Hi,
With wine-7.0-rc5, my gamepad (XBox Series) is not recognized in-game - I tried
with wireless or wired mode and in both cases, the pad does not work.
On Win11, the gamepad is automatically recognized, no need to modify controller
in settings.
Tried with Proton-6.3 outside Steam and same issue.
Thanks,
Maxime

The launcher of Guild Wars 2 (where you enter your user name and password) uses

I think it's bug, because X comes laggy too, and on Windows 7 its don't uses a
whole core to run.

The default key for swapping weapons in Guild Wars 2 with a German keyboard
layout is '^' (Circumflex accent). However, nothing happens if you press that
key to swap weapons under Wine.
You can type '^' in chat just fine though. Likewise, you can swap weapons if
you bind it to another key like 't' or if you press the swap button with the
mouse.
Once you change the binding away from ^, it is no longer possible to return to
^ since the dialog doesn't register the key press either. (You can still reset
all controls back to default; there's a button for that.)
Testing further, it turns out that you also can't bind the ´ key (Acute
accent).
>From images online I do believe English keyboards have a ` (Grave accent)
button, which probably works the same as the German ^ and ` keys. To make sure
I'll spell it out anyway:
1. Press ^ once and you get a sort of preview of that character.
2. Usually you'd now press e.g. 'a' to get 'â'. If you actually want ^ without
anything below it, you have to press ^ a second time.
I suspect that this special behavior is why these two specifically are
affected.
It's very possible that the English ` is also affected, but that's not testable
for me.
The easiest way to reproduce should be to go Esc -> Options -> Control options
(lowest button on the left) -> Double click on anything to try to change the
binding.

Sid Meier's Pirates! (patched to the latest 1.0.2 version) performs badly in
Wine. This issue is described in several test results on the Appdb page of the
game, too.
I can observe the following symptoms:
- After the intro video played, it takes almost 2 minutes to get into the main
menu (without noticeable hdd activity).
- When I get into the game and visit any places in the port (Governor,
Merchant, Tavern etc.) it usually takes the game 15-20 seconds to display the
next screen (although music plays continuously).
- While sailing, the game frequently "freezes" for 2-3 seconds without no
apparent reasons.
When those hiccups occur all animations freeze on the current screen until the
next screen is loaded but music plays fluently.
Reducing the screen resolution, graphical details or disable audio doesn't
help.
I remember playing this game several years ago in a native Win XP without this
issues.
No demo available.

Test program is find.exe as of wine commit
ccec532879ec14b2e79da08288152a69221ec4d1.
I implemented the program so it waits for ReadFile to return FALSE, that's when
the input is supposed to be over:
######
BOOL success = ReadFile(handle, buffer, 4096, &buffer_max, NULL);
if (!success)
return FALSE;
######
Now that's not right anyways, but it exposes a slight difference in Wine cmd:
1) Following input hangs on Wine, but not on Windows: "echo test | find test"
It works on Wine when using "winetricks -q cmd"
2) Following input hangs on both Windows and Wine: "find test < test.txt"
Wine's implementation of the pipe | uses the redirect operator < internally.
This leads to the pipe working differently on Wine, i.e. blocking ReadFile when
it's not supposed to.
I'm not aware of a real program being affected by that, just noting.

Summary: FL Studio: 32-bit/64-bit VST plugin bit bridging soft
locks the host

Trying to bridge a 32-bit VST plugin in FL Studio 64-bit, or bridge a 64-bit
VST plugin in FL Studio 32-bit, leads to this being outputted:
003c:err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x1ac6028 "?" wait timed out
in thread 003c, blocked by 002a, retrying (60 sec)
And the DAW soft locks with a loading cursor as it blocks the UI until the
plugin's loaded, forever trying to bridge the plugin.
(By "soft lock", I mean that FL Studio itself is still responsive, but you're
completely blocked from doing anything and the only way to get out of it is to
kill the process.)
======
Steps to reproduce:
1. Download and install FL Studio 12 Demo:
https://support.image-line.com/redirect/FLStudio_Installer_Google
The demo and the full version are the same executable.
You will need the Arial font or any ttf named as arial.ttf in
"C:/Windows/fonts/". If you have Winetricks just run "winetricks corefonts"
(you will need the cabextract package).
2. Download any 32-bit or 64-bit VST to test.
This is the one I tried, a 32-bit plugin (http://veg.by/en/projects/syxg50/).
The plugin itself is working perfectly. You can use any VST you want, as long
as you know whether it's 32-bit or 64-bit.
Put the dll file in "~/.wineprefix/drive_c/Program Files
(x86)/Steinberg/VstPlugins/".
3. Open the FL Studio version which DOESN'T match the instruction set of the
VST you're using. If you're using a 32-bit VST plugin, open FL Studio 12
(64-bit). If you're using a 64-bit VST plugin, open FL Studio 12 (32-bit). (If
you're using the VST I linked to, open FL Studio 12 (64-bit))
4. When FL Studio is launched for the first time, a featured project file is
automatically loaded. Click "File" in the top left corner and then "New" to
create an empty project.
5. Click "Options" > "Manage Plugins"
6. Click the "Start scan" button with "Verify plugins" enabled (make sure the
light is red). Let it scan for plugins.
7. Close the window, click "Add", and then "More plugins..." (under System)
8. Find and select "S-YXG50" (or if you used another VST, pick that).
9. Because the instruction set of the VST plugin doesn't match the host
program's (FL Studio), FL Studio will try to run the VST plugin under a
"bridge" (which uses ilbridge.exe, the bridging program installed as part of FL
Studio). However, the plugin never loads. The UI blocks any interaction while
plugins are being loaded so FL Studio is effectively soft locked.

I want to set /tmp on my machine to be only readable and writeable by root and
I cannot use Wine with that configuration unless I can change that folder.
Also, only allowing the static folder in /tmp opens up a denial-of-service
attack against other users. A user can be a jerk and create /tmp/.wine-uid
directories to block other users.

Wine simply does not use TMPDIR environment variable and as far as I know Wine
has never used this environment variable... it just defaults to /tmp

Lumen backtrace
I am trying to use software called Lumen for the Light camera, which is only
available in either a Windows or IOS version. The windows version is available
from
https://light.co/lumen/windows
Besides the Lumen (Beta) software, the installer installs Qt Licensed Software
Redistributables and Visual Studio C++ Runtime Redistributables. In order to
get the latter to install, I followed a suggestion to use the Windows XP
version in winecfg for the installer. This seems to do the trick with the
installation. However, when I try to run the software, it bombs out. A
backtrace is posted here.

Summary: Borland C++ Builder 5 expects registry values to be read

test
It arranges the component palettes in the same order in which it read the
values from the registry (even if MSDN exlicitly says not to rely on the order
in which the values are read). We store the values in the alphabetical order to
binsearch them so the palettes under Wine are in alphabetical order instead of
the configured order.
I attach a small test showing that under Windows the values are read in the
same order as they were written.
