However, when I click "start" the game screen goes dark but the sound continues normally. The oldest versions tend to display strange patterns loosely related to some inventory items, the newer ones typically display nothing. Moving the mouse over the item's position still describes them, but it would be a PITA to play the game this way. Resetting the game's graphics settings (e.g. by changing any video setting - quality, AA, etc. - in options and clicking "Apply", or by using the "gfx_recreate" console command) returns the performance back to normal, until the next drop occurs. Tested on Gentoo, wine 1.7.47 (there's no ebuild for 1.7.48 in Gentoo yet), wine-staging 1.7.47, wine 1.7.21 (since that one is reported as working on AppDB), behaviour is the same.
