From https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/7308 (YUR).
The program ships a Windows.winmd file and links to it as a regular .NET
assembly. Wine Mono doesn't find it because it's not looking for a .winmd
extension, but renaming to .dll isn't good enough (though technically it is a
CLR image and does load). We need specific support for winmd assemblies.

Compiling a combined 32+64 bit Wine with -march=znver1 is broken since at least
Wine-9.0-rc1.
Tested on Debian-12 (gcc-12.2.0). There seems to be a problem with libtiff.
I'm using the following commands to build Wine since years. They worked fine
with Wine <= 8.21.
(Wine source has been extracted to wine-*)
Please tell me if you think this is not a Wine regression, but a GCC bug. Then
I'll report it at GCC.

Native cmd echoes commands after some canonicalization has been done
on their redirects. A batch file containing
dir 1> ok
dir > bad
dir | bad
dir > blah > bad
echoes as

(note the extra space inserted before the > or |).
Wine's cmd doesn't currently do this, but it could probably
do so without too much trouble; it already collects redirects
separately for each command.
For the moment I'll probably put a kludge in the cmd conformance
test runner to compensate.

most recent backtrace, 20220920 122500 US Central.
I have multiple occurrences over the past several months (most of which I have
saved the backtraces for) of the game crashing.
Symptoms include:
Game crash on logout
Occasional Game crash on zone
Failure to load textures, or glitched textures loaded
I am unable to glean any information from the backtraces, primarily because I
am not familiar with x86 assembly, but I have had issues like these for a while
now. They mostly occur after switching between characters multiple times, or
zoning a large number of times, but the most recent one (attached) was totally
random as I was walking through a zone.

Error log and message
Since bug 44379 is fixed, the launcher now starts the locale-emulator, that
then seems to crash. It shows a messagebox (message in attachment) and doesn't
start the game.
Note that the launcher is a 64bit .NET binary, and I didn't get native .NET to
work properly in a 64bit prefix yet.
As workaround you still can start the game directly (run LeyLine.exe).

Press Yes. Now the installer window disappears.
Now press enter in the console. The $ prompt returns.

Example batch
The amended Wine cmd.exe (version 6.1.7601 [1.6.2]) is unable to display a
batch script to emulate written text to a command line (script attached).
The script runs true in sequence if perused, however, the line where the text
should be displayed, yields the characters, "a~0,1", which is a defined
argument (expressed in attached script), but not the correct output.

QuantumGIS is an open source software which run very fine on linux.
Today, i try the windows version on a quantal 32 bits chroot on my debian sid
amd64.

I'm not able to easily update to 7.2 because I'm on a mac and am largely
dependent on https://github.com/Gcenx/homebrew-wine but I tested myself in Wine
6.0 and had a friend using Linux test in Wine 7.1, and it seems unlikely that
this was fixed in the 7.2 update.
It seems like the %__APPDIR__% and %__CD__% path variables don't work in Wine?
See the "undocumented" section of https://ss64.com/nt/syntax-variables.html
Example:
wine cmd.exe
echo %__APPDIR__% -> just prints "%__APPDIR__%"
On my windows machine, "echo %__APPDIR__%" prints "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\" or
"C:\Windows\system32\" depending on which version of cmd.exe (32/64 bit) was
invoked.

The native CMD.exe contains many syntax and other errors related to the FOR and
IF commands processing inside of ()-blocks. This is very importans for apps
that require complex batch scripts on run. Let's begin.

The terrain in SimGolf is not rendering properly. I've attached a screenshot
and a trace log, however I'm not certain where this problem occur, but it's
probably a rendering problem.
I didn't get anything when using the following debug channels:
+ddraw,+d2d,+d3d. In the attached log, I've used
+all,-relay,-dsound,-heap,-pulse,-sync, which might provide a log with too much
information.

Wine logs with WINEDEBUG=quartz
Game has 2 options for video playback, MCI and Windows Media Player (WMP).
When using gstreamer, MCI backend works fine, but WMP floods the terminal with
`err:quartz:send_buffer Failed to get a sample, hr 0x80040211.` while showing a
black screen, then audio starts playing.
Curiously, if you install `lavfilters` from `winetricks` so that gstreamer
isn't used, then WMP plays the video back properly.
The black screen started to show up since
ed2c300d02acefa2aedd4333ff4a982137c1d4fe (after 7.6).
Wine logs with `WINEDEBUG=quartz` are attached in the archive. Before the
regression (6f1b3cf9), with first bad commit (ed2c300d) and current master
(8.8, 5662d85e).
Trial version of the game can be downloaded from Download section here:

Game can be extracted directly from `RewriteTE_Ver200/StartData/GameData` in
the archive.
To set it up you'll need:
- `LANG=ja_JP.UTF8` and `TZ=Japan` environment variables, game refuses to start
otherwise
- `winetricks wmp9` for WMP backend to work, game crashes otherwise when it's
used, installer might say "It was not possible to complete Setup" which is fine
- MPEG-1 codec from `lib32-gst-plugins-bad` for the opening video
When starting up the game, hold Ctrl to get to the main menu faster.
Video backend can be configured in Config - ムービー設定
(https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/20689137/126137253-0fe05ddc-2187-…),
should be WMP by default.
To exit Config, right click or click on 戻る in bottom-right corner.
Click Start on the main menu, then hold Ctrl to skip until the opening video.

As I had trouble starting the icedtea-web in the wine git version, I asked for
help from the icedtea-web staff and some guy sent me a command to perform to
determine what it was all about.
The original command is:

Terminal output
When PeaZip starts, it displays a file explorer. Browsing files on the C drive
works fine, but if you double-click Z: or a directory symlinked to a directory
on drive Z, the program freezes. Then, if you click in the file explorer again,
an error dialog appears that says "Index Out of range".
This was a regression in Wine 5.5. `git bisect` says:

- the TASInput window should close, but doesn't, and freezes up.
- Eventually, (at least for me) GNOME prompts me to force-quit Mupen.

Tooltip from WeChat that should be from the system tray
System is running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.
Kernel version is 5.4.0-125-generic.
Desktop environment is Unity 7.5.0.
Hardware is Dell Inspiron 7577, which has an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7300HQ CPU
and a Nvidia GTX 1060 Max-Q GPU.
When running an application that minimizes to the system tray when closed, the
application is effectively gone. There is no small system tray panel on the
screen, unlike what I see about the issue online. Maybe the system tray is size
0x0 on the top left corner, since the tooltip pop-ups that should appear on the
system tray icon appear on the top left of my screen.
The lack of system tray was observed with WeChat, I don't know of other
applications that use the system tray and have an automatic tooltip at the
moment, though if you point me to an installer I can try it to see if the
problem is reproduced.
Let me know if other information is needed.

Tutorial 1 debugs, pagefaults, backtraces...
This seems to affect the game any time you are going into battle. At the
loading screen the game will issue a exception.
You have two choices, retry or cancel. I've provided a backtrace log that
results from each selection - as well as the game's built debugger log.
For anyone wishing to confirm, just try Tutorial 1. It will crash in under
2mins. The other tutorials may crash too, but not nearly as often since there's
not many battles to load. I was using the Demo CD I got in a promo.

A crash of 3d_pcba_viewer.exe with +secur32,+crypt,+cryptnet,+chain trace
When launching zofzpcb.exe it performs a license check. This check apparently
uses the AEAD algorithm Chacha20 Poly1305.

From other bug reports, and from a more thorough log, this appears to be
GNUTLS_ECDHE_ECDSA_CHACHA20_POLY1305.
I installed wininet based on a recommendation in bug #32479 but that simply
resulted in an exception getting thrown: `Unhandled exception: unimplemented
function urlmon.dll.414 called in 64-bit code`
I am running Ubuntu 22.04.1. For ease of debugging, I'm running this under
WSL2, however the ultimate goal is to get this running under macOs.

Maplestory now works when downloading through the Nexon launcher, it logs into
the game and even into the world, but after a few minutes of playing (it is
mostly random, but not more than 5 minutes). The game freezes for a bit then

attaching the last lines of the log when using WINEDEBUG=warn+all
it's only the last lines cause I can't for some reason run the Nexon launcher
using redirect operators to write to files (e.g. WINEDEBUG=warn+all wine
nexon_launcher.exe > wine.error.log), so the log is the output saved from the
console. The log corresponds to the time when the game crashed

This is a very minor and subtle bug, on windows only really visible when the
old classic theme is used.
In all NSIS installers, the bottom line text should be rendered as 3d disabled
text, see screenshots.
As a sidenote, wine can draw 3d disabled text, it's just that for some reason
it is not applied here.

Process output using WINEDEBUG="warn+all"
Application shows a warning during startup with an audio initialization error:
"Yousician is unable to start its audio system. Please check that you have a
microphone or instrument input set up, open the app settings, and select a
working setup."
When trying to change audio setup, application also throws an error.
Audio worked without major issues in previous versions, but it is not feasible
to roll back to a previous version as the application automatically updates.
Let me know if I can provide more info to help solve the issue.

Hi,
As far as i can see HoMM2 has platinum support. I have a big doubts in that.
Just tried 2 game distributives:
1. Game in russian freezes on start screen. No menu labels highlighted when
user moves a mouse over it.
2. Same build but in english - freezes on campaign screen when user may choose
award. Can't start the game.
3. Another distributive (english) - after you win any campaign level the screen
is black and you must gues whee to click to start another level. Or press
Enter.
Attached is the save game at end of first level to reproduce no 3.

Wayland cinematics bug
I just installed Warcraft 3 (cd version) and I am mostly unable to play
Warcraft 3 on Wayland, but not in X11.
There are two errors. Both only occurs in Wayland and are fixable by playing
the game in X11 first. Both bugs happens on all my laptops (Ubuntu 20.10) and
my Vega 56 machine (Ubuntu 20.04 LTS)
Error 1:
The game will not start, since it plays a intro-video in the beginning the
first time it is launched. This can be circumvented by launching the game in
X11 first and then launching it in Wayland afterwards, since it is not shown in
launches afterwards.
This error occurs every time a video/cinematic is played in the game, so it
also happens when starting the Human campaign. Again the fix is to play in X11
first, since it follows the same "mechanic" as the intro video when launching
the game.
Error 2:
This error appears to happen when the game is forcefully shut down and then
trying to launch it again. Not entirely sure why, but in the logs it appears as
if it is not able to initialize some output. It also will not "reset" itself by
doing wineserver -k. Instead I have to log out of the current session and then
I can launch the game again.

I have installed gstreamer1.0-plugins-*:386 packages, which are required to
reach the cinematic bug. Otherwise wine will complain that gstreamer is not
installed. When i386 packages of gstreamer are installed it reaches the
aforementioned cinematic bug.
Also X11 is not able to playback the cinematics in-game, however, in contrast
to Wayland it recovers and I am able to advance further in the game.

ANONYMOUS;CODE has video files it plays as cutscenes. They currently do not
play (both audio and video).
Reproduction: Start a new game and hold left CTRL key to skip until main
character enters a car. After the line "Why's all this happening anyway?",
proceed to trigger a video playback. While the video is supposed to be playing,
you can use mouse right click to bring up the option to skip to determine that
the game has not crashed and is still running.
Setup: Proton Experimental (bleeding-edge branch) which as of writing is based
on

. A WINEDEBUG log with traces for mfplat is attached as a file. This is on Arch
Linux x86_64 with Mesa drivers on Intel CPU and GPU (Intel Tiger Lake-LP GT2
and 11th Gen Intel i3-1115G4 to be exact). Notice I'm using a XAudio2_9
redistributable native DLL instead of the built-in ones to bypass a voiceline
related crash. I'm unable to provide a non-Proton log as the game is DRM'd,
unfortunately.

The program no longer works as whenever a request is made to encode an audio
stream it's status remains as, "Pending".
Some Background. 8.13 introduced some instability where the program would just
freeze occasionally, again a java related error but could be worked around by
stopping and restarting the program.

When I try running any command(not builtin) in Cygwin bash or sh, I get no
output and no results in Wineconsole. Though, among usual harmless LDAP-related
errors, Wineconsole outputs the following to terminal:

- Run "wineconsole" from terminal. There you'll see NtQueryDirectoryObject
error.
- Run "uname" in Wineconsole. Despite FAST_CWD error, it works.
- Run "sh" in Wineconsole.
- Run "ls", or just press Enter, or run any other non-builtin command and see
those 3 NtQueryDirectoryObject errors. Command itself will not just output
anything, it won't work at all, just silently release the terminal.

ntdll: NtReadFile async reads always return success when avail_mode TRUE
TeraTerm is ending up with missing data when it reads from a COM/Serial port.
TeraTerm sets ReadIntervalTimeout to MAXDWORD and then calls ReadFile
asynchronously, and if there's pending IO it waits 1 second for the overlapped
struct event to be signalled. If the signal is received, it processes the
received I/O, else continues on and will perform another ReadFile. This is the
code snippet:

What's happening in WINE, is ReadFile returns non-zero with ERROR_IO_PENDING
and the WaitForSingleObject times out. The asynchronous read *does* complete
after the timeout, but by that point the application has given up and moved on.
I initially thought the application was at fault, because it should retry if
the wait times out. However, in the documentation for ReadFile it points to
documentation about COMMTIMEOUTS
(https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/api/winbase/ns-winbase-commt…)
which says the following:
A value of MAXDWORD, combined with zero values for both the
ReadTotalTimeoutConstant and ReadTotalTimeoutMultiplier members, specifies that
the read operation is to return immediately with the bytes that have already
been received, even if no bytes have been received.
To me, that means Wine ought not to be triggering an asynchronous read when the
comm timeout parameters are set as indicated above.
I coded a simple fix, which is in NtReadFile, if avail_mode is TRUE return
success even if no bytes were read. See attached patch. It works for TeraTerm,
I have no idea if it causes other regressions.

Screencast demonstrating the leftover lines problem
I've used Microsoft Paint on WINE, I found that when I set
line thickness to >1px (using Line tool) and select Rectangle tool,
then drag mouse to South-East direction to create a rectangle
(but don't release mouse button yet), then move to West, then North,
and release the button. I'll see that some color pixels that's used to be
old rectangle border were left over.
The larger line size, more obvious the effect.
Apart from leftover lines, there is also a knot on the top left of the
rectangle. (Won't be visible at first glance, use Magnifier tool to see it)
These leftover lines (and knot) also didn't disappear on Undo too.
Screencast demonstrating this problem and affected image also attached.
(Using 5px line thickness in this case).

I ran into some code with where an IDispatch object has a Get_Item method:

ok, after a little bit of investigation, i think i understand the pipes code
enough to be able to say what's going on, and i'm seeing something like this:
process 1:

what's happening is that the data being sent down the pipes isn't being done as
datagrams. the implementation is using a stream-based fd.
the solution is: you _must_ implement a protocol on top of the pipes which
sends the length (as a 32-bit int, whatever) which is read off the fd, followed
by the data stream of _exactly_ that length.
_must_. there's no two ways about this.
the protocol of Pipes is unfortunately a combination of both datagrams and
streams. datagrams because the lengths of data sent are absolute and
inviolate. streams because the data order and reliability are _also_ absolute
and inviolate.
you can't use datagrams (because they're unreliable). you can't expect all
unixen to support datagrams on top of unix sockets (if that's what's being
used).
so - you have to send the length, as part of the implementation of the
pipe-data-send.
sending a length will also solve the issue of trying to send zero-length pipe
datagrams.
as a first implementation, you _might_ be able to get away with assuming that
when someone asks for some data, they _will_ provide a buffer big enough.
... actually... i don't see any ERR_MORE_DATA error codes in NtReadFile, so
that would explain... this is going to get messy :)

Unfortunately you can't switch between different "Windows application" windows
using ALT-TAB in this mode.
And when you use ALT-TAB to switch to other X windows, this may cause the
Windows applications to assume that the ALT key is being stuck hold down. This
is probably another bug, but I can't find a bug report for it. (feel free to
create a bug report and link it here, if you encounter this problem)

Currently attempting to play Akiba's Trip Undead & Undressed causes the game to
deadlock / crash after showing the intros and skipping the intro movie.
With movies enabled in the game options wine winds up printing a glibc
assertion.
With movies disabled in the game options the game deadlocks after hitting a
critical section timeout.
In both cases there are mfplat errors present in the logs.

The UI windows in A-Train PC Classic are unusable.
Note: This game was ported from the Nintendo 3DS, and most / all of it's UI is
intact. "UI windows" are essentially the game's menu / dialog box interface.
(Called "windows" here as that's what the game's configuration INI file calls
them.)
Attempting to start a new game the first time causes each window to fill the
entire application window and draw on top of each other. With only the top most
window receiving user input.
For the second attempt to start a new game, the windows are correctly sized /
placed but only the most recently drawn window accepts user input with no way
to switch to an inactive window. This breaks the game as the first requirement
of the player is to use an inactive window's "Enter Company Name" button.
The game's configuration INI file contains options for setting each window's
origin X/Y coordinates, width and height. However editing these values manually
seems to result in a deadlock. With the game continuing to update the
application window (minimize / partial hide / etc.) but otherwise refusing user
input after showing the company logos.
Attempting to use a known good configuration file from Windows also doesn't
work. As the game seemingly ignores it with no visible window behavior change
from when starting a new game. As described above.

Bisect log
Starting with Wine 1.5.18, Atlantica Online is no longer playable due to a bug
where if you attempt to rotate the camera with the mouse (right-click and
drag), Atlantica's graphics lock up and the game seems to lose the mouse. You
can get the game to respond again by pressing alt on the keyboard, but you
still can't rotate the camera (or rather not much, it'll move a tiny bit each
time before locking up).
I went ahead and bisected this, and also ran into a problem where Atlantica
never got control of the mouse/keyboard and had to be closed with alt-f4. In
these cases I used 'git bisect skip' to continue. Git finally came up with 18
possible "bad commits". Looking at them in gitk, the following commits are of
note (the first skipped commit and the first known bad commit):
841214ddb4d4dc620e6b51dfe6655b585d423edc - user32: Don't check for driver
events before normal messages in PeekMessage.
a0f039a6049641cc2be8fa32f2afa3c3f394a99b - user32: Fix the wait event mask in
PeekMessage.
The first of these commits caused Atlantica to not respond much to
mouse/keyboard events (you could get a partial response from the mouse if you
could get it over a button, but you can't see the pointer), and while the
second patch fixed that, attempting to rotate the camera using the mouse causes
Atlantica's input/graphics to partially freeze as noted above.
I've attached the bisect log so that you can have a look at it if you need to.

Uses a simple program to test where the crash occurs
I use arrays of UDTs which work under MS Windows. (Any version post Win 2000
except ME.) The program also works happily on a Mac using a Parallels virtual
machine.
These fail under WINE if one or more of the fields is a string. The "TYPE"
order makes no difference.
UDTs which contain only numbers are not affected.
Failure occurs on any attempt to "ReDim" or "Erase" the array. The problem does
not occur when the strings are fixed length or for flat UDTs containing strings
of undeclared length. Prior to a crash, the content of the UDTs can be read and
written to.
Trying to write a simple program produces strange results. I tried initially on
an old PC and found that it would crash simply by redimming the arrays but when
installed under Parallels, it will handle simple arrays and only crashes as I
start to get more adventurous; i.e. using a UDT type declared in a DLL but
otherwise identical.
My main program can be downloaded at http://navsoft.com/AstroNav_Setup.exe. It
makes no claims to being compatible with WINE but there are references to the
problem area elsewhere in this forum by Users who would like to run it under
WINE.
AstroNav uses UDTs extensively. The problem is the Almanac screen where multi
dimension UDTs are widely used. With AstroNav, simply declaring and then
destroying the arrays will cause a crash. [There is also a problem with WINE's
treatment of SetGraphicsMode which I have not yet pinned down but will
hopefully circumvent very shortly. (The SetGraphicsMode API does not work quite
as Microsoft claim so removing it, is probably desirable.)]
The attached backtrace was caused by the following code. The crash occurs only
for Command4_Click() and only on the third press. (Rapid pressing will cause a
"The array is temporarily locked" error/ crash.)

It might sound useless but the WINAPI supported Itanium PPC MIPSR4000 and dec
alpha in the past.
While windows doesn't provide updates for those platforms, compiling programs
written for the WINAPI to those arch is the best way to get decent speeds (not
to add the need of support for ARC firmware which prevent running them on
recent ppc).
Of course this is not for emulating instructions sets but for running windows
programs natively on those platforms.
For testing on x86 an ARC bios for MIPS which can work on qemu is documented

01 terminal output
This game don't start via terminal. BUT!
When i just starting it by clicking on the .desktop file, it runs! This
behavior is pretty interesting. Of cource, this game crushes even if start by
clicking on desktop label. But if we want to see what stubs happens in game, we
should before fix terminal behavior.

I only used these commands:

I know from older testing, that the installer needs at least dotnet45. Since
Wine 5.12 installing dotnet45 via winetricks is a pain. If you achieved to
install dotnet45 via winetricks, affinity installer want to install the update
to dotnet472.

AFAICT, all SRPG Studio (an engine: http://www.srpgstudio.com/) games fail to
run without setting up WINEDLLOVERRIDES="jscript=n".
Lets use Vestaria Saga as an example (download link on
http://site.wepage.com/vestariasaga/page5-02).
Without native jscript, all that happens after launching it is an error dialog
with string 'A-Phese 7'.
The whole of builtin jscript debug log is short and not all that helpful:

Running Notepad++-7.6.3 on wine is a rather painful experience, as Notepad++ is
rather slow. When keeping a key pressed, characters appear in blocks and
Notepad++ consumes 90% cpu.
Please see the sysprof profile attached, it seems a lot of time is spent inside
(GetLocaleInfoEx).

When I launch FL Studio 20.9.1, the main window displays, but freezes before I

Running wine-1.1.48_1.2rc5-1.1, i downloaded the demo from velumng.com, a race
management software.
So far it works well, I created a race, two participants, entered start and end
time, but when I come to the result list creation, the load goes up to 100%,
and caused a hang of the X-session once.
At this point it seems to load a HTML-page that was dynamically generated. wine
did not submit any error message when started from console.
Let me know what I can do to come to a more verbose error output.
