I just ran the game with
james@james:~/Wine/Games/Icewind Dale II$ WINEDEBUG=+relay wine IWD2.exe &>
relay_log
There were two surprising things. First, the relay output is at about 200Mb, and
it would take ages to upload something as big as that. It might not be
particularly useful either, considering the size.
Second, the game actually ran with WINEDEBUG=+relay, albeit too slow to be
playable, (probably due to all the stuff it's writing to the relay log). This is
very strange.

Summary: Strange behavior of directory window in this EditPlus
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
URL: ftp://ftp.editplus.com/epp221_en.exe
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P3
Component: wine-ole
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wsun013.wine(a)gmail.com
Hi,
I am using EditPlus through wine, where the trial version of it can be
download from :
ftp://ftp.editplus.com/epp221_en.exe
The installer works all right, and program can be started without any
problem at all.
Just one strange behavior of it, here is the way to reproduce it
1. start editplus
2. view->make sure the "Directory Window" is ticked
3. browse to any directory which contains more than 3 files
here comes the strange part
4. click any file around the mid of files
5. click any file above the file you just chosed -> you will find that
the selection is more like a CTRL+click in win32
6. click any file below the file you just selected ->then it works as
expect, only one file is selected.
4 to 6 can be repeated and recursive.
Expection of ``normal'' behavior:
one file is chosen at a time, unless the CTRL or Shift-like key is
pressed at the same time.
Thanks in advanced,
Will

This Lines are just the Descriptions of the Informations I expected from the
"WINEDEBUG" - Options :-)
Problems Found in this log:
1: EnumPrinter returns 0 Printer, but AddPrinter is called.
We need a better log in wine here.
This must be fixed first.
(The log is not complete. winspool scans the CUPS/LPD-Printers during
the Load of "winspool.drv").
2: PrintDlgExA is a stub
3: NetWkstaGetInfo Level 102 is not supported.
(This function is NT-Only)
4: CoRegisterMessageFilter is a stub.
(The Programm requires OLE-Stuff, that is not implemented yet)
Does "wine notepad" has a printer / is able to print?
Is a Demo for the Programm available for Download?
Can you please try to fill an AppDB-Entry for the Programm?
The other Problems (wrong Printout) are for later.
I have no rights to add the "NoAppDBEntry" - Keyword.

In a case of success IMHO two logs would be preffered:

I grepped the former list of debug channels out from the "dlls/olea*" directory.

My guess may be wrong, but I think the goal of wine devs is to avoid using of
native DLLs at all. So for this reason they are never going to implement such
feature.
But no one stops you or other guy from implementing it. Still, as you can
automate overrides for your application (described in the earlier post), coding
DLL-override-pairing wouldn't be worth the contributed time, which instead can
be used to implement missing features of odbccp32 or oleaut32. :)

Seems I have it solved.
After a hint from the appdb, I modified and ran the regall.bat and installed
Mathcad from CD again over the original install. Now it works. So it seems it
was a problem of not registered dlls.
I think this bug can be closed.

I have just tried the latest CVS (0.9.5+) and it seems that the error is gone,
because closing the game works fine now!
Also no warning/error message related to dsound is displayed anymore
So I think the bug is fixed now - Thanks for all who helped to solve that problem
Now this game really has "Gold" status :o Just the Auto Patcher is still a
problem anything else works fine!

Thank Yor, saulius.
I can say that problem is solved by specifying the native odbc32 and odbccp32 in
DLL overrides, whatever method used to do that.
The only question now is, if we can help Wine somehow to automate. For example,
to help him recognize some DLL-s as DLL pairs, such as odbc32 and odbccp32, so
that if user sets one of them to native, wine would automagically do that for
the second DLL in pair, if user hasn't explicitely said something else.
Such an internal Wine logic could be useful for other DLL pairs too.
What do You think?

This is logfile from printing on LOCAL hpdj printer on financ3 PC.
The printer is correctly recognized by ISS app as default one, and in this
case, printing DOSEN'T lead to "Printer not ready" error as it usually does
(which is what is this bug agout). So, printer surprisingly PRINT, however the
only output is single horizontal line on paper.
Maybe the difference in the behaviour of those machines and printer types can
bring in some idea of what's wrong with Wine and VFP9 printing, why don't they
understand each other..

logfile bz2 other machine (inform10) -changing printer unsucc.
+driver,+profile,+print,+psdrv,+winspool
This is logfile from different machine (inform10) with wine 200504.
Started ISS app, invoked printer dialogue.
Please note, that the default printer in ISS app (Samsung SCX4100) dosen't
match the CUPS default (xerox_230).
Then I attemped to change printer to xerox_230, unsuccesfully (no complaint,
but printer untouched).
It might be connected to the bug somehow. This is the machine where the only
successfull attemp of printing has been ever made with the VFP9 (VFP7 printing
worked well everywhere).
The succesfull attemp has beed done this way:
As today, the default ISS printer has been the SCX. Colegue has REMOVED the
printer in CUPS, then xerox_230 has been correctly automatically recognised by
the ISS app as default printer, and the printing attemp has been successfull.
This experiment we are no more unable to repeat -the Xerox 230 no more enables
in ISS automatically, and doing this manually dosen't work as I report and
document by this logfile.

------- Additional Comments From mike(a)codeweavers.com 2006-11-01 02:30 -------
This one is interesting. Installing requires the windows version set to winxp,
but it fails after that with the error message:
err:msidb:load_string_table string table load failed! (0035e981 != 001ce981)
The following notes are mainly for me, but might be useful to somebody else
trying to understand the format of the MSI string table.
There's a very long string in the string table (more than 0x1a0000 bytes), and I
don't exactly understand the format of the entries that declare it:
str# len%2^16 ref real len
4820 0 1
4821 34523 1 100059
4822 0 1
4823 0 2
4824 0 1
4825 6197 1 1710133
4826 0 0
4827 24 1 24
4828 0 1
4829 34124 1 99660
So we need to calculate "real len" as above...
"str#" is the offset into the table, and I interpret the unsigned short integer
pairs "(len%2^16) ref" as follows:
"n 1" -> a string of n bytes (where n < 2^16)
"0 0" -> a hole in the string table
"0 m", "n 1" -> a string of m*65536+n bytes (should give up to 4G)
"0 k", "0 m", "n 1" -> shouldn't be necessary...
I'm still not sure how a "0 n" followed by "0 m" is meant to be interpreted.
Looking at the actual size of the string, it seems like it will increase the
length of the next string by 0xa00000*m + 0x10000*n ... though I probably need
to write some tests to confirm this.

Summary: PowerPoint 2000 deadlocks when opening file with preview

OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED

ReportedBy: cihan(a)uq.edu.au
More specifically, the preview has to have an image on it that is at least 90x90
pixels large. As most presentations have a background image this is nearly
always the case.
How to reproduce:
- Start PowerPoint 2000 and load a file that contains a preview as described OR
run PowerPoint directly with the file as argument.
- Wait some seconds => deadlock
This doesn't happen when keeping PowerPoint busy, ie. by switching through the
slides fast enough. In fact, it is possible to open the file, remove the
preview, save and have it working.
Here's a trace output (I included some more trace messages in the source files):

Adds the IE6 version to the registry.
This patch makes IE6 appear to be installed, and allows turbo lister install to

Trying to get serial ports working in Wine but no ports show up.
I can run minicom and talk to the serial device. This tells me that the port is

I added the port acording to the directions
ln -s /dev/ttyUSB0 ~/.wine/dosdevices/com1
I also tried /dev/ttyS0 and got the same results.
I could not get my custom serail program to find any com ports so I ran

If I do an strace and grep for dosdevices Wine only attempts to open the drive

I don't know if this is a bug but I don't think I am doing anything wrong.

Just tried the installer again with current cvs, but there's still a bug . The
installer now ends with a message box Unhandled exception: Error Number 0x80010105
Setup will now terminate.

I just noticed something interesting. Half-Life 2 was updating in Steam when I
had a look, it has probably done this for some time..
Once I turned off auto-update for Half-Life 2 in steam CPU load went from
95-100% to normal.
Once the update for Half-Life 2 was done. CPU usage went down during several
minutes, but once I started a game (Counter-Strike 1.6) CPU usage again went up
again.
I think Valve has done some kinda of change in the network code for Steam. As
everything is OK when running in offline mode. It's probably a good guess. It
would make sense of what I was seing aswell, when Steam was talking to the
Network, everything was freezed up, once it did not, everything was fine.
I tested to refresh the server list, just running Steam, and I CPU went up to
100% within a couple of seconds every time, once I stopped the serverlist
refresh, CPU went back to normal.
I managed to minimized freezing by turning off auto-updates on the games and
shutting off auto-fetch on gaming-news/update info. But it's stil unplayable.

Jonathan, I think you can download DCProof from bug 4058 if you
want to see this in action.

If the printer, visible in app as default, is NOT the CUPS default one, then if
I am able to change the printer in ISS app, and the printer VISIBLY changes in
ISS app, then printing works. Unfortunately, usually if I even attemp to change
the printer, it dosen't visually change in printer column and printing dosen't work.
Might it be that some variable (or set of variables) is incorrectly filled after
start, and then if it is manually changed (and the immediate visibility of
change in the ISS app indicates the change was done correctly), then it means
that variables are set correctly now and thus printing works?

The behaviour depends. Sometimes the ISS uses the printer which isn't set
default under CUPS. Even if set manually in ISS, dosen't print.

OK, doing the following avoids the win2k/9x installer complaining about being
"currently unable to detect available updates":
cd path-to-setup_wm.exe (this is the installer in the extracted package -
probably works with the packaged installer)
mkdir -p %SystemRoot%/system32
cp ~/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/system32/msxml.dll %SystemRoot%/system32
wine setup_wm.exe
But it crashes at 55% completion ("performing post-setup operations"):
fixme:advapi:ParseStringSidToSid String constant not supported: L"BU"...
fixme:advapi:SetNamedSecurityInfoW L"c:\\windows\\profiles\\All
Users\\Application Data\\Microsoft\\Media Index" 1 536870916 (nil) (nil)
0x7fdda3bc (nil)
err:heap:GlobalFree page fault occurred ! Caused by bug ?
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x00000004 at address 0x7bebe140
(thread 0015), starting debugger...
I'll try with a native advapi32 later.

Running the Win2k/9x installer under wine 0.9.5 with no MSIE install, I get:
warn:file:wine_nt_to_unix_file_name
L"%SystemRoot%\\system32\\%SystemRoot%\\system32\\msxml.dll" not found
in /home/xyz/.wine/dosdevices/c:/wmp
warn:file:wine_nt_to_unix_file_name L"%SystemRoot%\\system32\\msxml.dll" not
found in /home/xyz/.wine/dosdevices/c:/wmp
warn:file:wine_nt_to_unix_file_name L"%SystemRoot%\\system32\\msxml.dll" not
found in /home/xyz/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/system32
...etc.
I've manually installed msxml.dll as suggested at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=272633
- it looks like it's looking for a file with a local path literally
"%SystemRoot%\\system32\\msxml.dll" instead of substituting the variable to
get "C:\\windows\\system32\\msxml.dll"?
