <Esc> to skip videos, in the menu choose <Load game> and select one of
the available saved games.
5. when the game is loaded press <f> to turn on the flashlight. Move the mouse
to turn around and you should see the visual glitches.

When I report regressions in wine, I usually need (at least I believe I do) to
CC commit author. The most obvious way would be see commit message and put
email from there into CC field. But in reality Bugzilla seems to try to match
this email with some internal list and often fails to find any match, making me
wonder how that author can be CC'ed. I try various changes in the entry field,
including "Firstname Lastname <email(a)host.com>", which fails, "Firstname
Lastname email(a)host.com", which also fails, some others, and finally find out
that I just have to enter "Firstname Lastname" for Bugzilla to match something.
And in this case it appears that email is completely different from that
specified in commit message.
Is it OK? Also, shouldn't one be able to CC anyone to bug, not only those who
are registered in Bugzilla match list?

A mailing list user complained that his full email address was showing up in
posts on the forum. Looking at the thread he linked to, it happened because
someone on the mailing list quoted something from his email in their reply, and
his email address was thus copied into the body of the message, which was
posted in full on the forum. In the same posts on the mailing list archives,
the "@" in all email addresses are changed to "at", even ones in the body of
the message. If possible, something similar should probably be done to incoming
email bound for the forum.

When a test crashes utterly it does not output the summary line. WineTestBot
then shows 'No test summary line found' as the summarized log.
But the Jobs list will still show 'completed - 0 failures' for that job instead

Got bored over winter break, and someone asked on wine-users if wine works on
OpenBSD. Seems it needs quite a bit of work. I've sent a patch for the first

Pywin32-211 cannot be installed - it just eat 100% cpu and never finishes.

Here are the steps how to reproduce it:

$ wget -c http://downloads.sourceforge.net/pywin32/pywin32-211.win32-py2.5.exe
$ wineboot -i
$ msiexec /i python-2.5.2.msi /qb
This initilizes wine instance and installs python into it.
Let's try to install pywin32:
$ wine pywin32-211.win32-py2.5.exe
Oops, it eats 100% cpu and spawns new and new processes (pid of pywin32.exe
changes) and never completes.
On Windows XP pywin32-211.win32-py2.5.exe installs fine.

background of the login screen appears, with no UI elements drawn on top. The

May be a driver bug, but Big Daddies are surrounded by a red fog. This is
separate from bug 24724 (which I don't get on my 9800 GTX). It is similar to
bug 22504, which appears to have reappeared (running regression test now).

Arch Linux x86_64, up to date except for Xorg (using 1.10.4) and Nvidia (using
280.13) packages due to a transparency bug in TF2 I've reported to nvidia
caused by nvidia drivers 285.05. In Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter, at
some point between 1.3.18 and 1.3.32, the game suffers a huge performance drop.
It's odd in that if I play the game after the bad commit, it seems to have
small bursts of working fine and running smoothly then starts lagging out /
chugging along again shortly. With 1.3.18 however, it works fine continuously.
I ran a regression test and found the culprit. The bad commit description
suggests drivers over 270.xx should be fine, but it isn't the case for this
particular game for me. Other games suffer no such problems. Indeed, if I use
the patch remove-GL_ARB_map_buffer_range.patch from
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27600 this bug thread, the game no
longer has the performance issue, as one might expect.

Nvidia's 270.xx.yy driver series fix the glMapBuffer alignment issues that
caused major
performance problems. If the user is using an older driver we now drop the
VBO instead of using
doublebuffered loading, which means that we fall back to the current
behavior(no dynamic VBO) as
needed. Dynamic VBOs are needed on Nvidia drivers for
GL_ARB_instanced_arrays.

2. Install and run Turbo Lister.
3. When asked to open a sample file or create a new file, click cancel.
4. Press F1 for the help window.

Corrupt xml file
If the parser is set to auto indent lines, the \r line breaks are replaced by
"
", resulting in an invalid XML file.
The \n breaks are written fine, though.
I wrote a testcase in delphi, i attached both the testcase and the resulting
XML file.
If I install winetricks msxml3, the problem disappears, and files are written
fine.

Installation of the demo went without issues, but launching the game always
fails.
There is no crash dialog/backtrace. The game quits silently immediately after
starting, leaving only this line in the terminal:

Here I'm attaching a winedbg --gdb backtrace in case it gives some clues.
It seems the game never worked in Wine (tried with 1.2.3, 1.1.35 etc.)
With certain versions (<1.3.27) the game complains that it 'Cannot locate
Controls.cfg' and crashes afterwards. That file exists in the game directory
and it contains configuration options in xml style.

When coming up against Bug 28669 a small dialog opens up with a link to the
help file. The help file loads but then immediately crashes.
Following install with WINEARCH=win32, this can be recreated with:

Wine 1.2-rc2 console output
SlingPlayer 2.x gives a non-specific error when attempting to connect to the
Slingbox.
A new line has appeared in the console output:
wine client error:42: pipe: Too many open files
SlingPlayer's error dialog offers a URL, but clicking on it repeats lines
similar to the above.
This is a recent regression.

Reverting this commit fixes the problem.
To get this far "winetricks -q dotnet20 wme9 gdiplus" required and native
quartz.

2 lines of console output
I got To the Moon from the newest Indie Royale Bundle
http://www.indieroyale.com/ and tried to start it in my regular wine prefix and
after this in a clean wine prefix both times with the same error message.
Failed to load archive.
The console output is attached but I don't think it's very helpful.
I didn't test it with Windows yet but I assume it works.

Fresh install of WINE 1.3.24 (deleted .wine folder) on Ubuntu 11.04 64 bits,
with Spotify 0.5.44 (13 July release)
As soon as the contact list is displayed on Spotify, it crashes (see log
attached).
A workaround is to disconnect any internet connection right after login, hide
the contact list, then turn on the internet. But it will still crash if you try
to show the contact list.

Upon launching Dream Maker (part of the BYOND Suite) through wine, the Wine
Windows Program Loader icon does not come up on the dash, and no window appears
on-screen. This is the case regardless of desktop emulation and window
decoration settings.
For each execution of Dream Maker, a new process for it appears in the System
Monitor. Upon launching the application while opening a .dme file, the file is
considered in use and cannot be opened with another Dream Maker application.
A popup does, however, generate when trying to open a .dme file that has
already been opened. It warns the file is in use by another application. Upon
closing this popup by hitting the X or 'Okay', its process is not terminated,
as Dream Maker would normally stay open without an opened environment.
Other wine applications (such as byond.exe, part of the same suite) open
properly with now issue.

be run in a virtual desktop.

after selecting the phone model.

SlingPlayer 2 can read a password that has been saved using a previous version
of Wine, but is unable to save a new password.

Running Debian unstable without Pulseaudio. Problem is not present in 1.3.29
(so I suspect it has something to do with the DirectSound re-implementation
done in 1.3.30).
I am currently running 1.3.29 without a problem, and have already tried 1.3.31
(issue is still present).
I can make logs from both 1.3.29 (working) and 1.3.31 (has issue). One error
which shows up (repeatedly) only in 1.3.31 is

3. cd /usr/share/wine/fonts, rm tahoma.ttf tahomabd.ttf
4. if only wenquanyi zen hei install in linux, QQ could not disalay any
chinese, only show blank
5. if ttf-arphic-uming is installed but ttf-arphic-ukai not installed , QQ
could not display any chinese too.
6. if ttf-arphic-ukai is installed, QQ can display chinese correctly.
7. if use font replacement to replace tahoma,simsun to wenquanyi zen hei,
QQ2011 can display chinese, but font is breaked.

While trying to fix bug 21394 ("+" in cmd copy's syntax to join two files), I
tried to an example of appending files in MSDN (
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa363778%28VS.85%29.aspx ) and when I
am testing my patch, it did not work, and so I tested the example itself, and
it doesn't work either. Then I reboot to Vista and the example does work there,
so obviously there is a bug with
wine's File operations themselves.
The example, is supposed to just append the content of file "one.txt" to file
"two.txt" every time it is run. When the binary is run on Vista, "two.txt"
increases in size every time "append.exe" is run as it should; but this does
not work under wine cmd.
The binary "append.exe" is created with cross-gcc in linux, simply by
"i686-pc-mingw32-gcc file.c" ; feel free to rebuild from source, which is also
attached in the zip file.

Wine console output for modo 501.
On launching Modo 501 the main interface loads correctly, however the viewport
doesn't load, but shows through to the desktop background. After a few seconds
the following error message is displayed by wine (1.2 and above):
Program Error.
The program modo.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience.
This may be caused by a deficiency in wine....etc.
Modo 501 works to the same degree as 302 (some menus do not work but the
program is still useable) with wine versions 1.0 up until 1.44 (the wine
archives I was using for testing finished at 1.44).

Kingdoms of Amalur fixme, err log
This is possibly related to GLSL bug reported here:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30168.
After applying the patch recommended in the GLSL bug report mentioned above and
upgrading to wine 1.5 dev I noticed a possibly related, severe slowdown of the
game any time more then a few NPCs are in the game with you. When no NPCs are
around the game runs very smoothly and none of the graphical glitches from the
previous bug are visible. I've included a copy of the fixme+all,err+all trace
from the moment of slowdown.
If it matters:
I'm running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50)
graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 4850 with 512 MB.
Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7.

When mocing the cursor in Red Alert 2 the game freezes. In the menu's it
totally freezes, ingame it stutters. This makes the game unplayable.
No relevant console output is given, although wine not being able to change the
screen to 16bpp (fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_desktop_SetCurrentMode Cannot change
screen BPP from 32 to 16)

The game is locking up when trying to play the first intro video. The sound
from the video can be heard for a half a second then the game hangs. Shortly
after the lock-up Wine prints

winmm: More compatible waveIn/Out[Un]Prepare WHDR_* flag handling.
Before that commit the videos were playing without freezing, but audio was
missing (so maybe it's not a real regression).
Reverting the commit fixes the lock-up (no audio during the intro videos
though).

Bitrate: 1411.2 kbps
Channels: 2
Sampling rate: 44.1 kHz
Bit depths: 16 bits

I am using ArchLinux with wine 1.3.19 and GnuTls 2.12.3 and ssl Support seems
to be broken. As you can see here

Problem. The error I get is:
"GnuTLS error: Ein fataler TLS-Alarm wurde empfangen."
In English:

I compiled wine with Debug enable. So if you have any further question, please
ask me.
More describtion:
I cant connect Via SSL anymore. Every ssl connection is going to be canceld. As
I can see, it is since GnuTLS 2.12.0 ... maybe a big change in GnuTLS? Pls take
a look an it.

This is an error that appears in nhOneClick.exe after successfully logging into
the server, only for some pages. Other pages display succesfully.
This error only happens in nhOneClick under wine, not under windows connecting
to the same server.
The error message is misleading in that the credentials are 100%ly correct,
otherwise one would not have gotten so far
