On fedora 33, with latest wine, and running Cyberpunk 2077 under waylaid,
there's no sound in radios whilst driving a vehicle. However, this is solved by
installing pipewire. The steps I followed where:
sudo dnf install --allowerasing pipewire pipewire-pulseaudio pipewire-alsa
pipewire-gstreamer
Then perform a reboot, and if required upon next logon:
sudo systemctl --user restart pipewire-pulseaudio.service
Thanks!

Wine 6.6 (from Ubuntu winehq-devel package)
GOG Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine 1.2 (23840)
Store page: https://www.gog.com/game/indiana_jones_and_the_infernal_machine
Repro steps:
1. Download setup_indiana_jones_and_the_infernal_machine_1.2_(23840).exe from
GOG.
2. Run the installer from step (1) in wine.
3. Once the installer is finished, run "$HOME/.wine/drive_c/GOG\
Games/Infernal\ Machine/Jones3D.exe".
4. In the launcher that appears, click the "Resume Play" button.
5. Wait for the "Load Game" dialog to appear.
Reproducibility: always
Notes:
- I've attached screenshots of the "Load Game" dialog's appearance running
under Wine as well as Win10, in addition to a console log w/
WINEDEBUG=+commdlg,+dialog.
- In the "Load Game" dialog, I can use the TAB key to switch between controls
even though it's not rendered correctly. If I TAB to the filename box and type
in a save game filename, the game does load the file correctly and it's
playable.
- It looks like the "Jones3D.exe" that we originally launch is launching the
real game in "$HOME/.wine/drive_c/GOG\ Games/Infernal\
Machine/Resource/Indy3D.exe" and that the "Load Game" dialog is actually being
created from Indy3D.exe rather than Jones3D.exe, but launching Indy3D.exe
directly doesn't work.
- I have been able to reproduce the same issue in PlayOnMac w/ Wine 4.12.1
(19.0.0-cx) x86on64), and PlayOnLinux w/ Wine 4.12.1, 5.0, and 6.5 as well.

Summary: Audacity: keyboard shortcut that opens dialog window
also inputs into that window
Product: Wine

In Audacity, if I use a keyboard shortcut to activate an effect, it pops up a
dialog window with the effect's settings. In Wine, however, the keyboard
shortcut that brings up the window also gets inputted into the window's active
dialog box. This does not happen on Windows.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install and start Audacity (latest version is 3.1.3, but this bug happens in
any version I have tested).
2. Go to Edit -> Preferences... -> Keyboard.
3. Search for "amplify" and assign it the keyboard shortcut "1". Click OK.
4. Create or import some audio (you can go to Generate -> Tone to create some
audio).
5. Select the track, then press the "1" key.
RESULT
The "Amplify" effect dialog window pops up with the amplification amount set to
the shortcut key, "1".
EXPECTED RESULT
The "Amplify" effect dialog should not be receiving the previously-pressed
shortcut key as input. Instead, the amplification amount is supposed to be set
to normalize the audio to 100% volume. If you generated a tone in step 4 using
the default settings, this likely will be "1.938".
I discovered this bug because I use CTRL+SHIFT+V as the shortcut for the
Amplify effect, and in Wine, this results in a paste operation taking place
into the amplification dialog box.

This is more of a feature request, I hope I completed the form correctly. I
was wondering if it would be possible to either add the screen reader NVDA in
to a default installation of Wine, or make it so that NVDA can be installed in
to Wine. NVDA would give blind Linux users access to applications in Wine. It
does not use video hooks, so it is probably the best choice for a Wine screen
reader. It is open source and can be found at:
http://www.nvda-project.org/
The installer talks, so if it could be made to work, installing it with out
sighted assistance would be no problem.
Thanks

I first discussed this here: https://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=36088
but eventually came to a conclusion this is a bug. It has two sides:
1) Wine will only register 4 gamepads even if more are connected.
2) When multiple gamepads are connected, Wine loses atleast some of their
input.
Ad 1). I used Gamepad Tool from https://generalarcade.com/gamepadtool/ to check
how many gamepads are connected. I used (unknowingly) kbct:
https://github.com/samvel1024/kbct to create 4 virtual gamepads in addition to
my real one. I am sure there are other ways to add more gamepads, either just
connecting them physically or somehow fakeing them. With KBCT, one just needs
to add an appropriate number of devices to grab. Kbct will produce a fake
gamepad for each grabbed device, as it will list each device as being able to
emit basically all keys linux knows, including gamepad keys.
So a minimal config.yaml would be on my system like this:
- keyboards: ["Logitech K800", "AT Translated Set 2 keyboard", "Logitech MX
Vertical", "ThinkPad Extra Buttons"]
- one just needs to list some devices available when running evtest.
This bug is not about kbct - that is just a way to trigger this bug, which I
believe is presetn in Wine. Linux otherwise does not have any problem detecting
moredevices.
2) When I reduced the number of faked devices to two (and one real one), my
game (Worms WMD) would register just the left axis of the gamepad and not other
controls. Curiously, when I tried GamePad tool, it would register the presses.
No idea how Windows would behave, but I do not see a reason why the game would
not be able to use multiple gamepads.

> d8be85863fedf6982944d06ebd1ce5904cb3d4e1
> xaudio: Use the bundled FAudio and build with msvcrt.
However, in that version the game crashes immediately after the intro sequence
with error:
> Assertion failed: (voice->src.wmadec != NULL && (pBufferWMA != NULL || voice->src.format->wFormatTag == FAUDIO_FORMAT_XMAUDIO2)) ||
> (voice->src.wmadec == NULL && (pBufferWMA == NULL && voice->src.format->wFormatTag != FAUDIO_FORMAT_XMAUDIO2)), file ../wine-git/lib
> s/faudio/src/FAudio.c, line 2456
Then, this seems to have been fixed immediately in the next release 6.21, in
commit:
> babaf916ab12c7a9128409f717878919ccc5826b
> faudio: Build with -DNDEBUG.
After this the game works, but it behaves as described above. The attached log
was made using the second commit. The bug is still present in the current
latest 7.1 release.
I've CC'ed the authors of both commits like mentioned on the regression testing
wiki page, I'm uncertain which one should be considered more relevant for the
bug. My interpretation is that the newly introduced bundled version of the
faudio library is built or configured differently than the previous
distro-provided shared dependency, and disabling debug assertions just made the
message go away but there's still an issue, so I guess both are relevant.

I want to report a strange issue when i try to run a game that require external
dlls. It seems that wine doesnt follow windows naming convention. For example
when some game (usually unreal engine game or cry engine) tries to load
"Library.dll" and it is located on ntfs disk with name: "library.dll" wine
doesnt load library because of first lowercase letter. In summary windows games
doesnt care about letter case. Tested only on wine staging.

I'm not 100% sure if this is an app bug, or if wine messes something up, but
Unigine sanctuary reports:
Found optional Vertex texture fetch
and later fails badly, see
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/6053
This is with mesa r300 driver (latest git). None of the R300-R500 cards have
vertex texture support and as far as I can see mesa correctly reports
GL_MAX_VERTEX_TEXTURE_IMAGE_UNITS = 0
BTW Anno1404 under nine also produces TXL opcodes in vertex shaders, but there
is might be also gallium-nine problem. The Sanctuary is with pure Wine.

Firefox 91 esr works quite well with recent socket fixes but video playback
(e.g. on youtube.com) freezes after a while. This is probably not related to
sockets as the download still progresses and sound playback continues. If the
freeze happens, no other videos can be played in the same tab.

trace log
Since wine (vanilla or staging) 6.2, the Riot Client Launcher fails when
updating itself. This worked fine with wine 6.1 (vanilla and staging)
This wasn't much of a problem since LoL players used a lutris versions based on
wine 5.x. Starting with the last League Of Legends Client update, the CEF
upgrade requires a patched wine 6.15, so users will begin getting this error on
the next Launcher update.
The launcher throws the following error when starting the update process:
```
Update failed: Failed getting path to current executable: File path could not
be found in a mapped drive: \??\c:\Riot Games\Riot
Client\RiotClientServices.exe
```
I bisected the problem to commit bd0a3c1a59db9e75500db6df0f3598c981abf44e. For
some reason the launcher worked with the stub implementation of
GetMappedFileNameA/W, but not with a "real" one. I can confirm that reverting
the commit on 6.15 makes the update work.
Attached is a trace log of the execution (from wine staging 6.15, with the most
frequent calls removed). The interesting part should start in line 546, when
the debug message says that it will start the update, and end in line 1705,
when the update process ends. In line 1361 there is a call to
GetMappedFileNameW, which should be where the error begins.

Application rendering Windows vs Wine
I have an esoteric scientific Windows app which I would like to use with Wine.
But, (with Wine) I have noticed that in a significant number of places the text
gets cut off, almost as if it is too long to fit. See attachment
`app_output.png`. The app displays correctly under Windows.
I do not have access to the source code of this application, and cannot comment
on the quality of the code. It may be that the position and size of the
bounding box is hard-coded, rather than using a GUI control layout manager.
However, I believe I managed to track down the issue and have created a minimal
example which demonstrates the problem (see `main.cpp`, please excuse the
style, I am not very familiar with Windows C++ GUI programming).
In the example, I call `CreateFontIndirectA` twice, first time with `lfHeight`
of `LOGFONTA` set to `15` and the second time to `16`. The issue seems to arise
only for small values of `lfHeight`. See the attachment `testcase_output.png`
for how it looks like on Windows vs Wine.
On Windows, both lines are indistinguishable, but on Wine, the second line
(`lfHeight = 16`) is significantly longer than the first line (`lfHeight =
15`).
It seems at first like the ligatures of the font are missing - which explains
why the text `ffi` changes width but the text `aaa` does not. But I am not
sure, as the `ffi` text also seems taller in the second line on Wine.
I am using winehq-devel (7.3) on Ubuntu 20.04. If it helps, I also attach the
relevant sections of output with font tracing enabled `WINEARCH=win32
WINEDEBUG=+font wine main.exe`.

I discovered this while trying to reproduce 5255.
During installation, the Nota Bene Demo reports that AUTOEXE.NT and CONFIG.NT

restore them. If you agree, the installation starts. However, when the
installation bar reaches 100%, the installer crashes.

program crashes immediately.
I have attached a log.

Wine - wine-7.0-rc2 (Staging)
Playground Sessions - Version 2.5 (Their only version)
Backtrace uploaded
The problem started after a dnf update command that brought wine to version
6.21-staging. Tried downgrading wine as far as I could but the problem
persists. Created new wine prefix (32-bit) and no luck.
I am about at the limit of my skill here. This is the only app I use with wine
so I do not have a lot of experience with it.
The program can be downloaded here.

The software is proprietary and subscription-based, but it crashes well before
the authentication screen is presented.
My personal feeling is that I am missing a library but I have no idea how to
check that.

d3d11:d3d11 crashes on the cw-gtx560 machine which has an NVidia graphics card.
The crash happens from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 2009 so it seems to be related
to the graphics driver rather than to the Windows version.
https://test.winehq.org/data/patterns.html#d3d11:d3d11
The crash shows no backtrace but I added traces and found that the crash
happens on the final release in test_device_context_state():
refcount = ID3D11Device1_Release(device);
Adding a trace on the previous line shows that the refcount before that call is
1. So it's not a case of a one-too-many release calls.
Without test_device_context_state() d3d11:d3d11 does not crash. According to a
bisect the commit causing this crash is:

ConEmu shows "ConEmuC64.exe: PID=132: GetConsoleProcessList failed, code=0" at

Returning zero is an error according to documentation, "because every console

Then ConEmu starts successfully, so this is a minor issue.

AFxW window after launching
AFxW[1], aka あふw in Japanese, is an ultra-low functionality two-pane file
manager.
After launching AFXW.EXE, it should show file lists in panes as seen in [2].
But, it doesn't on Wine.
@momota1999, a reporter on Twitter, tweeted list items would be shown by moving
the cursor (with up/down arrow keys) and the issue didn't occur on Wine 4.0
(Debian 4.0-2). I can confirm both of them with AFxW v1.65.
Steps to reproduce:
1. unzip afxw32_165.zip
2. LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 wine AFXW.EXE
Expected result:
File list panes are updated on start-up without any key inputs. You can see
file names, their size and time stamps in the panes.
Actual result:
File list panes aren't updated on start-up. You can't see anything in the
panes.

Crash on authentication
As of version 1917874 of the EVE Online launcher, the application crashes when
trying to log in. According to the developers, they moved to a new credential
management solution (involving https://github.com/frankosterfeld/qtkeychain and
the Windows Credential Store), and they said that Wine currently doesn't
implement the needed syscalls for this to function.
I've attached a stacktrace which looks like it crashes somewhere in cryptopp,
but I haven't been able to figure out much by debugging (winedbg doesn't see
any of those function addresses as valid, and I haven't been able to map them
to functions in a disassembler). Let me know if I can provide any more
information that would be helpful.

Bad behavior
The issue affects SourceInsight 4 in particular. SourceInsight has its own
built-in theme functionality which doesn't get along well with any non-standard
Wine theme.
When a non-standard Wine theme is selected, then the main toolbar in SI4
ignores its app theme and always gets drawn with the selected Wine theme.
Selecting the default Wine theme fixes the issue - the toolbar is drawn
according to the app theme. On Windows it's ok no matter which UI theme is set.
Screenshot of the issue is attached.
The root cause of the issue is that
UXTHEME_broadcast_msg/UXTHEME_broadcast_msg_enumchild in dlls/uxtheme/system.c
both use a PostMessage() call to send WM_THEMECHANGED to affected window(s).
In SI4 the main toolbar is implemented as a combination of a custom container
window (si_Rebar class) and a standard win32 Rebar control (RebarWindow32
class).
Immediately after creating the RebarWindow32 window, SI4 does
SetWindowTheme(hwndRebar, L" ", L" ") for it.
According to MSDN
(https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/api/uxtheme/nf-uxtheme-setwi…)
> The theme manager retains the pszSubAppName and the pszSubIdList associations through the lifetime of the window, even if visual styles subsequently change. The window is sent a WM_THEMECHANGED message at the end of a SetWindowTheme call, so that the new visual style can be found and applied.
>
> When pszSubAppName and pszSubIdList are NULL, the theme manager removes the previously applied associations. You can prevent visual styles from being applied to a specified window by specifying an empty string, (L" "), which does not match any section entries.
- this L" ", L" " stuff means that SI4 DOES NOT want for system visual styles
being applied to its RebarWindow32 control. However, according to WINEDEBUG
logs they were applied to all bg erase, painting etc operations no matter the
SetWindowTheme(, L" ", L" ") call.
Turns out that RebarWindow32' WndProc receives WM_THEMECHANGED too late, after
all stuff including drawing already happened with the system-wide theme being
applied. The reason why it was received so late is simple - SetWindowTheme
implementation in wine uses PostMessage() instead of SendMessage(). Replacing
it with a SendMessage() call allows to fix the bug.
I've checked what Windows actually does in SetWindowTheme and found out that it
always uses SendMessage to send WM_THEMECHANGED (for any HWND).
So. suggested fix:

In Morocco the currency sign has 5 characters. This is simply not supported by

But even the currency sign is only two characters VarParseNumFromStr() fails
because it advances a pointer by one character only. For instance with Polish:
varformat.c:641: str=L"0,000 z\0142"
varformat.c:643: Test failed: Unexpected hr 0x80020005.
Note that the w10pro64 TestBot Windows VMs have an incorrect UserDefaultLCID so
that these issues are not actually tested (see bug 51451). The w7u VMs are more
correct in this regard but only test simple European cases (€).

On wine-6.12-162-gd10887b8f56
Full solution is in the attachment, but Wine is improperly formatting floats
when using printf "%g" or iostreams. A very simple example is:
std::cout << 9.999999999999999e-5 << std::endl;
It should print "0.0001". It does print "0".
Of course, this affects much larger and more complicated programs, too.
Tested on Ubuntu 20.04, although I don't think it matters.

Hi there.
While checking out Total Commander and one of my own TC plugins on Wine 4.0.2
on Debian 10.7 I saw that it failed to read the description of all services.
After double-checking my code (and confirming its correctness) I saw Wine's
output on the terminal:
> 006b:err:service:validate_context_handle Access denied - handle created with access 1, needed 4
Then I downloaded the source code of the current version dev version 6.0-rc4,
searched all files (because I didn't know where to look) and found the culprit
in programs/services/rpc.c, more precise in function
svcctl_QueryServiceConfig2W where it makes the call to
validate_service_handle() in line 984.
The bug and fix for it is simple: The needed access right must be
SERVICE_QUERY_CONFIG instead of SERVICE_QUERY_STATUS, since it's the service
config queried here, not its status.
Out of curiosity, I checked half a dozen older versions and found that this bug
has been in the code since its implementation back in Wine 1.1.14. This more
than a decade old wine didn't age well ;). But I guess this is a simple
copy'n'paste error.
Maybe check for similar bugs/mistakes in the other functions when fixing this
one.

services.exe:service checks the values returned by GetMonitorInfoA() when
called from a service. This test fails on Linux when the desktop environment
places the taskbar / dock at the top of the screen. For instance on fg-deb64:
https://test.winehq.org/data/patterns.html#services.exe:service
service.c:422: Test failed: service: Unexpected monitor rcWork values:
{0,30,3840,2160}
Here rcWork.top == 30 which is exactly the height of the KDE taskbar.
Notes:
* We probably would have a similar failure if the KDE taskbar was placed on the
left side because then rcWork.left would probably no longer be zero.
* Placing the Windows taskbar at the top or on the left does not cause a
failure: in all cases rcMonitor == rcWork == (0, 0, 1024, 768) == full screen
size in the TestBot VMs. This probably means the bug is in Wine's
GetMonitorInfoA() implementation.
* Interestingly user32:monitor does not fail, but then it does not seem to
expect left and top to be zero.

Source code for the primary exe to recreate the issue
It is possible for a child process to inherit an invalid hStdOutput HANDLE if
the PE header has the subsystem value of IMAGE_SUBSYSTEM_WINDOWS_GUI and it is
launched via ShellExecuteEx.
It also requires the primary process to be launched via:
- 'wine' if it is a PE32+ executable; or
- 'wine64' if it is a PE32 executable
Attached are two source files that can be used to recreate the issue:
1. main.c (the primary process); and
2. child.c (the child process)
Compile with:
x86_64-w64-mingw32-gcc -o main.exe main.c
x86_64-w64-mingw32-gcc -o child.exe child.c -mwindows
and run with:
wine main.exe
The child.exe creates a file called 'stdout.log' that dumps the
STD_OUTPUT_HANDLE value and its FileType. Under wine, this is:
StdOutput: 14, Type: 1
and under Windows, it is:
StdOutput: 0, Type: 0
I first ran in this this issue when running Elite Dangerous from Proton 6.3
(i.e. wine version 6.3) - but my investigations show this still occurs with git
commit 6b277dc89d55.

MSBuild from Visual Studio build tools 2019 fails to launch FileTracker which
is needed for incremental builds. This apply for Wine 6.3 but it works on
Staging. I bisected this to wow64cpu patchset which is tracked in bug 45567.
Then I found that there are patches for wow64cpu on the list for upstream. But
these don't fix the problem. So after investigating this further I've found
this: what really fixes the problem is calling load_builtin_dll() in
process_init() and this builtin dll must not be in PE format. If -mno-cygwin is
enabled, it does not work. It is not important which exports the library has,
no need for setting Wow64Transition.
I'm attaching two traces - good and bad. Maybe someone could identify what is
happening here.

The first time we start the game, it asks about monitor settings. In thumbnail

Probably, this issue is common among its game engine, AGE_System.

It runs ok, but when I try to activate it, I'm getting an error instead of
opening a browser window that should lead to activation page. There is no
errors in the console output.
The error message from Melodyne itself has such lines:
identifier = "com.celemony.https.request_failed.12152.1";
message = "Could not receive response.";
Wine backtrace with WINEDEBUG=+winhttp,+winsock,+wininet,+secur32 is in
attachment.
In Melodyne error I see HTTP error code 12152, and in wine's backtrace I see
the line:
0110:trace:winhttp:read_line returning empty string
According to wine's source code in winhttp/request.c line 2393, it produces
ERROR_WINHTTP_INVALID_SERVER_RESPONSE, which is that exact error code 12152.
Also, the error occurs after Celemony website returns a redirect for first POST
request.
So my guess is that something might be wrong with wine handling the redirect

Still, hopefully that means there's a reasonable way to tweak the patch so it
does not fail at all.

I was trying to run Excel 2007. When removing controls from UserForm we are
prompted with a nice "Not implemented" message box. With a log we see wine
saying stub on 0024:fixme:ole:ICreateTypeInfo2_fnDeleteFuncDesc.
Without this function Excel 2007 cannot remove any controls from a UserForm
I tried winetricks ole32, but instead of fixing the problem it created EVEN
more problems:
- Excel now crashes when trying to repair any document.
- Opening a file always results in Excel complaining file is corrupted.
- When loading Excel, Excel now complains it cannot register the builtin
controls and a wine log shows a lot of UIDs not able to be created.

"MIDISelector"[1] is free, open source software for selecting MIDI device
instead of MIDI mapper applet. However, its configuration doesn't take effect
in Wine.
Regarding its source code, MIDISelector.c:312 included in its archive file, it
updates szPname value under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\MIDIMap
key. While szPname was introduced in Windows XP, Wine still uses old-style
registry settings[2]. So, szPname doesn't take effect on Wine at all.

Summary: vbscript parser error in expression with # char

wine-staging 6.12
I'm using custom forms in Outlook 2007 with VB scripts inside them. Several
forms are not displaying and outlook shows 'error starting expression
processing service' warning message.
There is some output in console about VB script problems:
0100:fixme:vbscript:parse_next_token Unhandled char # in L"#1/1/4501#) and
_\r\n
Item.UserProperties(\"\041e\041f\0440\043e\0441\043c\043e\0442\0440\041a\043e\043c\0443\").Value
then\r\n\t\tItem.UserProperties(\"\041e\041f\0440\043e\0441\043c\043e\0442\0440\041a\043e\043c\0443\0414\0430\0442\0430\").Value
= Date()\r\n\t end if\r"...
0100:fixme:vbscript:parser_error L"#1/1/4501#) and _\r\n
Item.UserProperties(\"\041e\041f\0440\043e\0441\043c\043e\0442\0440\041a\043e\043c\0443\").Value
then\r\n\t\tItem.UserProperties(\"\041e\041f\0440\043e\0441\043c\043e\0442\0440\041a\043e\043c\0443\0414\0430\0442\0430\").Value
= Date()\r\n\t end if\r"...: "syntax error"
There is my full expression in script where error occurs:
Sub Item_CustomPropertyChange(ByVal Name)
if Name="ОПросмотрКому" then
if (Item.UserProperties("ОПросмотрКомуДата").Value=#1/1/4501#)
and _
Item.UserProperties("ОПросмотрКому").Value then
Item.UserProperties("ОПросмотрКомуДата").Value = Date()
end if
elseif Name="ОПросмотрСекрет" then
if (Item.UserProperties("ОПросмотрСекретДата").Value=#1/1/4501#)
and _
Item.UserProperties("ОПросмотрСекрет").Value then
Item.UserProperties("ОПросмотрСекретДата").Value = Date()
end if
elseif (Left(Name,3)="Рез") then
Call RecountPercent()
end if
End Sub
As I suppose there may be an error while parsing DateTime literal #1/1/4501# or
combination of "=#" when there is no space between. Script executes in Windows.

Console output with +seh+trace.
Sims 4 Version: 1.69.59.1020
Using wine's builtin msvcrt causes the game to exit before reaching the title
screen. Attached seh log indicates that the game's python interpreter cannot
initialize the sys standard streams.
Installing vcrun2013 via winetricks is a workaround.

Nexton LC-ScriptEngine is an engine for visual novels. Games using it
(lcsebody.exe) freeze in various places under wine. They don't crash and wine
doesn't give output but using +dsound I discovered there is infinite loop that
happens after freeze.
trace:dsound:DSOUND_PerformMix (0x1381f8)
trace:dsound:DSOUND_MixToPrimary (23808,4160)
trace:dsound:DSOUND_MixToPrimary MixToPrimary for 0x13ebb0, state=0
trace:dsound:DSOUND_MixToPrimary MixToPrimary for 0x1422a0, state=0
If I run "winetricks dsound" these games work and don't crash.
My sound setup is pulseaudio with alsa sink and wine is set to use pulseaudio
in winecfg.

wine fails to build on systems with glibc 2.34 with the following error (full

>From the release notes of glibc 2.34:
* Various rarely-used functions declared in <resolv.h> and
<arpa/nameser.h> have been deprecated. Applications are encouraged to
use dedicated DNS processing libraries if applicable. For <resolv.h>,
this affects the functions dn_count_labels, fp_nquery, fp_query,
fp_resstat, hostalias, loc_aton, loc_ntoa, p_cdname, p_cdnname,
p_class, p_fqname, p_fqnname, p_option, p_query, p_rcode, p_time,
p_type, putlong, putshort, res_hostalias, res_isourserver,
res_nameinquery, res_queriesmatch, res_randomid, sym_ntop, sym_ntos,
sym_ston. For <arpa/nameser.h>, the functions ns_datetosecs,
ns_format_ttl, ns_makecanon, ns_parse_ttl, ns_samedomain, ns_samename,
ns_sprintrr, ns_sprintrrf, ns_subdomain have been deprecated.
* Various symbols previously defined in libresolv have been moved to libc
in order to prepare for libresolv moving entirely into libc (see earlier
entry for merging libraries into libc). The symbols __dn_comp,
__dn_expand, __dn_skipname, __res_dnok, __res_hnok, __res_mailok,
__res_mkquery, __res_nmkquery, __res_nquery, __res_nquerydomain,
__res_nsearch, __res_nsend, __res_ownok, __res_query, __res_querydomain,
__res_search, __res_send formerly in libresolv have been renamed and no
longer have a __ prefix. They are now available in libc.
