Good looking with a native gdiplus
With a builtin gdiplus, there is a problem with coloring the cases of channel.
Problem does not occur with a native gdiplus dll. Compare the two screenshot:
the first one with native dll, the second one with the builtin dll.
Note the behaviour in a real Windows 10 box is the behaviour of the native dll.
So, there is a problem with the builtin dll.

test project with screenshots
We develop a charting library and found some gradients are drawn as solid white
shapes in Wine for Ubuntu. Reducing the issue to the minimum we found the
problem seems to be when drawing a rectangle with a PathGradientBrush.
See the screenshots in the attachment.
- Windows.png is the result of running the .exe in a Windows 10.
- Ubuntu.png is the result of running the .exe in Ubuntu 16.04 using Wine. We
got the same result in Wine 1.6 (?), 2.0.2 and 2.17.
The attachment also contains the .exe and the project sources (made with Visual
Studio 2017).

Comparison builtin gdiplus vs native gdiplus
Certain graphs (e.g. box plots) and graph components (e.g. axes) are not
rendered while using builtin gdiplus. This happens irrespective of the OS and
is solved when using native gdiplus (see attached examples).
The problem can be observed using this software:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/fruits/files/FRUITS2_installer.msi/download
a file needs to be loaded and run (by pressing Estimate in the software) to
generate the graphs:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/fruits/files/simple_CN_model.frt/download
I created the software (using Visual Studio). If requested I can provide the
source code.

Sourcecode that draws GdiPlus pixel-perfection tests. Image that shows tests
drawn using native and builtin GdiPlus.
Lines are off by 1 pixel at either start or end position depending on drawing
operation. Image and source code attached. Marked with severity major since it
ruins pixel-perfection for UI components developed to rely on GdiPlus. In other
words, it looks too ugly to be released to customers.

"winetricks gdiplus" makes it a lot faster.

Summary: Texconv fails with mipmap error unless "-nowic" is
supplied to disable WIC use
Product: Wine
Version: 6.14
Hardware: x86-64
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: windowscodecs
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: winebugs(a)63bit.net
Distribution: ---
Texconv.exe returns mysterious errors about mipmaps if "-nowic" is not passed.
This appears to be some problem in the interaction between windowscodecs.dll
and texconv mipmap level detection.
Example (probably any DDS will work to repro):
Texconv.exe -nologo -y -sepalpha -f BC7_UNORM -bc q -o "C:\blah\out"
"C:\blah\TamrielTreeLod.dds"
returns FAILED [mipmaps] (80070057: Invalid parameter.)
Source for texconv is here:
https://github.com/microsoft/DirectXTex/blob/54ce2c8da97c3508899c31f80bfb1e…
Binary is available here:
https://github.com/microsoft/DirectXTex/releases/tag/aug2021
Passing "-nowic" parameter succeeds, causing me to suspect windowscodecs.dll
