SoulSeek crashes at startup. Error messages from terminal are pasted below.
Problem occurs consistently ever since I installed Wine 1.5.20. Never had any
such problems before with previous versions of Wine. Recompiled Wine to make
sure I'm using the latest ports/sources but problem remained. I'm used to
seeing a few minor errors in the terminal but the errors below are clearly more
severe...

terminal output
Just like for Soulbringer (see bug #30745), GOG made an in-house patch for
Dungeon Keeper 2 too. The patch makes hardware acceleration available in the
game, fixes stability issues and allows to play the game in higher resolutions.
The patched version seems to work fine in Windows (according to the forum posts
on GOG), unfortunately it crashes in Wine (somewhere in wined3d).
I see the same crash with Wine 1.2.3, 1.4.1, wine-1.5.9-267-g8f108a0.
The patch installs 2 new files in the game directory: DKII-dx.exe and
patch.dll. When starting the game with DKII-dx.exe, the screen turns black for
a couple of seconds, then Wine crashes.
The 'normal' executables for the game (DKII_SOFT.EXE and DKII.exe) are still
able to start the game.
Please let me know if you need a log with the appropriate debug channels
enabled.
The attached backtrace was created with wine-1.5.9-267-g8f108a0.

+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #17195 +++
ok, after a little bit of investigation, i think i understand the pipes code
enough to be able to say what's going on, and i'm seeing something like this:
process 1:
recvpipe = CreateNamedPipe("\\pipe\fred")
ReadFile(recvpipe, buffer, &length);
printf(length) ===> 43
ReadPipe(recvpipe, buffer, &length); /* no data */
process 2:
sendpipe = CreateNamedPipe("\\pipe\fred")
length = 9;
WriteFile(sendpipe, buffer, &length);
length = 34;
WriteFile(sendpipe, buffer, &length);
what's happening is that the data being sent down the pipes isn't being done as
datagrams. the implementation is using a stream-based fd.
the solution is: you _must_ implement a protocol on top of the pipes which
sends the length (as a 32-bit int, whatever) which is read off the fd, followed
by the data stream of _exactly_ that length.
_must_. there's no two ways about this.
the protocol of Pipes is unfortunately a combination of both datagrams and
streams. datagrams because the lengths of data sent are absolute and
inviolate. streams because the data order and reliability are _also_ absolute
and inviolate.
you can't use datagrams (because they're unreliable). you can't expect all
unixen to support datagrams on top of unix sockets (if that's what's being
used).
so - you have to send the length, as part of the implementation of the
pipe-data-send.
sending a length will also solve the issue of trying to send zero-length pipe
datagrams.
as a first implementation, you _might_ be able to get away with assuming that
when someone asks for some data, they _will_ provide a buffer big enough.
... actually... i don't see any ERR_MORE_DATA error codes in NtReadFile, so
that would explain... this is going to get messy :)

Excel custom sort on Wine
To reproduce, start Microsoft Excel 2007. Enter in one or more columns of
information (e.g. "a", "b", "c" in A1, A2, and A3 respectively). Then click
"Sort & Filter" (in the Editing section of the Home ribbon) and then "Custom
Sort...". A dialog appears with a table but no menus in the table with which to
choose which columns to sort (or which direction to sort them). Clicking "Add
Level" adds a row to the table but the new row does not have any such menus
either, so it is impossible to do any sorting more complicated than simply "A
to Z" or "Z to A" on an entire selection (at least as far as I can tell.
I've attached a screenshot of the buggy dialog using Wine on Linux. Here's a
screenshot of how it should look on Windows:

Steam support, and Civ 5 support, both of these have insisted that they do not

I have an application which ships in its main .exe directory msvcrt90.dll
and msvcr100.dll. With built-in versions of these DLLs the application crashes,
so a reasonable way of action would be to run it with shipped native versions.
But running with WINEDLLOVERRIDES="msvcr90=n,b" or specifying "msvcr90=n,b"
in Software\Wine\DllOverrides section in the registry still leads to loading
of built-in dll.
Bug 28225 for a similar problem with msvcp90.dll has been closed as WONTFIX,
and the suggestion was made to install msvcp90.dll globally. I don't see
the point in asking everyone who runs this applicaion to search and install
native runtime libraries since the libraries are already installed together
with application itself. What is worse, new native runtime could be not
compatible with this application, that's the whole point of SxS assemblies -
to be able to use the specific one.

Spectrum Lab (free download from
http://dl4yhf.ssl7.com/speclab/install_speclab.zip) has a problem with
(probably) not getting mouse button up events. How to reproduce: set wine to
windows xp mode, run the program, press left mouse button with cursor on the
frequency scale: the "four sided arrow cursor" turns into a "two sided arrow",
release the mouse button: the cursor is still a "two sided arrow" (like it is
when the button is pressed, this mode is used to drag the frequency scale). Now
change the windows version in winecfg to windows ME, upon releasing the mouse
button the cursor properly reverts to the "four sided arrow" cursor mode.
It looks like the app doesn't get the "mouse button released" in this
particular case, but only in this case (menus work etc).
This issue is present in all versions of spectrum lab i've tried (this time
confirmed on the latest: v2.75b09). The kernel is 2.6.33.2 (used many different
kernels), the system is Debian lenny x86_64. Now i have wine 1.1.42 installed,
but the bug was present in other 1.1.x versions tried (x=40-42, and a few
versions around 20-30), and in the distribution package 1.0.1
I think that this issue is absent on wine 1.0.1 compiled from source on
slackware 11.0 (intel 32bit distribution), but i can't check this right now.

When running a program or on the immediate window, Visual Basic 6 shows an
overflow error with arithmetic expression that has results greather than 32767.
Dim a As Long
a = 32768 <-- This doesn't cause any error
a = 32767 + 1 <-- This one causes overflow error

This is not a normal behavior. Here, the arithmetic expressions are calculated

While that's true, we can still mark this bug fixed when it's fixed. The
depends doesn't block that (it's so people know that the bugs are somewhat
related, at least in the case of NOLF2 demo).

Uhm, I don't think this bug DEPENDS on bug 11910, that bug affects specifically
NOLF2 demo, but this is a more generic bug which deals with many more
programs/games.
Unless you mean to state that the absence of function
"msvcirt.dll.??0istrstream@@QAE@PADH@Z" is required for vertex blending (which
I doubt is the case, as the patches in this bug report have enabled others to
play for a while now).

Simply tried to install Sims 2 into WINE 1.4.
Totally failed at the first screen. Got to enter the serial number then -
install not even attempted and "fatale error" message ends the fun.
Very disappointed. Thought this would be easy. Very disappointed that this
game install has been abandoned by WINE team as it is such a popular game.

As to http://wiki.winehq.org/NativeDcom, 'winetricks dcom98' doesn't work
anymore (and I didn't try the "older, harder way to install").
Maybe you could clean up that page a bit?

I tested
db67b8611c3da3178b64472fa88ef53e32adca2b InDesign_CS2_Tryout.exe
with wine-1.5.31. It installed fine and started up fine.
"File / Place" only put up a file dialog occasionally, which is strange,
and it crashes on exit with a null pointer access, or, under warn+heap,
an access to 0xfeeefeee. But those are different bugs.

Duplicate of the AoE2 bug, the same patch fixes the issue. As stated in bug
29499 this was a common issue of most games using directplay.
Removing download keyword since the demo cannot be used to reproduce the issue.

The new bug is about a crash, which is a different issue.
But the problem with adding folders persists, even if it's for another reason.
Should I file a new bug for that too?

The funciton IRecordInfoImpl_IsMatchingType is implemented in latest wine
(1.5.31), but you can still add only single files (which works at first but
then produces a crash http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33655 ).
When trying to add a folder or a folder recursively the program outputs an
error message.
Could somebody please update the bug description?

KINGSOFT WPS
I have used ALL possibilities, in order to get KINGSOFT WPS into Ubuntu 13.04
64
THE BUG WAS CONSISTENT on all trials, as follows:
1st time: downloaded the complete suite from CNET.COM
Using Wine, input from the downloaded file, it happened like this:
a) SPREADSHEET worked away, a little sticky but worked well
b) WRITE showed on the screen, but it was almost motionless, did not work
c) PRESENTATION bugs went all over, had to turn off and on again.
2nd time: Downloaded one-by-one, that is, three files SPREADSHEET, WRITE
PRESENTATION.
the results were exactly the same, Spreadsheet worked away, Write showed on
the screen but did not function, and Presentation produced bugs everywhere.
3rd time: Installed the three on Windows, then moved on to Unbutu.
This time, loaded onto Q4Wine
The results were identical.
At the present, I left Write only installed on Windows.
Spreadsheet installed on Ubuntu and working well
I am not affected, because I am a heavy user of MS Office on Windows, and I do
not have any difficulty using LibreOffice.
But, I am trying to help some friends who do not have as much experience as I.
Most kind regards, and thinking you for your continuous support.

Patch for missing OpenGL locks in dlls/wined3d/context.c
When running Mass Effect 1.0 with Wine 1.1.18 on RHEL 5 and Core 2 Duo T7500,
it frequently crashes with "Xlib: unexpected async reply", caused by multiple
threads to access the same GLX surface. Enabling tracing for d3d shows that
this happens at least in the vincinity of context_bind_fbo, and
context_apply_attachment_filter_states (dlls/wined3d/context.c). These
functions lack OpenGL locking via ENTER_GL()/LEAVE_GL().
Applying the attached patch apparently fixes the problem.

Demo / Test App
If the ComboBoxEx items have images, they aren't displayed correctly or in the
same way as they are in Windows.
In Windows, only the currently selected item (the one shown in the control)
uses the 'selected' image - highlighting them in the drop down list does NOT
make them selected in the sense that they should suddenly use the selected
image, which is what happens under Wine.
Also, under Wine, when the comboboex loses focus (even just when displaying the
drop down list), the item shown in the control stops being displayed with its
selected image. That doesn't happen in Windows.
It may not matter once the above has been fixed but as the image changes from
normal to selected (and back) when highlighting the items in the drop down
list, the control doesn't seem to clear the area before painting the new image
- so what you end up with is a combination of the two.

It's been mentioned in a few bugs, but I don't see a bug for it, so here we go.
First, make sure bug 11354 is fixed (e.g., that you're using git / 1.3.5 /
applied that patch manually).
Then, create a character and choose city Neriak, then launch into game. Go to
the city, and move the camera around. Compare to the attached screenshot.
This is on an nvidia GeForce 480.
The buildings in the city should look like boring old off-white stucco,
but instead they look like a distorted funhouse mirror, with hundreds of
distorted reflections of your character.
To work around this, turn on Shader 3.0 in options
(click on EQII logo in lower left -> Options -> Performance -> Shader 3.0)
and restart the game.
According to the mouseover text, this requires cards with "600 PS instruction
slots".

I'm running the Hardwar demo patched to version UIM.06(the patch upgrades the

The screen will go completely black in cockpit view depending on which way
you point your craft.
It occurs most often during the games night phase(the game simulates day and
night).
I've found that adding and setting the registry string value:
'RenderTargetLockMode' to 'textex'
in: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wine/Direct3D/
will stop the screen going completely black.
Instead it will darken slightly.
I'm running the game with a GeForce 2 mx graphics card and have tried various
graphical settings in the game without any luck.

When No$Zoomer is executed (assuming a location for No$GBA

(from Wine) window appears (and the debugger is started). Despite the fact that

a user noted that he had to use winetricks to update common controls
before ProntoEdit NG's tree control would work.
The app needs mfc42, and refuses to even start unless you do
sh winetricks vcrun6
To see the tree problem, do File / New Configuration and click OK.
The labels on the tree control to the left will be all ZZZZZZ.
After
sh winetricks cc580
they appear correct.

Right-clicking on one of the upper toolbars (other than the tab bar), such as

goes with these options is missing, and the menu only shows a checkmark or

It is possible to invoke stop/pause/restart on service. Under Windows,
selecting Restart first stops service, then starts it. Under Wine it only stops
the service.
The application first stops the service, then gets its status by calling
wbem_services_GetObject and checking State. Wine's implementation caches the
service data and State returns Running. When the application sees that, it
doesn't attempt to start the service.
I already verified that modifying grab_table to always call table->fill works
around the problem.

Many people use the following construct to get the command line parameters a
process was instantiated with:
"SELECT CommandLine FROM Win32_Process WHERE Name='someprocess'"
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6264453/how-to-construct-wmi-query
The problem is that the current wmi querying does not support getting process
name. In fact very few of the Win32_Process parameters are supported.
In order to support at least Name, I'm guessing the following is necessary:
1. in dlls/wbemprox/builtin.c col_process array, add an entry for prop_nameW
2. in dlls/wbemprox/builtin.c record_process structure, add "const WCHAR
*name;"
3. in dlls/wbemprox/builtin.c fill_process function, add a line that
initializes rec->name from the current process name.

So I downloaded PDFFactory Pro and tried installing it.
pdf351pro.exe, sha1sum e9baefc05c5242347291ae7ad2627904d151eb57,
is freely downloadable from the vendor. When you run it,
it complains

You can unpack the installer with rar. It contains a Readme.txt
that mentions that the 32 and 64 bit installers were combined
into a single downloadable just four days ago, so maybe there are
some bugs left. It also contains setup.exe and setup-x64.exe.
Running setup.exe reproduces the problem with a shorter log.

In battlezone you have a few animations that are pre-rendered avi videos. They
reside in a folder called anims. Now if this folder is renamed/deleted then the
game loads fine, and you can play as normal.
This animations are only used around the main menu and pre-mission screen.
Attached is the +all log of trying to load the game with the anim folder
present.
Will attach one of the anims in next comment.

Hello,
When running Protools LE installer, everything worked great up to the point it
was trying to install under a non-administrator account?
http://screenshots.rd.to/sn/07be7b9af247cf8d34ba0acb7ace47da/5zxk1pq61ybc7s…
Every time that dialog popped up, in console i saw the following:
fixme:advapi:LookupAccountNameW L"" L"Pro Tools Users" (nil) 0x3154ac 0x13b62e0
0x3154b0 0x3154b4 - stub
Is there anyway to change that?
Also, is there anyway to make hardware "via usb or firewire" to install using
wine? OR is there a way to make protools think that the hardware is connected
but actually use my normal sound card? "make protools think that my soundcard
is an output with the digidesign digital signature or however that works"
Thanks.

The labels work in wine 1.5.30 as seen in the screenshot from comment 7.
Resolving fixed. There is an issue with the installer, I'll open a new bug for
that.

Summary: MS Office 2007 will not save files / unable to

Product: Wine

MS Office 2007 installed very well, functioned the same as in Windows-7
PROBLEM: DOES NOT SAVE FILES
When using Save As, whatever format, goes into "MS Office Configuration"
several times. Then fails on a requested module which is not installed.
Having failed a few times, advises to run MS Office Setup with option "REPAIR".
I did that a few times, but the problem persisted.
My conclusion: the filing system of MS Office will not change from Windows to
Linux (Ubuntu 13.04). Note: I am well trained USER, not so much technical, with
2 months only experience in Ubuntu 13.04. I am running my routine work without
any difficulty at all.
Other software packages that I frequently use with help of Wine:
Photoshop CS2 (successful), various Diagram Designers downloaded from CNET.COM
(I do a lot of diagramming work), MyHeritage (very good. works very well), GOM
Player, and a few little things. ALL working very well, and they were very easy
to install.

test lseek SEEK_END being ignored after fread
best expressed in python:
filelen = 200
f = open("tst", "wb")
for i in range(filelen):
f.write(chr(i%256))
f.close()
f = open("tst", "rb")
f.seek(filelen-22)
x = f.read(20)
f.seek(-98, 2)
print (filelen-98), f.tell()
but c version is attached.
from what i can best tell, the lseek(-9, SEEK_END) is just simply... being
ignored! :)
if you comment out the fread, the lseek is successful.

In gdiobj.c AnsiFixedFont gets the face-name "Courier", while OEMFixedFont
doesn't get one. I don't think that the correct font is picked when the
face-name is empty. If there is a valid OEM fixed font present in wine we could
simply set the face-name and the problem would be solved.

Two years after last comment and still think you should consider this. If some
people don't like it why don't you create a separate module so those who want
to play their gameguard games can play them and those who don't feel safe just
go dual boot or play another games.

WenQuanYi Micro Hei is used as a replacement of SimSun in Ubuntu Wine package,
SimSun is the default GUI font for Chinese version of Wine/Windows.
After 5a45e3474141536b02cfc4e924be3aacbd6ad2c5 ( usp10: Implement GPOS Pair
Adjustment Positioning Subtable. ) , the glyph pitch is wrong when display
string with ScriptStringOut using WenQuanYi Micro Hei.
The simplest way to reproduce this bug is :
1. Make sure WenQuanYi Micro Hei is installed and set as replacement of SimSun
2. Open wine iexplore with LC_ALL=zh_CN.utf8
3. type some characters into the address bar, for example, '/', '<', '>', '.'
Expect result:
The pitch between different glyphs should be a suitable value
Actual result:
The pitch between two '/' is larger then normal, pitch between two '>' is even
larger, pitch between two '.' is zero, pitch between two '<' is negative.
winetricks usp10 workaround the bug.
The attachment is a test case, notice that SSA_LINK flag in ScriptStringAnalyse
is necessary to reproduce this bug.

Continuation from bug 31524:
Now that methods for controlling service are implemented, it is possible to
invoke stop/pause/restart on service. Under Windows, selecting Restart first
stops service, then starts it. Under Wine it only stops the service.
The application never receives any notification after service status changes.
After invoking either stop or restart the service is stopped, but the options
to stop and pause are still enabled and the options to start and resume are
still disabled. This is most likely due to unimplemented
IWbemServices::ExecNotificationQueryAsync, that can be seen early in the
attached log. I improved the stub a little, so the parameter values are
included.
Attached log was obtained by connecting to a MSDE database and selecting
Restart. Winetricks dotnet20 win7 was required to install this application.

If it's really comctl32 vs user32 static control then it's obviously still
present cause this code duplication is not implemented yet and I don't think
it's trivial enough to do, at least I expect it will need some loader magic and
several test applications including dll that could act as manifest-activated
lib that overrides builtin classes. Or something simpler if it turned out that
no custom dll is allowed to do so and it's only limited to comctl32 v6.

Renegade 64's RAM viewer.
Renegade 64 has this nice RAM viewer that views the RAM of whatever emulator
R64 happens to be attached to.
Thing is, that the font used to render the addresses and their data are a tad
too small. The application seems to be programmed with one font size in mind,
and has no tolerance for fonts being a size their not supposed to.
Since the separators separating the RAM addresses are fixed, the characters
display over the separators rendering them useless. This also makes it display
too much information before a line break. I've included a picture with the
problem.
There is one fixme that also seems somewhat important:

Bug #: 33062
Summary: wined3d can't handle surfaces created off-screen in
application memory
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.24
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: andy(a)positality.com
Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 43706
--> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=43706
Start of "wine <app.exe>" log
Target application: ICR Touch
Application brief: Commercial EPOS software for Windows x86
Interesting feature: uses DirectX calls for skinned UI generation.
Looking at the attached log you will see the main error:
"wined3d_surface_getdc Not supported on surfaces with application-provided
memory"
This error is from dlls/wined3d/surface.c
I have spoken to the programmers an they state that their program creates
off-screen surfaces by default. However, if the original Create Surface request
fails their program will fall back to storing surfaces in graphics memory.
If wined3d_surface_getdc cannot (or does not yet) support off-screen surfaces
shouldn't the creation code (wined3d_surface_create?) also return an error
(e.g. check for SFLAG_USERPTR.)
Apologies if I've missed something obvious, my knowledge of DirectX is a little
rusty! I did post on the forums first.
Best Regards,
Andy

"Invalid shaders" on NVIDIA binary drivers
It looks like it's not just a warning message.
When you manually select all the tests in 3DMark06 (you need a valid license
key for the professional version) and run it you get this error message:
(see the attached screenshot).
So, it's not a "minor" bug report. Something is indeed broken in terms of
shaders support.

If I have a list view with editors, clicking on other items in the list view
doesn't remove the editing windows. Meaning, I have a richedit editing an

away.
Using keys to navigate instead works fine.
I'm seeing this problem in Personal Ancestral File 5.2.
I commented out the SetFocus() done in LISTVIEW_LButtonDown(), and the problem
went away. Though I'm not sure that's the right fix.

On windows, run notepad, type 'asdf' then 'CTRL+S' to bring up the save dialog.
On windows, '*.txt' is already selected, you can just type 'blah' then press
enter, and get 'blah.txt'. On wine, '*.txt' isn't selected, so you get
'blah*.txt' and when you try to save it, it fails.
Trivial, but annoying.

comdlg32: Use a ComboBoxEx control for the filename if the structure size
is not the nt40 version size.
ComboBoxEx requires a call to InitCommonControlsEx to work. Comdlg tests do not
call InitCommonControlsEx (or I didn't notice), and GetOpenFileName works, so I
guess that native comdlg can work with uninitialized common controls.

So GetNamedSecurityInfoW() needs to support SE_SERVICE type (patches sent for
that already) and SE_REGISTRY_KEY (could be done on top of RegGetKeySecurity()
I think). Issue seems to be related to out parameters explicitly zeroed now,
while before original patch from bug 32327 they were untouched.

Bug #: 33367
Summary: Builtin msvcr90 with native msvcr100 may cause crashes
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: msvcrt
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: CFSworks(a)gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
Some of the functions in the builtin msvcr90 do not work properly when native
msvcr100 is used, leading to crashes.
To reproduce this, try installing Python 2.7.3 in a wineprefix with native
msvcr100 installed. The interactive interpreter (Python.exe) will fail to
launch without crashing unless you either override msvcr100 to builtin, or
msvcr90 to native.
The crash, in this case, is caused by Python's call to _fstat64i32. I'm still
looking for the exact reason for the crash, but I suspect it has something to
do with the fact that fileno is being handled by the builtin msvcrt, while
_fstat64i32 is being handled by the native msvcr100.
If I can write a standalone program that causes the crash, I'll be sure to
attach it here.

stderr output of "optirun wine GalCiv2.exe"
I'm trying to run Galactic Civilizations II v1.53 (the latest), I got the game
installed through GameStop with the environment variable "export
WINEARCH=win32". The game starts up with some errors about screen resolution
color depth and ActiveX acceleration not being active, but reading other bug
reports this is normal.
When I start a new game I click next a few times until everything is set up and
when I click next the last time the program crashes with a page fault.
I've seen two other bug reports with similar problems (16235 and 19293) but
they are quite old. The first is closed with status FIXED and the second has
status UNCONFIRMED.
I've tried running the program both with and without optirun but they give the
same result. I've also tried the demo and there the problem isn't present.

Other programs such as AutoCAD97 work perfectly with Wine under Ubuntu 12.04
LTS.
This program worked O.K. the first time I used it but after re-booting the
computer I get the message that it has encountered a serious problem and need
to close.
After closing and re-starting and even re-booting and starting again, I get the
same error message.

using Ubuntu 9.10 and Wine 1.1.32 Outlook appears to find the server but the

Partial output from Fotostation build 528
Hi everyone,
I tried to get a Photo management software called "Fotostation 7" to work.
AppDB entry is at:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=23409 and I filled
out what works and what doesn't. (I am the maintainer of this application)
I had problems playing video. The application requires "Quick Time" which
installs okay. I used version 7.7.1 for this. Also I had problems sending info
to Fotoware. I have attached my console output, could you please look into
this?
Thanks.

The launcher for the game tends to crash shortly after starting (before all the

For some reason, there are occasions when the launcher loads properly (without
crashing), but this is rarer.

According to my testing, the problem appeared in Wine-1.3.33 and is still
present in wine-1.4-284-gc5faf15 (with Gecko 1.5 installed).
