Summary: moving mouse outside the wine virtual desktop causes
crash in FastBltNoTrans()
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0.1
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows XP
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: stephanecharette(a)gmail.com
Installed the game "Nancy Drew: Stay Tuned For Danger". Installation and game
start seems to work well. But the mouse icon is customized for the game, and
changes depending on whether there is an object under the mouse with which you
can interact.
If at any point during the game the mouse is moved outside the wine virtual
dekstop, the game immediately crashes with the following Windows dialog window:
-----------------------
FastBltNoTrans() - err ret = 88760096, pDescription = Dirty Rect Fast Blt,
rSrcRect: t=158, b=198, l=-5, r=25, dwDestX=-5, dwDestY=158 - DDERR_INVALIDRECT
- Rectangle provided was invalid.

I added it to AppDB here:

I also have an earlier forum posting here with several other details:

Heavy Rain Demo (free and available through EGS, which can be easily installer
through Lutris) seems to have a problem with its animations when using Wine's
implementation of xaudio2_7.
Particularly, they don't seem to finish and instead just repeat in a loop. You
can see it in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-cWHZnx4xM (there
also seem to be some awful cracking going on but it seems to only affect the
full game so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
Using native xaudio2_7.dll solves the animation issues.
When using wine's implementation of xaudio2, the only xaudio-related line in
the logs appear to be this:
0152:fixme:xaudio2:IXAudio2Impl_QueryInterface
(0xa5ba90)->({60d8dac8-5aa1-4e8e-b597-2f5e2883d484},0x22f950), not found
As a backend, I use FAudio.
Let me know if any logs are needed and which debug channels I need to use.

The binary that works well on Windows, and less well with Wine
If Wine executes a C++ program executing `std::filesystem::remove_all`,
compiled with MSVC, then it will only succeed to remove empty folders, but will
silently fail if the folder is not empty. The call will not raise any error,
but the folder and its content will stay on disk.
In attachment is such a program, rm.exe. If you do `rm.exe <dirname>` on wine,
it will fail to delete non-empty folders. But the same command on Windows will
succeed.
The only Wine terminal output, which shows both when deleting an empty folder
(success) and a non empty-one (failure: bug), is:
002b:fixme:kernelbase:AppPolicyGetProcessTerminationMethod 0xfffffffffffffffa,
0x22fd10
I tested this with wine-4.0-rc5 on Archlinux. And did the Windows side of tests
on a Windows 7 professional.
The program source code is:
#include <filesystem>
int main(int, char** argv)
{
std::filesystem::remove_all(std::filesystem::path(argv[1]));
}
I compiled this program with MSVC version 19.15.26732.1 for x64, with Wine, and
with `/EHsc /TP /std:c++17` flags.

We now have a Hebrew translation of notepad. The goal was to have at least one
translation in so we can see what bugs we currently have with respect to Hebrew
(and Arabic for that matter).
The screenshot shows some squares where it should show Hebrew text.
I have no idea where to look yet. The title bar seems fine but the text in the
dialog isn't.
Some of the other dialogs also shows squares but I guess it boils down to the
same bug.

Output of the configure and make commands
I'm trying to package Wine 6.20 for Slackware 14.2 (Stable).
Glibc version is 2.23.
Gcc version is 5.5.
Both the 32 and 64 bit versions are affected.
No such problem when building release 6.19.
The build process fails rather soon when compiling file
dlls/ntdll/unix/loader.c. From what I understand, the issue is related to the
__WAIT_INT (status) macro defined in header file /usr/include/sys/wait.h (Part
of glibc).
The macro is expanded into:
__WAIT_INT (status): (__extension__ (((union { __typeof(status) ; int __i; }) {
. = (status) }).__i))
but the compiler does not recognize it as a valid declaration and issues a
warning resulting in the error reported in the attached wine_make.log file.
The output from the configure command is included in the second attached file:
wine_configure.log
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance

linux 4.19 commit bd14406b78e6daa1ea3c1673bda1ffc9efdeead0
I bisected Linux 4.18 to 4.19 to find this commit which stops BO2 from
launching under any version of wine from 3.12 to 4.0-rc6, attachment below.
For convenience I hand-reverted the file kernel/events/hw_breakpoint.c as
follows :
/**
* modify_user_hw_breakpoint - modify a user-space hardware breakpoint
* @bp: the breakpoint structure to modify
* @attr: new breakpoint attributes
*/
int modify_user_hw_breakpoint(struct perf_event *bp, struct perf_event_attr
*attr)
{
int err;
/*
* modify_user_hw_breakpoint can be invoked with IRQs disabled and
hence it
* will not be possible to raise IPIs that invoke __perf_event_disable.
* So call the function directly after making sure we are targeting the
* current task.
*/
if (irqs_disabled() && bp->ctx && bp->ctx->task == current)
perf_event_disable_local(bp);
else
perf_event_disable(bp);
#if 0
/* new logic : >= kernel 4.19 */
err = modify_user_hw_breakpoint_check(bp, attr, false);
if (!bp->attr.disabled)
perf_event_enable(bp);
return err;
#else
/* old logic : <kernel 4.19 */
if (!attr->disabled) {
err = modify_user_hw_breakpoint_check(bp, attr, false);
if (err)
return err;
perf_event_enable(bp);
bp->attr.disabled=0;
}
return 0;
#endif
}
I examined some wine source code and found many instance of use of
PTRACE_POKUSER. I don't know enough about this function to know if this kernel
commit directly breaks the wine code, or some other fault in wine code is
indirectly triggering the problem. Using "old logic" in the file
hw_breakpoints above enables kernel 4.19 to start BO2 with 4.0-rc6 (and most
likely others).

whose
headers now no longer compile under Wine 6.20's wineg++ after including

Compiling the above with `wineg++ --std=c++20 <filename>.cpp` with GCC 11.1 now

regression test showing the bug
Hi,
Normally when the write end of a pipe is closed, the read end should see that
upon further reads. However wine's _popen()/_pclose() do not work that way - a
child's read from stdin blocks after the parent's _pclose().
I've attached a patch to the tests to show the problem. The tests hang, but
should succeed.
I reproduced this on git commit 8b9f1e12841298591387e2b7590191610a37986e
Regards,
Andres
PS: I encountered this because I was trying to fix a bug in the windows port of
postgres without having to use windows...

The error message.
When one runs the games Obduction or RiME , which are both based on Unreal
Engine 4, with Wine commit d8be85863fedf6982944d06ebd1ce5904cb3d4e1 or later,
noise is output instead of audio, and an error occurs in F3DAudio.c, line 349,
and the error message "pDspSettings->DstChannelCount == ChannelCount &&
"Invalid channel count, DSP settings and speaker configuration must agree"" is
shown. Screenshots are attached. The game will then exit or eventually crash.
This commit and the previous one makes use of new code to process audio, so the
error seems directly related to that.

Workaround 1: Installing WMP 10
Workaround 2: Rename 're6title.wmv' to something else in
'GameFolder/nativePC/movie' and create an empty file with the same name.

astrotoaster crash backtrace
Astrotoaster runs with default settings, but trying to manipulate and convert
images, the attached backtrace is created every time.
Works fine in native windows and windows VMs.
To reproduce, download (free) astrotoaster application:
http://www.astrotoaster.com/download/SetupAstroToaster_205a.msi?attredirect…
put a couple fits files in a folder from a set for image stacking, and
configure the image directory in the application to point to the folder with
the fits files in it.
Click on the buttons labeled "monitor", "refresh" and "stack"
A viewer window will pop up with a dark image that needs adjusting. Click the
color adj button and move the "expand" slider to any value, then click the
"apply E/G" button to reproduce the crash. It may have already crashed before
this.
convert.exe is the module with the crash.
