Trove is not an XP compatible exe. Normally it should be run from Glyph to have the login credentials, however, since Glyph rarely runs well enough to start trove I had to run it directly. Before you ask, the game isn't directx11 (it actually starts in openGL I believe, it is an SDL2 game). The game is free so it makes for a nice testbed, though you would need a Trion account to test (also free of course). Steps to install trove: - Download GlyphInstaller. - winetricks vcrun2012 - Install Glyph. In glyph install Trove. Exit Glyph. - winecfg, set windows version to Vista. It took me some good hours to debug this out as the error code is internally maintained and propagated through some objects until the C++ exception is finally raised. It specifically looks for 'ISC_RET_SEQUENCE_DETECT' while Wine returned 0x100 ('ISC_REQ_ALLOCATE_MEMORY'). OK, so then I run MS Dynamic GP's trial installer again, expecting it to get past those two known problems and into a new one. Experiencing some difficulties installing Walsalva Wave Pro 2.0 with wine. About the program: Valsalva is a program to analyze breath, more precisely how breath and blood circulation interact. (see here for more details: https://coherentbreathingbiofeedback.com/) The present 2.0 version has been launched in the W7 time-frame. Valsalva runs on about 10.000 computers and is running without issue on XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10, & 11. But not on my "stable" Debian computer (bullseye version) ;) Not aware of having done anything special ;) What can I do ? All help is welcome ! I have only experienced this problem with Serif WebPlus and I am running wine 1.7 and I have deleted my .wine and it re-created, I also tried this on wine1.4 with no success. The missing one seems to belong to WICWmpDecoder which seems to be completely unimplemented. External Message modems. which we will not dwell on here, but WINE is not able to install anything that is half decent to obviate these two problems I used Serif Webplus X2, Now that I have Linux I have to make do with Kompozer. I can't. I tried with a previous WebPlus version as I got a little further - but not much futher: On the Serif WebPlus 10 CD setup all you get is error 1627 That's it. No more information is available as it doesn't give any. Does anyone want to borrow the CD? It was reproducible even in the "winecfg" GUI with no game running. Wine took much longer to start up than normal and it made my whole system lag/stutter while it was running. I finally figured out the problem was with some kernel options that I had set. I was using the new SimpleDRM in the Linux kernel 5.14. I turned off CONFIG_X86_SYSFB, recompiled the kernel, and the problem went away. Interesting, I had not had this problem using Lutris although it's using older 5.x versions of Wine for the games I play but the problem did appear in wine-staging 6.21 so this is a possible regression. I also had no problems running any native games. The setting appears to only cause problems with Wine in specific. Example code HANDLE hUpdate = BeginUpdateResourceA("d:\\test.dll", false); UpdateResourceA(hUpdate, "TEST", "X", 1033, NULL, 0); EndUpdateResourceA(hUpdate, false); I analyzed the code https://github.com/wine-mirror/wine/blob/master/dlls/kernel32/resource.c and I have found the following: `BeginUpdateResourceW` creates a list `list_init( &updates->root );` of type `QUEUEDUPDATES`. The list is empty and stays empty! `check_pe_exe( file, updates )` is called, but the argument `updates` is not used. The list will not be filled with the resources of the EXE file! When `UpdateResource` wants to delete a resource, then `update_add_resource` will not find the existing resource: `find_resource_dir_entry` fails, because the list is empty. So there is nothing to delete. Another side effect of this bug: If I add or modify a resource (it will get added to the queue) and then delete the resource (it will be deleted from the queue), then the resource will stay unchanged in the target file. I think the fix would be that `check_pe_exe` loads all resources into the list (which is then not a "queue" anymore), then the add/delete/change operations are taking place, and in EndUpdateResource, the changes are written (or discarded). -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. I ran into this in the context of bug 5358 (Microsoft Dynamics GP Trial). That app comes with dotnetfx.exe, which fails to install. The problem is a heap corruption or something in our COM implementation, as it fails slightly faster and cleaner with WINEDEBUG=warn+heap, and succeeds with native dcom98. The problem can be reproduced with the .net 1.1 installer downloadable from Microsoft. This has the same md5 signature as the one on the cdrom. Oddly, when I first hit this it took ten seconds, the second time it took half an hour, no idea why the speed difference. I think it might be WINEDEBUG=warn+heap makes it run slow, that's another sign of an uninitialized variable. Here's the script I used to demonstrate the bug. Well, I am under intense deadline pressure and I just spent two days of effort trying to get a client/server app to run that requires unc paths. And finally after a lot of study and banging of head against brick wall, finally I find this bug #425 which makes it pretty darn clear that not only does unc path not work, but it never actually has worked!!!! http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=425 So I ask that you kindly please fix the docs so that others are not subjected to the same levels of tribulations which I have just needlessly gone through. That bug has been open since 2002, I see no indication that it is going to get fixed any time soon. I have a couple of systems with 64-bit KDE neon, based on Ubuntu 20.04. On both of them I have noticed that the wine-devel-6.21:i386 package from the official Wine repository has a hard dependency on mysql-common:i386. It is a virtual package that is not available if one has MariaDB installed, since MariaDB does not provide support for 32 bit systems (see, as an example, here: https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb-support-for-32-bit-systems/).
