The team at Bridge Base Online have addressed some the incompatibilities with wine in their latest release. From personal experience and online reports I know that their fixes work with wine at least as early as 20050725 and also work with 0.9. >From what I understand the information below only applies to the current beta test software. In the future the standard version downloaded from BBO will have these changes rolled in. You can get more about running BBO on linux at the BBO forum: http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?s=8cac7ad0e101a86c0d2d9acf5aa457f3&s… Here's an excerpt from the forum, a short HOWTO from Pierre Couzy (pico on BBO): HowTo : install bbo on linux 1/ Go to www.winehq.com and download wine if you don't have it on your system already. 2/ Grab a copy of Symbol.ttf. You'll need this font to properly display the suit symbols. Copy it in /usr/share/fonts/truetype/symbol (you'll have to manually create the symbol folder) 3/ Download bbo_setup.exe (http://www.bridgebase.com/450beta/bbo450_setup.exe as the time of writing, but I guess the normal version will work pretty soon) 4/ Launch a terminal and type : wine bbo_setup.exe (bbo450_setup.exe if you're using the beta version). This will launch the installer. Proceed as if you were installing under Windows. 5/ Grab the patched executable (again, this step might be useless in the next version of bbo) at http://www.bridgebase.com/450beta/LinuxNetBridgeVue.zip Unpack it, you'll get an executable file, copy it to ~/.wine/drive_c/Bridge\ Base\ Online 6/ Launch the executable from a shell : wine NetBridgeVu.exe (or LinuxNetBridgeVue.exe for the next weeks). In case you don't find the executable, it's located in ~/.wine/drive_c/WhateverFolderYouUsedForTheInstall 7/ You're done. Caveat : Monitor the free memory on your system when playing, you might have to quit and re-launch bbo from time to time, there are some memory leaks probably due to Wine. On my machine (PIII 700, 384 Mo, Ubuntu) I have to do this about every hour. I know that Wine tries to be smart, guessing what settings would be best, but that's usually neither needed nor wanted. That's why there is a config file for stuff like that. Wine simply stands out, because it renders fonts in a completely different fashion compared to all native apps (eg, I use medium hinting, no sub-pixel hinting and anti-aliasing for native apps, but Wine only uses hinting). Even if it would respect those setting, Wine would still look odd, because the font size doesn't match at all, but I think that's a different bug/ issue (for Qt/ KDE, GTK2, Fox, Java, Enlightenment and Wx, font size 9 is the same - for Wine, it's much smaller, about 30% I'd say). I changed it manually in the /ntdll/Makefile to -O1 , recompiled ntdll.dll.so, reinstalled it, and now the bug is gone. For me, it's in "C:\Program Files\AR System\HOME" which points to "/mnt/hdb1/wine_c_drive/Program\ Files/AR\ System/HOME/" I tried creating a new directory in my Wine C: drive and pointing Remedy at that for the "home" directory. No dice, same error no matter where the HOME directory is. I thought it might be the whitespace in the path names, so i actually created a directory called "C:\HOME" and it still didn't work. Hi, Yesterday, after having manually closed some old fixed bugs, I discussed with infyquest and tlambregts on irc and tlambregts told us that instead of manually closing the bugs, bugzilla had a "change several bugs at once function" It was then discussed that bugs that are FIXED and where resolution is not LATER or DUPLICATE or REMIND should be marked CLOSED as the fixes have been integrated in an official release (namely 0.9). http://bugs.winehq.org/buglist.cgi?query_format=&short_desc_type=allwordssu… FYI the CLOSED status means: The bug is considered dead, the resolution is correct. Any zombie bugs who choose to walk the earth again must do so by becoming REOPENED. Unfortunately bugzilla doesn't allow to close bugs directly from their fixed state so you have to verify them before and thus it will send two mails for each bug closed. I don't think it was possible to turn off change notification at that time (tlambregts even told me that the two spam bugs were normal because of the way bugzilla works) but I cannot verify it as my account has been gently disabled... However it seems that ivanleo didn't like my CLOSING session because some of the bugs were not "fixed". Can someone tell me how a bug can be not fixed and marked as resolved-fixed (see my query) ? The discussion on IRC took place at a time when there were many of you (vitamin, Thunderbird, kbln, infyquest, _Marcus_, tlambregts, cmorgan and so on) and nobody seemed to think it would be a bad idea to close bugs that were fixed before the latest release came out. There is a problem with Office 95 now with the same ODBC driver. I think its the same reason why the MDAC installer on Microsoft.com (requires WPA!) failes as well.
