Summary: Out of memory error in Cyber Chess
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2-rc6
Platform: x86
URL: http://www.zdnetasia.com/downloads/windows/cyber-chess
_sw-39349263.htm
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: markk(a)clara.co.uk
This bug applies to the game Cyber Chess by Cosmi, both the retail CD-ROM and
downloadable trial.
The trial can be downloaded from
https://www.cosmi.com/login.aspx?Next=Download&Matnr=CDRS831 (registration
required) or e.g.
http://www.zdnetasia.com/downloads/windows/cyber-chess_sw-39349263.htm (no
registration required). It's about 80MB.
Just before starting a game (after the FMV sequence), there is a dialog box
which says "Sorry, not enough memory to proceed. Quitting".
The Cosmi web site
http://www.cosmi.com/cgi-script/csFAQ/csFAQ.pl?command=viewFAQ&database=Cyb…
points to an article on the Microsoft web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894472 "Third-party programs that require lots
of memory do not run in Windows XP Service Pack 2".
The MS article says: "This hotfix includes a new Xpsp2res.dll file that
dynamically finds a memory location to reduce virtual memory fragmentation.
Before you apply this hotfix, we recommend that you ask the vendor of your
programs to verify that this solution is acceptable. This hotfix enables the
new Xpsp2res.dll file to find a memory location dynamically and reduce virtual
memory fragmentation."
With Windows Vista, the out of memory dialog also appears. However, the game
runs okay under Vista in XP SP2 compatibility mode. The out of memory dialog
appears when running the game under Wine in XP mode.

Hi,
unfortunately within my configuration several (but I could say 'all') old game
I tried to execute in a resolution lower than 1440x900 shows flashing graphic
artifacts.
First of all my configuration:
- Software: Gentoo x64 Mesa 11.1.0 - Gallium v0.4 - any version of Wine from
the 1.4 to 1.7.55 (I could say 'any' version because I'm trying them also with
PlayonLinux, not only but also ;) and of course the anomaly appears in both
way)
- Hardware: AMD R9 290X Intel Core I7 CPU
Then game names:
- Sacred
- Divine Divinity
- Pharaoh
Now, I'm not totally sure it's only a Wine bug because with AMD Catalyst this
exact issue is not there but anyway I'm opening a bug here to check Wine
behaviour with OSD drivers: maybe there is something wrong?
How can I help in the analysis?

When you click on an entry in the Wine uninstaller for which the uninstaller is
unable to execute, a dialog box is shown reporting that the installer was
unable to execute.
It prompts you with whether or not to remove the uninstall entry from the
registry with the options Yes or No.
When selecting Yes, the uninstall entry is never removed from the registry and
remains in the list.

The launcher for the game APB: Reloaded is a .NET app.
It has many glitches with wine-mono but I used to be able to click "Repair",
wait for the game to update itself, and then click on the "Start" button that
showed up when the repair was done and start the game.
Since wine 1.9.2, clicking the "Repair" button does nothing, which prevents the
"Start" button to show up.
A visible sign of this change is that mousing over the buttons does not make
the bitmap of the button show up anymore as it used to.
A regression testing revealed this commit to be the cause of this change :

Hi,
I'd suggest that wineboot checks the value of WINEARCH when creating a new
prefix Wine, and errors out with a nice error message if WINEARCH is unknown
(neither empty, nor win32 or win64).
Currently I think there's only a test if #arch in system.reg is valid.
This check especially helps new users who confuse win32 and wine32, e.g.:
$ rm -rf .wine
$ export WINEARCH=wine32
$ wineboot
wine: created the configuration directory '/home/jens/.wine'
[...]
wine: configuration in '/home/jens/.wine' has been updated.
$ grep \#arch .wine/system.reg
#arch=win64

the program still froze.

After executing "wine uninstaller" and uninstalling an application I have
noticed that it got not removed from the list. I tried to uninstall it again
but I got notified that the uninstaller for it doesn't exist anymore and if I
want to remove the entry from the list. But clicking the "No" button in this
dialog has also caused the "Modify/Remove" button to get the pressed animation.
