Tested this with v0.9; I presume it's still the case with CVS version.
Indeed a problem in comctl code; using custom win32 comctl fixes the problem.
However it has some side-effects (Win98 mode with comctl32 (native) (size
569616, File Version 5.81.4704.1100):
1. The opendialog has ugly black-backgrounded icons
2. When I hover over an item that doesn't fit, I get a tooltip, but after that I
cannot click on the item anymore, the tooltip 'remains in front of it'
3. There is no tooltip for the status bars (channel + bottom (filelist)).

I checked again with 20050930 and the problem is still there in unmodified form.
As soon as the game tries to reinit its video subsystem, it fails.
Regarding more information: please let me know what you need. All I can tell you
is when and how it fails, the actual messages of the game (or the debug output I
tried so far) don't give any more clues either. I tried WINEDEBUG=+opengl, which
created 28MB of output file, but the end of that log isn't exactly enlightening:
trace:opengl:wglMakeCurrent ((nil),(nil))
trace:opengl:wglMakeCurrent returning True
trace:opengl:wglDeleteContext (0x40369138)
If you can tell me what debug output to post, I'll do it pronto.
BTW, I just noticed that BUG#3099 also applies to SoF2. I really hope this can
be sorted out soon (maybe it's just lack of documentation).

Output of +module,+file
This is the output created with +module,+file. For the +loaddll output see the
other attachment. Note that e2_d3d8_driver_mfc.dll comes with MP and is also
found correctly, but the game appears to insist in loading the d3d8 DLL from
the filesystem "manually" (so to speak). I experimented putting a real d3d8.dll
where Wine could see it, but that only caused other errors; it may work if you
managed to install a functioning _native_ DirectX/D3D setup...
Let me know if you need other output logs or anything else that might help you
in tracking down this problem.

Vitaliy, if Wine cannot load 'c:\Program Files\Irrational Games\Freedom
Force\Sound.dll' by default when 'c:\windows\system32\Sound.dll' is present,
then that's a bug, I guess.
I did not do any tests, but maybe I will. It would be nice to have
ntdll_test.exe to extract some temporary DLL named as one of the systems DLLs
to the working directory and try loading it.
Anyway, is there still any 16-bit app using system Sound.dll ?

Can you try setting WINEDEBUG=+module,+file env-variable, rerunning the game and
posting Wines output? Two channels may give superfluous data, but I am not sure
about this. Maybe you should start with WINEDEBUG=+loaddll only. Keeps us
informed. :)

Created an attachment (id=1232)

WINEDEBUG=+module,+file
Thanks. BTW, adding file descriptor switch "2>&1" before a pipe sign (or after
normal redirect instruction) works for me well. Combined redirection
instruction should work also ">&" or "&>" in Bash shell. Maybe you're using
different one.
This part of output seems most interesting to me:
| trace:module:MODULE_GetLoadOrderW got hardcoded default "b,n" for
L"C:\\...\\Sound.dll"
| trace:module:load_dll Trying built-in L"C:\\...\\Sound.dll"
| warn:module:load_dll Failed to load module L"Sound.dll"; status=c000007b
Oops. It seems the error code was already in your previous report. So my
suggestion was inappropriate. Greping:
$ grep -iIr c000007b include/
| include/ntstatus.h:#define STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_FORMAT 0xC000007B
Reading code in dlls/ntdll/loader.c gives that Wine tries to load builtin which
already should be loaded:
/* The constructor wasn't called, this means the .so is already
* loaded under a different name. We can't support multiple names
* for the same module, so return an error. */
Going next:
$ locate -i sound.dll | grep wine
| /mnt/antras/usr/src/wine-cvs/wine/dlls/dsound/dsound.dll.dbg.c
| /mnt/antras/usr/src/wine-cvs/wine/dlls/dsound/dsound.dll.so
| /mnt/antras/usr/src/wine-cvs/wine/dlls/sound.dll.so
| /mnt/antras/usr/src/wine-cvs/wine/dlls/dsound.dll.so
$ ll /mnt/antras/usr/src/wine-cvs/wine/dlls/sound.dll.so
| lrwxrwxrwx 1 s2 s2 12 Oct 7 00:59
/mnt/antras/usr/src/wine-cvs/wine/dlls/sound.dll.so -> winmm.dll.so
Yaiy. :)
Wine presents Sound.DLL as an alias name (synonym) for WinMM.DLL. IOW, that is
naming conflict between system (builtin) "wine/dlls/sound.dll.so" and
and yours (native) "/home/rich/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Program Files/Irrational
Games/Freedom Force/Sound.dll".
I don't understand, whether this is a bug, but if yes then it's likely one of
category WONTFIX or LATER.
I'd try setting WINEDLLOVERRIDES='Sound=n' env-var or as a last measure
removimg this symbolic link 'sound.dll.so -> winmm.dll.so' from your
system/box.

Ran with native msvcrt (see bug 3652) it spits out a million of these lines, and
the screen is black:
fixme:d3d_surface:IDirect3DSurface8Impl_UnlockRect Unsupported Format 22 in
locking func
I added these lines just before the fixme in dlls/d3d8/surface.c
case 22:// just copied this from case D3DFMT_A8R8G8B8 above
{
glPixelStorei(GL_PACK_SWAP_BYTES, TRUE);
vcheckGLcall("glPixelStorei");
glDrawPixels(This->lockedRect.right - This->lockedRect.left,
(This->lockedRect.bottom - This->lockedRect.top)-1,
GL_BGRA, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, This->allocatedMemory);
vcheckGLcall("glDrawPixels");
glPixelStorei(GL_PACK_SWAP_BYTES, prev_store);
vcheckGLcall("glPixelStorei");
}
break;
Now i can actually see the intro. I know this is just an awfull an incorrect
hack, maybe someone who understands the code can fix this bug. The bug that
really prevents the demo from working is a sound issue, which i'll file
separately later

Hi, i would like to run the demo of this game from
http://downloads.gamezone.com/demos/d7133.htm.
Seems to have quite some bugs, but i'll file them as seperate bugs.
Installation is fine, but when trying to run it, it just says this:
[root@h202188 ~]# wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Ubi\ Soft/Splinter\ Ce
ll\ Demo/system/SplinterCell.exe
fixme:process:GetProcessWorkingSetSize (0xffffffff,0x7fa5e3a4,0x7fa5e3a0): stub
wine: Unhandled exception (thread 0009), starting debugger...
Can't attach process 8: error 5
That's it. I tried to run it using winedbg but didn't give futher useful
information. When run with native msvcrt it proceeds (but then hangs due to
another bug i'll file seperately). Any hints on how to debug this further?

The aiming speed is still a bit slower with Wine as compared to Win2k at the

percent). So maybe some movement information is still lost.
But it seems very constant now, so it's not really a problem.

i've also seen this bug on fc3.
strange you don't seem to suffer from it.
i'm actually looking at it right now on ubuntu 5.10 with Wine 20050725 and ep
v2.20 :(
the problem is that the bug doesnt minifest itself every time.. it seems random
but a file of lets say 10KB or bigger usually does the trick. (setting passive
mode or not doesn't seem to matter.)
there is one thing i noticed,
in the past this bug made edit plus hang but now you still can press the cancel
button and precisely after 10 seconds edit plus tells me "Cancelled by user".
after that every thing seems fine again but edit plus thinks it didn't upload
the file, although it did.
so it always uploads the file intact and then hangs so something is going wrong
communicating with the ftp server which is in this case proftp.
my guess is that editplus/wine (i have no clue how wine handles/translates this
internally) fails to send the FIN after upload or fails to receive the ftp
servers returning ACK...

Our client/server application MacroPhone uses Mailslots to broadcast some
information from the clients to the server. To broadcast a message, we are using
::CreateFile() with a mailslot name "\\*\\MAILSLOT\\MPHONSR4", which constantly
fails. Looking into the source reveals that a "open_mailslot" command is sent to
the server, which returns with some kind of "file not found". This is maybe the
correct handling for local mailslots, but propably not for a * in the mailslot
name which stands for broadcasting.
Please let me know if more information is needed...

Summary: Photoshop 6.0 running - but with Installation & Running
Bug
Product: Wine
Version: 20050930
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: test
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: olivnoel(a)gaussschule-bs.de
I installed Photoshop on Ubuntu 5.10. At First, I deactivated all programme
extensions like Helpers, Filters etc.
When I then started it, Photoshop crashed. I read the terminal, which told me
that Photoshop could not initialize the programme windows like these for the
layers and the colour adjustments, which are on the right side at the first
start after installation
After that I tried to install Photoshop again, but this time, I installed the
extensions.
When starting the programme now, it worked. I could open files, and use all tool
and filters.
Also the adjustment windows worked, but when I tried to CHANGE THEIR HEIGHT,
Photoshop totally crashed.
I think there is a bug in wine that photoshop's programme windows are not
totally supported.
Although, the window with the tools always worked without any problems.

It's the introduction of a mostly stubbed odbccp32 dll that broke
this installer. I've created a patch that implements SQLInstallDriverManager
so you should be able to get further along in this installation. Can you
try it? Patch is at:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2005-October/021484.html
As a workaround you could try WINEDLLOVERRIDES=odbccp32=n ./MDAC_TYP.EXE

To get Metatrader 4 running:
1) Download and install IE6 with sidenet wine configuaruration utility. HOWTO is
here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wine
2) Run Metatrader4 setup under wine.
After these steps you should get it running, just with 3 known problems which
need to get solved due unknown bugs/hacks in wine code for me:
Problem #1 - You will see no menu/toolbars icons and no label text on it,only
description in bottom of window.
Problem #2 - when you atach custom indicator in Metatrader, indicator "Input"
parameters window shows parameters but those parameters cannot be edited. In
Winx it's editor boxes which do not work under wine for unknown reason.
Problem #3 - when you open and edit indicator/expert, help about MQL4 functions,
etc do not work, - you can select needed item in help window list but you get
empty help window in bottom(in winx it shows help text in formated html about
selected item)
If someone would take and handle those problems with submiting wine patches, it
would be great to get running that trading platform in Linux/*BSD... :-)

please let us know wat is the appliction you are using? so that we can test.
These are just warning messages that a specific function is not implemented.
These can ignored unless they are crashing your app ;) :P

Okay, so apparently it was built with tracing disabled.
Oddly enough, for some reason piping output into anything isn't working, not
even to wc. Did it manually, ~1500 lines.

I built it myself, so I'm quite sure --disable-trace isn't in it.
I'll rebuild anyway, and post the results in 20 minutes or less.
