http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-windows_prog…
I tried setting the variables TEMP and TMP like this to C:\Temp
http://www.winehq.org/docs/wineusr-guide/environment-variables
Didn't helped and the variables where already set to the valid path
C:\users\myuser\temp
Also tried to replace comctl32.dll with one from Windows XP but also didn't
helped.

SETUP:
wine --version
wine-1.8.7 (Debian 1.8.7-2)
setup_cossacks_back_to_war_2.1.0.18.exe
all 32-bit
Program was started from console, then always single player mode.
w3@deb9:~/.wine/drive_c/GOG Games/Cossacks - Back To War$ wine dmcr.exe
All went fine for several small and simple scenarios to the end (VICTORY!!!)
but in a more involved scenario when quite a lot of units (~soldiers) are in
action the below happens. [This seems to happen under Windoze XP prof. too (but
that was with an older cossacks version) - the game usually gets only a bit
slower and if one realizes in time one can move within the game out of the
'danger zone' towards less units in action and then Windoze usually struggles
through. If not - windoze kills the program (unexpected ...). Sorry for the
fuzzy details - but thanks to wine I know now it's a zero-devide in the game
and that's a killer.
BUG - terminal output:
~/.wine/drive_c/GOG Games/Cossacks - Back To War$ wine dmcr.exe

I have been experiencing a problem with graphical applications run under wine
switching my computer off.
Haha, where to elaborate. 3d Graphical applications native to linux run
perfectly, perpetually for me, or at least not a timeframe I can measure.
However should I run (even a multi-platform) graphical application from wine
(on any wine version or linux distribution) the computer will switch off
(dead). This does however even apply to graphical applications run under
virtualbox i.e. dos games 2D or 3D. Graphics work properly & perpetually from a
dual-boot into windows.
My graphics card is an AMD R7 series, it has been fairly hammered by usage,
also the fan although working has a severed cable, this is the reason for my
assumption to a graphics issue between application software and driver
software. I can only presume that the fan cable maybe a speed or temperature
monitor and although windows or linux native has an override or failsafe for
missing hardware communications, emulators have no such fallback.
I do however believe that this was not an issue with wine under kubuntu
17.04, although on a fresh install of 14.04 with wine 1.6, this event is
occurring now. In addition just notably now this occurs ripping a movie from
dvd, although not on a playback (LOTR extended is fine).
Thans in advance for any measure of assistance
Kind Regards
Basil Dazz
