Summary: Wine removes custom drive mappings
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.40
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: sub.mesa(a)gmail.com
Wine appears to be forgetting or removing my drive mappings. I have an NFS
filesystem mouned on /nfs, i am the owner of that directory with appropriate
write permissions. I do something like this:
# create new wine directory
mkdir /nfs/winetest
# populate wine directory
WINEPREFIX=/nfs/winetest/ winecfg
# Now i go to Drives tab, make a new D-drive, set it to /nfs, then click Apply
# close winecfg
# when i launch winecfg again, the /nfs D-drive is still there
# so far so good
# now launch some random application on the NFS-mount
cd /nfs/
WINEPREFIX=/nfs/winetest/ wine "D:\\prip\\setup.exe"
# result: wine: module not found; application does not start properly
# now check winecfg again:
WINEPREFIX=/nfs/winetest/ winecfg
# now our D-drive mapping isn't set to anything; its empty.
So it appears wine removes my custom drive mappings whenever an application is
launched or tries to access its DLLs located there. If i did something wrong,
i'm not aware of it. Wine should just accept the D-drive and launch the
application, not removing my drive mapping.
I also tested without using NFS; on my home directory.
mkdir ~/winetest
mkdir ~/driveD
WINEPREFIX=/home/<user>/winetest winecfg
# set drive D to map to /home/<user>/driveD/ type Local Disk
# click apply & close winecfg
cp -p ~/nfs/prip/setup.exe ~/driveD/
WINEPREFIX=/home/<user>/winetest/ wine "D:\\setup.exe"
# result: fails again, drive D gone.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit, wine 1.1.40 per winehq.org PPA; no modifications.
The latest .41 versions is not in your PPA yet, so i can't test. Can anyone
confirm this bug?

Summary: GomezPEER fails to set processor priority

Keywords: download
Severity: minor

ReportedBy: kennybobs(a)o2.co.uk
GomezPEER sets its background process (an instance of java.exe) to the lowest
(idle) priority in Windows. It fails to do so under Linux. Does Wine lack the
ability to set process priorities, perhaps?
Apologies if a similar bug is already open but I could not find one.
On newer systems this is not a problem, but on older system the PEER can
consume 100% CPU while processing. The app is designed so that performance of
the PC is not affected, which of course it isn't under Windows (save the usual
Windows-related problems) but it is under Wine.
I'm not sure if I/O priority is also set.
The following does not work as a workaround:
$nice -n19 wine ~/blah/GomezPEER.exe
because this then sets all the Wine components to -n19 and can badly affect the
performance of other apps running under Wine.
Instead, the workaround I use is:
$wineserver -p15
$nice -n19 wine ~/blah/GomezPEER.exe
This way the wineserver remains at normal priority. winedevice.exe in this
case still receives -n19 priority, however.

when they should unless the scrollbar area is clicked on.
Simple way to reproduce: Ensure that the canvas is smaller than the window (so
no scrollbars are visible) then zoom in on a portion of the picture (ensure
it's not the entire picture). Scrollbars should appear, but instead, they're
invisible. After clicking in the area where they should be, they become
visible.

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=8261&iTestingI…
displays my new results in the "Selected Test Results" box, but on no page are
the details of the results visible in the "Test Results" box.
I expect two fixes are required here. First, more input validation on the
submission page. Second, whatever is preventing this entry from showing up
under Test Results.

SUBLANG_DEFAULT for American English.
I'm not sure if this can be changed before the introduction of .po files but

The link in the mail that the maintainer receives, e.g.
"Test Results submitted for version 1.0 of X by Y"
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4219&iTestingI…
leads to a page that shows the submitter's text with the title
"Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)"
However, the OS/version/rating 'test results' line corresponding to the
submission is missing. Instead the topmost line displays an old (known) entry.
This is really confusing and irritating.
Furthermore, the page displayed does not show a "process" or "reply" buttons. I
need to go to my queue and identify this entry among all the elements of the
queue in order to process it.
I believe both things worked well in the past -- 2-3 years ago?

Bugs start out with Mr. Bugs as the default assignee, which is evidently
intended so the mailing list gets copied on all bug changes. That's fine.
But under some situations, bugzilla seems to also automatically add
mr. bugs to the cc list.
For instance, here:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-bugs/2010-September/251648.html
Whereupon Dmitry promptly removed it from the cc:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-bugs/2010-September/251690.html
Austin verified that this had been done automatically by repeating his
component change:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-bugs/2010-September/251728.html
and then removed the extra cc manually in the next change.
What's going on here? Should that cc be added automatically or not?

Program compiled and ready to run using mingw
WINE is buffering serial ports which is in conflict with using overlapped
reads. Additionally, when using overlapped reads on a serial port, there is a
large memory leak. Every time we receive a block of data on the port, (say 800
bytes in our case,) wineserver allocates many pages on the heap and does not
free them afterwards. We are seeing as many as 21 pages lost to the heap every
time we read a small block of data.
My company is creating a Monitor & Control product that works through serial
ports, and we want it to be able to run on Linux netbooks (using USB to serial
port adapters.) This memory leak is the only thing holding us up. The memory
leak is too large for us to recommend to customers that our application can be
used on Linux platforms using WINE.
We are including an attachment for a small program that captures the leak. The
problem is a result of our call to readfile() in the do-while loop. It is using
the overlappedRead feature. Every time this Win32 function call is made, 84K
bytes disappears forever.

Summary: Some VST instruments crash when reloaded in Mixcraft
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.8
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: s_chriscollins(a)hotmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
In Mixcraft, some VST instruments crash when loaded a second time on a track.
However, the same instruments work fine when loaded for the first time on a
track. The following can be reproduced easily in Mixcraft:
1. Start Mixcraft and select "Build Virtual Instrument Tracks" from the "New
Project" window.
2. Click on the keyboard icon next to the first track name, which will bring up
the instrument selection window.
3. Select "<VSTi Instruments>" from the left pane and then "Messiah" from the
right pane. This sets the track to use the Messiah VSTi synth.
4. Now select "Acoustica Instruments" from the right pane.
5. Once again, select "Messiah" from the right pane. Mixcraft will pop up an
error box with the title "An instrument has crashed" containing the following
text: "A crash has been detected in the instrument "Messiah." This plug-in has
been muted. We recommend you save your project and re-start Mixcraft to avoid
losing your work."
Unfortunately, no helpful terminal output seems to be generated in relation to
the plugin crash. I have provided more detailed notes on VST behavior in
Mixcraft here:

This bug has been described by Octavian Vocu on one of his comments in another
bug report from the same game
(http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11819#c39). I'm pasting an excerpt of
his comment below because it explains exactly what's happening:
"There is still some issue related to doing actions on objects, with the mouse.
Clicking an actionable object should display the eye-mouth-hand dialog. Mouse
shows correct pointer, but simply clicking has no effect. I noticed that as you
push the left mouse button, you need to move the mouse slightly for the action
dialog to appear. Might be related to transparent windows, not sure yet."
It's certainly a different bug and deserves a different report, that's why I'm
creating this.
I've tested this on Debian Sid (i386) with wine-1.5.9. The console output is
small, so I just pasted it below; the messages look the same as every other bug
report on the game. The last three fixme's repeat a million times.

fixme:d3d_surface:surface_unmap Depth / stencil buffer locking is not

It might be important to notice that Octavian was probably on the right track
of fixing this with his previous patches. The game runs pretty well on 1.3.32
with three of his patches (http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11819#c37);
the issue reported here is the main thing keeping it from being almost perfect.
Also, on a 1.5.9 with the same three patches (even though the characters are
invisible again) the following three messages appear when you click an object
(when the dialog should be displayed):

sample program for reproducing FillRect bug
I have a program that uses CPaintDC.FillRect() to draw histogram samples.
It draws one-pixel wide vertical rectangles.
Under wine, the bottom-most pixel is not drawn.
I'm attaching a sample program. Under Windows7 (have 64bit pro), the red line
is touching the black baseline and the black line on the right is touching the
baseline also.
When I run the program under wine, both the red vertical line on the left and
the black vertical line on the right are floating one pixel above the baseline.
I tried both 32bit Ubuntu 11.04 (wine 1.2.2) on a netbook and also Fedora 15
64bit (wine 1.3.21) under Virtualbox on my Windows machine. Both have the same
problem.
The relevant code for the test case is in
CChildView::OnPaint() in ChildView.cpp

Unlike prior versions, the tablet stylus pressure works for Manga Studio 5;
however, if a key is pressed or the pen goes out of the window and back in,
lines drawn either draw nothing (no pressure?) or are drawn blobby (saw-tooth
pressure) like a chain of tear-drops.
The cursor displayed often jitters between two different cursors (e.g. a small
circle and a large one or a circle and an arrow). This leads me to believe that
it's swapping between two pointing devices, most likely the mouse and the
stylus.
Maybe related to 15443 and other pen pressure bugs.

When the PocketBible application is started, the splash screen appears, but
nothing else. Errors are reported on the command line. The attached log file is
generated from a clean Wine install.
After discussion in this thread, I tried using winetricks cc580 to install a
native comctl32.dll:
http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?p=17535#17535
The DLL installed was v5.80 and the application then produced an error
indicating that v5.81 minimum is required. I substituted a native DLL of this
version and the application now runs successfully.
I noticed that replacing the Wine DLL with the native v5.81 directly is not
sufficient and it is necessary first to use winetricks as above and then to
substitute the later version DLL.

Steps to reproduce:
-Download Braid Demo from http://www.playgreenhouse.com/game/NNONE-000001-01/
-Install and run it
-Enter the first level and play until you have collected at least one puzzle
piece
(this takes just one minute)
-You can now exit the level and go back to the house
-Stand in front of the puzzle area and use it
-On this screen you are supposed to be able to move the pieces around by
placing
the cursor over them, holding any Shift key and using the cursor keys or WASD
-This works on Windows; but with Wine I need to press both (left and right)
Shift
keys to be able to move a piece
Notes:
-Only the puzzle screen is affected. Rest of the game works with any Shift key.
-Once both Shift keys have been pressed in order to "grab" a piece one can let
go
one key and is still able to move the piece around until one lets go of the
2nd
Shift key. Only then the piece is "released"

In HTML-Kit build 292, one of the tab bars (the one below the current working
file) isn't displayed as expected in Wine. In Windows, the entire tab bar is
visible, but in Wine, part of it is cut off, with scroll arrows present to
bring the rest into view. Native comctl32 installed by winetricks fixes the
issue.
Interestingly, increasing Wine's DPI to 120 allows all the tabs to display at
once, though rendering is still a bit different from Windows.
Terminal output is from opening the program and entering "create a new file"
mode (which is when the tabs first become visible).

I don't know when this first started, but this is apparent in Wine 1.0.0

The cursor in Rise of Nations and it's expansion Thrones and Patriots ignores
right-clicks and left-clicks. Clicking BOTH left and right mouse button acts
as a left click.
There is a workaround. Editing the rise2.ini file, setting "ForceGDICursor=1"
allows the cursor/mouse to behave normally. It also corrects a transparency
problem with the cursor.
I don't know what traces might be relevant here...

Would it be technically possible to implement a virtual desktop that allows you
to set the colour depth and resolution, but then wine will stretch the virtual
desktop to full-screen or to a custom resolution?
What would happen if you fooled a game that needed 256 colour depth into
thinking that's what it is running in while it is actually running at 24bit?
I ask this as I am unable to change my colour depth and reduce my resolution
below 640x480. And even when I could change my colour depth it meant restarting
the X-server. I assume other people will also have this problem.

I noticed this issue testing PuTTY 0.62 with wine-1.5.19-74-g4bb92e1. Testing
on Lubuntu 11.10 (OpenBox 3.5.0 WM).
When the "Allow the window manager to control the windows" option has been
disabled using winecfg, the PuTTY terminal window does not receive keyboard
input. Instead the console window which you ran putty.exe from receives input.
That only applies to the PuTTY terminal window, not the initial settings
window. It also only applies when *not* in virtual desktop mode.
To reproduce:
- Disable "Allow the window manager to control the windows" in winecfg
- Download and run putty.exe. The PuTTY Configuration window appears. Note
that initially it does not seem to have focus; the window title bar is grey not
blue. However the window does actually have focus and receives keyboard input.
- Connect to a server. E.g. enter telehack.com for Host Name, Telnet for
connection type and click the Open button.
- The terminal window appears after a few seconds. It seems to be focused
(title bar blue) but even if you click in the window, the characters you type
appear in the console. (If you activate another window before clicking in the
PuTTY one, input goes to that window instead.)

Fragment of a screenshot showing the bug in action.
If I've got Steam client window opened on a page where some help tooltips are
expected to popup on mouseover's over some UI elements they would popup and
show as a top z-order window no matter is the Steam windows currently active
one or not. An example how might it look like may be seen in attached
screenshot.
Easiest page to trigger the bug is the "Game details" view in the games library
for the games with "Achievements" available - there would be tooltip popups
when moving the mouse pointer over the pictures representing the achievements.
This behavior was spotted with wine versions starting at about 1.2-rc1 and up
to current 1.2-rc4. Can't tell if earlier versions of Wine suffered the same
bug as I haven't got enough free time to compile and do some tests with em.

Mindmap without showing text
This application runs well, but they do not draw text correctly or do not draw
text at all. See the screenshots.
The applications are fast enough to be usable. The strange thing is that in
CrossOver 9.0 that is wine 1.1.34 based. It draws correctly but it is to slow.
I think that could be one of two problems:
* Font engine, due to CrossOver and wine have different ones.
* DIB Engine, maybe the dib engine was changed in recent wine versions and in
CrossOver don't.
Anyone can help me to do further tests in order to this issue be fixed?
Regards

Summary: StringFormatFlagsNoClip breaks StringAlignmentCenter

Product: Wine

Platform: x86

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: alexpigna.dev(a)gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
In method GdipDrawString if StringFormatFlagsNoClip flag is enabled the string
rect width is modified to be very large. This breaks how centered and probably
far alignments are handled since the string will be moved a crazy amount of
pixels to the right.
Since when StringFormatFlagsNoClip is on the clipping region is already
disabled I suspect that modifying the width is not only broken but also
unnecessary. I'm not sure though since I don't know gdiplus code well enough.
Leaving the width as it is fixes the issue for my case: a .net launcher for a
game.

Starting inetcpl.cpl directly via the start command doesn't seem to be possible
in Wine. Running 'wineconsole cmd' and then 'start inetcpl.cpl' from within cmd
gives:
Application could not be started, or no application associated with the
specified file.
ShellExecuteEx failed: File not found
start C:/Windows/system32/inetcpl.cpl gives:
Application could not be started, or no application associated with the
specified file.
ShellExecuteEx failed: Success
Both cases bring up the Internet Options control panel applet on Windows XP.
Just running "wine inetcpl.cpl" also fails, with no output except "Segmentation
fault".
