That sounds like a Picasa bug, not a Wine bug...
unless you're saying Wine should come with Ariel
installed by default!

Picasa crashes if Arial truetype font (or a substitution) is not installed

Latest Picasa build (2.1.0 27.66) expects Arial font installed by default, it
calls GetGlyphOutline on it, it fails but Picasa doesn't check return code and
crashes trying to interpret the data.
Futher investigation has shown that my system doesn't have fontconfig installed
and therefore it can't find .ttf fonts (even if they are installed in the system).
Once Wine finds a .ttf font (via fontconfig or in windows/fonts) it substitutes
Arial and GetGlyphOutline succeeds, which avoids the crash.

Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.5.
Platform: PC

Albert Heijn, a large supermarket chains in the Netherlands, offers a popular
printing service for digital photographs. For use with this service, the company
offers a native Windows programs for preparing and sending an order.
The software can be downloaded here:
http://www.ah.nl/fotoservice/client_details.jsp. I have done my tests with the
package offered for Windows 2000. The installer package is called
"ahFotoservice2.exe".
Installation seems to go fine with wine 9.5. Icons for starting the software
appear on the desktop and the start menu on Suse 10.0 with KDE 3.5.
The software also starts successfully. A window opens. The action we want is
"Foto's Bestellen" (order pictures). When we click on this button, we are able
to browse the directory structure. But, alas, no image previews are shown in the
right pane. Hence, no images can be selected.
I will add the output captured from wine to this report. There are a number of
"fixmes", but I do not know what might be related to the missing images.
If my wife could use this software, she would be very pleased.

Oni users report crashes on Windows systems [1] that seem very similar to one
reported here. Moreover, the original report says that it also crashes on
Windows XP.
Also note that this is on a AMD64 machine running a 64 bit kernel, and Oni is a
32 bit app. So in this case you have to run 32 bit Wine in a 32 bit chroot on a
fully 64 bit environment. This means problems.
Is it even possible to run Oni on AMD64 in Windows?

Hm, I suspect that even in the documentation/PACKAGING, there is missing a
mention about need for Fontforge! Without this package, some needful fonts are
missing in compiled Wine!
Please, anybody competent, add the mention about Fontforge to the PACKAGING file.

too small
- program window is full screen width and more than full screen height
- clicking 'restore screen' button for file window gets smaller window that
looks dramatically better then program window can be resized to match but this
configuration is not saved on exit. Window sizes and location should be written
to the registry.

Well, the author of the patch, Alexandre Julliard, says it is probably matter of
fonts -they should take place in /usr/local/share/fonts/wine after make install.
However, they dosen't for me. Now I'm trying to figure out, why.

Yes, they are standard developement packages. I don't need to see them
particularly named in the Guide. I just think they should be _slightly_
emphasized, by some statement of this shape:
"Even many key aspects of program's functionality may depend on properly
installed developement packages. Please, watch the .configure process carefully
if You want to use printer, play sounds or music or do some other advanced
things with Your Windows apps. Please, read the documentation/PACKAGING file in
Your source tree, section DEVELOPEMENT, to learn more about the possibly needed
libraries."
If You like the formulation, please use it freely, modified or not, in the
User's Guide.
Unfortunately, we DID use prebuilt packages (200504 or 200503 distributional),
can't use them any longer however:
1, there are dependency problems in Debian with newer prebuilt packages
2, because of problems with our crucial app, we must be able to use the top
notch version of Wine as soon as the needed patch arrives.

It calls glXMakeCurrent with win==0 (and ctx!=NULL) in

failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)" (correct, at least

).
So i guess the problem is that GetPropA( whichHWND, "__wine_x11_whole_window" );
(earlier in the same function) returns 0 . But i have no idea what to do now to
find or fix the problem.

These are the standard "*nix development" things that you should know from othre
sources. Like why do you need *-devel | *-dev packagees. You can actually read
information contained in those packages that say what they are for.
Also it is impossible to account for each distribution out there. Some have 1
package some have 10. And all called something different. And it makes no sence
to include all the possible dependancies in the user manual. Website is more
complicated to change then README files included in the source tree.
As far as requirements go, Wine tries not to make _hard_ dependancies on
libraries that might not exist on all systems.
I personally don't see anything here that needs to be fixed.
And last thing, users should not compile Wine from source but rather use
packages provided by maintainers.

Using trace I can see it goes through various activities, and I suspect my
audio configuration is at fault although I have no idea why

I have a multi-edit selection problem in a list in Origin; using Wine's regedit
(which has also a multi-select listview) this does not occure.
In Origin this is a pretty normal list (one column, no header). Under Windows a
click (w/o ctrl/shift simply selects one item; Under Wine it looks ok if you
click once. Or if you click on an item below the currently selected one.
But if you click upwards, it behaves as if you have had pressed "ctrl".
If you click then a lower item (above the lowest), it de-selects all above the
current one.
I tried WINEDEBUG=+listview, but seemingly this is not the right debug channel.
Any ideas?

Well, from that section, I would be still not wise enough to know, that "CUPS
library" means libcupsys2-dev (developement package). I would assume that
libcupsys should be enough.
The description for other services is the same problem for me -Do I need
developement libraries of all of them to make them work?
It should be stated clearly, that it is DEVELOPEMENT libraries what we need. And
there should be still mention in Wine User's guide, that to enable the
particular services (CUPS, ALSA,...) one must look into the
documentation/PACKAGING, section DEVELOPEMENT, to find out, what libraries
should take place before compilation.
You know, those things can be totally clear for developers, but for the user
they aren't. I have compiled some applications from source before, but without
clear explanation in some visible place of README, I wouldn't know, what else I
do need to accomplish.

too get the "splash screen" with the tabs ((About, Restrictions, Purchase,

use current cvs? (I do). BTW Another way to get the dialogbox before the
splashscreen is to uncheck the checkbox "Allow the windowmanager to control

(no virtual Desktop) You might try if it changes something (but i doubt))

Add floatint point texture formats
I don't know if this is going to help, but please try the attached patch. The
patch was made against wine-0.9.5. I haven't tested it at all, but it may
allow you to get a little farther. This is really a semi-hack, so unless it
helps you out, I don't plan on submitting it to wine-patches.

Try setting the windows version to emulate to 98 (Wine now defaults to windows
2000) so that may be the change.

Hi You-Cheng,
If this is a regression, please try a regression analysis as described by:
http://winehq.org/site/docs/winedev-guide/x1344
or using git (on the wine Wiki's GITWine page).
You might want to check that you weren't using a comctl32 from windows before
you start doing that.
thanks

Summary: _tempnam does not check for the environment variable TMP
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.5.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: wine-files
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: sascha93101(a)yahoo.com
_tempnam should follow the rules described here:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hs3e7355.aspx
When the Microsoft linker links an executable using a resource file, it calls
_tempnam to get a name for a temporary files. Since TMP is ignored, the linker
gets back the name "/lnk**.tmp". In most cases, the user running linker doesn't
and shouldn't have write permissions in the root directory, and the linker
fails.
The fixed code is here:
char *_tempnam(const char *dir, const char *prefix)
{
char tmpbuf[MAX_PATH];
char save_TMP[MAX_PATH];
const char *tmp_dir = dir;
if (GetEnvironmentVariableA("TMP",save_TMP,sizeof(save_TMP)))
{
tmp_dir = save_TMP;
}
TRACE("dir (%s) prefix (%s)\n",tmp_dir,prefix);
if (GetTempFileNameA(tmp_dir,prefix,0,tmpbuf))
{
TRACE("got name (%s)\n",tmpbuf);
DeleteFileA(tmpbuf);
return _strdup(tmpbuf);
}
TRACE("failed (%ld)\n",GetLastError());
return NULL;
}
I'll send it to wine-patches(a)winehq.org too.
Also, http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1652 could be another
manifestation of this bug.

Since I'm having so much trouble with the Reaktor 5 demo I decided to pull back
to the original CD of Reaktor / Reaktor Session that I originally posted this
thread about. The install again worked, as it did with other versions of Wine,
but with the recent CVS version of Wine I now get an error dialog box stating
'Error WK1117 - WBUKEY.SYS not installed' when I try to run Reaktor Session.
Presumably this is something Reaktor is used to seeing and for whatever reason
is there on earlier versions of Wine but is no longer there. Why?
Anyway, I'll work on the Reaktor 5 demo and see if we can get it working and
then upgrade to Reaktor 5 when we get there. (I hope!)

Try updating to the latest CVS version and test with that. OLE is improving
quickly, and didn't work a few weeks ago may work now.

OK, I tried setting it up in a virtual desktop. Now the splash screen I'm seeing
is at least not stuck on all four Gnome work spaces. That's an improvement.
However I am now seeing two splash screens. One splash screen is stuck at the
front of my virtual desktop. There is a second splash screen with some tabs
(About, Restrictions, Purchase, Support, Various) that was in back but I can
bring it to the front of the other splash screen. I Cannot find an easy way to
dismiss this other than hit the small 'x' in the upper right. When I do that I
get a black virtual desktop for about 3 second and then the whole thing goes
away and I'm back in the terminal.
Thanks for the hint on the virtual desktop. That seems helpful. I did not get
any messages about setting up audio. To be very sure I completely erased my
.wine directory and reinstalled from scratch. No messages like that. I tried
running winecfg and setting an audio driver. That didn't seem to help either. I
still get two splash screens, and when I dismiss the one the whole app goes away.

Running both programs with oleaut32=n (the only native DLL used) both programs
start up and create their component (electronics components) files and wait for
user input. Didn't try to use them to see how they behave.
With builtin oleaut32 i have done a +variant trace and the "runtime error" is
more than probably due to this call:
trace:variant:VariantChangeTypeEx
(0x7e336808->(VT_ERROR),0x7fa0f790->(VT_ERROR),0x00000400,0x0000,VT_VARIANT).
VariantChangeTypeEx correctly sanctions this with a 0x80020005 aka
DISP_E_TYPEMISMATCH.
Now the question is why 0x7fa0f790 variant is a VT_ERROR. Nothing in the
+variant trace. I'll have to dig deeper into this.

Can you please retest with latest CVS? I reimplemented VarCmp()
(http://source.winehq.org/git/?p=wine.git;a=commit;h=f73b68b0169bc8b53993329…)
the most probable cause of the "Automation error".
The line
fixme:variant:VarCmp VarCmp partial implementation, doesn't support vt 0x8 / 0x2
was the hint. VarCmp() supports now all input variants that WinXP supports too.
