Installed wine-staging package via the wine0-builds PPA on new install of
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS last week. Installed a Windows 3.1 16-bit application in the
Windows virtual file system. Everything worked great! Today, installed
package update with executables built March 6. 2017. Suddenly, my 16-bit
application gets an error whenever it tries to open files! In the console, the
error message is "fixme:commdlg:GetOpenFileName16 custom hook 0x17a7053e no
longer supported". This is really bad!

Summary: Lotus Smartsuite 3.1 installer reports insufficient

Bisect log
The installer for Lotus Smartsuite 3.1 reports that there is not enough disk
space and refuses to continue.
$ df
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda2 914G 57G 811G 7% /
This used to work fine. Unfortunately during the bisect I also hit a
segmentation fault that I cannot work around and had to do a lot of skips, so
pinpointing the correct commit is not possible. Attaching the bisect log as
someone more knowledgeable may be able to spot the commit.
Console output:
fixme:ole:RemUnknown_QueryInterface No interface for iid
{00000019-0000-0000-c000-000000000046}
Definitely still works with wine-1.7.37-182-g050bda2
(050bda2ece4f249d2973c3d4e1a1f5f3671de053) - though there is a
RtlpWaitForCriticalSection hang, which is different again to Bug 19655.

Rejected patch
The problem is that WM_NCACTIVATE is not sent if the new foreground window was
already an active window.
The patch I wrote for this is attached, and here's Alexandre's feedback (he
wants more tests):
https://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2017-March/116877.html
I'm posting the patch here to make sure that it doesn't get lost, because I
don't think I'm going to get this done to Alexandre's satisfaction. Honestly,
I'd rather that someone else took over entirely.

Summary: 3-byte utf8-charactes don't display

Application cannot identify the glyphs for 3 byte utf8-characters - display as
squares
This is a snippet from a SQL-script.
insert into `unitest`(`id`,`english`,`native`) values (4,'mandarin','官話');
insert into `unitest`(`id`,`english`,`native`) values (5,'thai','ไทย');
insert into `unitest`(`id`,`english`,`native`) values (6,'hindi','हिन्दी');
insert into `unitest`(`id`,`english`,`native`) values (7,'arabic','العربية');
(the origunal file is utf8-encoded)
Thai, Hindi and Mandarin characters dont display in common Windows program such
as Notepad++ (a text editor) and SQLyog (a MySQL client). In Windows it works
fine with same programs and in same type of native Linux programs it also does
with same fonts specfied (for instance I tested that both "Liberation"and
"Noto" fonts work fine in LibreOffice in Linux (not Wine) but none works in
Wine.
I think that Wine does not *provide* details - such as glyphs - to applications
from the font file, if the utf8-encoding for a character is more than 2 bytes
long.
Tested with Wine 1.8 and 2.3 on various OpenSuSEs. No diference.
Attaching screenshot from Notepad++

CLI output after several attempts to run
Clean Wine install on Fedora 25 (x86-64)
Using
WINEPREFIX="$HOME/wine_office"
WINEARCH=win32
riched20=(builtin, native)
Tried with XP, 7, and 10 version settings.
Installing Visio 2010 went smooth, no errors. Then launched Visio and it pops
up with the setup dialog, does some install stuff, switches to Visio splash
screen, then crashes with an unhandled exception: page fault read error.
Installing other Office 2010 applications (Word, Excel, etc..) in another
prefix works fine with the same settings.
Have tried multiple times to install in alternate prefixes with various config
changes and all end with the same result.
