Hi and thank you for your reply.
Now, how about these files: system.reg userdef.reg user.reg
Are they not the config files for wine?
I am looking for wine settings and not windows settings. regedit is for windows
right? or also for wine?
I am asking this because winecfg is not storing my settings properly. So, I want
to try to make these changes manually. Is it possible? Is still regedit that I
have to use? (If so, howot)
Thank you for the clarification.

------- Additional Comments From lod(a)infaze.com.au 2005-08-10 09:37 -------
Using: Wine 20050830
I tried running the setup command normally, 'wine setup.exe'
It dies with an InstallShield error during the "Configuring windows installer"
stage, 1608: Unable to create InstallDriver instance. Wine produces the
following errors,
err:ole:proxy_manager_create_ifproxy Could not get IPSFactoryBuffer for
interface {00000131-0000-0000-c000-000000000046}, error 0x80040155
err:ole:CoUnmarshalInterface IMarshal::UnmarshalInterface failed, 0x80040155
Running with the frankscorner workaround used in the earlier report causes the
installer to die at the same point. Wine then attempts to launch the debugger
but it doesn't seem to be able to start. The following error is produced after
I ctrl-c the attempt to load the debugger.
err:seh:EXC_DefaultHandling Unhandled exception code c000013a flags 0 addr
0xb7f6f336
I also experimented in setting, WINEDEBUG="warn+all" wine without producing any
extra information. Attempting to use winedbg was unsucessful as it exited in
wine_switch_to_stack before the installshield program started.

Summary: [TAB] turns radion button into a push button.
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-user
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mike(a)codeweavers.com
The attached test program (child.zip), also available at
foghorn:/home/mike/child.zip shows a bug in Wine's user32.
Run the test program in child/Debug/child.exe and press [Tab]. This should tab
onto the radio button and make it default. I've checked that under Windows, and
it works like that, however under Wine, pressing [Tab] will change the radio
button into a Button.

To: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Subject: Re: [Bug 2737] Poser 4 does not show the labels for controls = font
problem?
Reply-To: wine-devel(a)winehq.org
(Background: Poser 4 installed with wine 2005-02-11. It works, with
exception of font bugs as described.)
I've just tried wine 20050930. When run without modification ['cd
$POSER_DIR; wine Poser.exe'], the program no longer works. I see the
splash screen, and the typical initialization reports, but shortly
after, the window disappears. This is what's left on the command line:
err:module:import_dll Library MSVCIRT.dll (which is needed by
L"C:\\Program Files\\MetaCreations\\Poser
4\\Runtime\\Plugins\\FFMS.arp") not found
err:seh:EXC_DefaultHandling Exception frame is not in stack limits =>
unable to dispatch exception.
If I copy the MSVCIRT.dll from my Win2k system32 directory into the
Poser directory, and run it again (as above), I see the splash screen as
before; and a few more initialization messages than before. But the
window still disappears. I get the following:
wine: Unhandled exception (thread 0023), starting debugger...
(The debugger doesn't start, I just get dumped back to the command line.
The thread number changes each time.)
Running 'winedbg Poser.exe' yields the following. (Note that I still
have MSVCIRT.dll in the program directory. Program behaviour matches the
previous test.)

Hm... further investigation shows that event 0x0018 (WM_SHOWWINDOW) is delegated
down through the DefDlgProc to DefWindowDlgProc, where it is blocked.
First, it returns 0 here:
if (!lParam) return 0; /* sent from ShowWindow */
If that part is commented out, it returns here:
if (wParam)
{
if (!(pWnd->flags & WIN_NEEDS_SHOW_OWNEDPOPUP))
{
WIN_ReleasePtr( pWnd );
return 0;
}
pWnd->flags &= ~WIN_NEEDS_SHOW_OWNEDPOPUP;
}
If I comment that out too, it tries to process event 0x0018 a whole bunch of
times, but it still doesn't work.

I'm not sure about that - I get no messages when I enable shdocvw trace.
Additionally, running with native doesn't seem to make a difference. I think in
my case it crashes before it gets to that point.
Note that I already have Steam installed (with account set up), and this is just
getting it to run, unlike other people which are having trouble getting it to
install, and trouble with the EULA...

Hi,
Downloading d3dx9 from Microsoft requires passing a version check of the OS. I
don't have Microsoft Windows installed - even if downloaded successfully, the
SDK installer will fail, so I am having trouble obtaining that dll to run the
test you suggested.
However, I've done some more testing, and discovered that the crash occurs here:
> /* Create the hw shader */
> /* TODO: change to resource.glObjectHandel or something like that */
> GL_EXTCALL(glGenProgramsARB(1, &This->prgId));
in this function:
IWineD3DVertexShaderImpl_GenerateProgramArbHW(IWineD3DVertexShader *iface, CONST
DWORD* pFunction)

Someone has to fix the issue you reported. As to know where the settings are
stored, they are stored in the registry which can be edited using regedit or by
opening ~/.wine/*.reg.

If you have a printer working under linux it should work under wine, same goes
for the sound. But this is not related to this bug report.

A workaround is to edit the spdx9_config.txt in the Drivers directory of DoW,
and remove anything below the 3dfx line and edit the rest according to the
comments on your card. You probably want to leave in the 'begin vendor...
configfile nvidia/ati.txt'. I'm hardly qualified to say so, but I think it might
be a problem with detecting the video card, since it works if it doesn't need to
choose.
While the game works this way, the configurator stops complaining but can't
display a preview, and crashes. And the game asks to send a bug report whenever
I quit.

I also noticed that and it's highly annoying that the documented configuration
approach is obsolete and the active one is undocumented. Please remedy ASAP.
Also please include the documentation in the source tarball again (as in
earlier versions), a link to some online docs (outdated or not) is really no
substitute.

Just tried it again with 20050930 and it still fails with basically the same
error. The special issue with this game appears to be that it always tries to
load the DLL from the filing system and barfs if it doesn't find it. I remember
putting a d3d8.dll in the filing system at one point which caused it to run
further, but then it failed at some direct draw call I couldn't figure out. My
guess is that people who got this working copied a functioning direct draw /
d3d8 setup into their filespace. I'd be interested if anyone could give me hints
on how to get this game working, with or without native d3d8.

Works well out of the box for me on Wine 20050930.
It occasionally seemed to lock up when I tried to open a post. Although the
mouse didn't do anything, the app was still repainting the screen. I hit ESC,
and everything was back to normal.
There are small graphical glitches like garbage at the bottom of the screen
(known MDI problem) failure to appear in the task bar, and missing max/min
buttons (known Delphi problems).
You must save attachments to see them -- if you want inline pictures you will
have to install native dcom98 & riched20

Just tested the Google Earth installer, and it worked fine for me (except it
complained about not finding psapi.dll for me also, this wasn't fatal
however). Google Earth itself does not seem to run though.

Summary: Unable to perform some changes to winecfg
Product: Wine
Version: 20050830
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-console
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: I-SAngeli(a)siriush.com
Hi,
I run winecfg and have added a new application with custom .dll files.
I have also set the Graphics to Emulate a virtual desktop (this because
otherwhise it will not run properly).
Now, I wanted to remove the application from Applications folder so that it
would fall under Default. I can do so, hit Apply but the next time I load
winecfg it is back there.
Then, I have deselected Emulate a virtual desktop for the specific application
because now that I believe that works I wish to have it runing like a normal
application with its own native windows and not a viertual one. Although I have
this setting, it ignores it and runs it as if it would be enabled.
It seems to me that my settings are not saved or implemented properly.
How to solve these issues and also what is the file name where all my
configurations are saved? This to see on a clear text how wine is set.
Lastly, how do I know if printing and sound would work from any application
installed in wine?
thank you,
Spiro

Severity: critical
Priority: P2

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: I-SAngeli(a)siriush.com
Hi,
I am unable to install AutoCad because Internet Explorer is not installed /
detected by wine.
I started a Gentoo Forum Thread, which is:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-386592-highlight-.html
I was adviced to install ies4linux.
I am at the point that Internet Explorer through ies4linux still does not
install properly.
So, I wish to ask two questions:
1) Is ies4linux the way to go or how to install Internet Explorer > 6.0 properly
in wine so that the applications I wish to install which relies on IE gets
installed?
2) If ies4linux is indeed the way to go, once IE is properly installed, how to
move (if I have to for consistency) all what was installed under .wine? I would
prefer having all applications installed under .wine, so that I have one Program
s one system folder. This will allow me to also have all the dll files all in
one plae when new apps create them.
Thank you for your support.

In at least one test, it took four minutes for Picasa's
to start its initial scan of the hard drive for images.
On Windows it starts immediately.
(Note that there was an NFS directory involved
in this test. The test should perhaps be
repeated without any NFS directories mounted.)

Yes, I have the same issue. I can scroll, but when i try to access the menu bar
it crashes it.
Now, reading Comment #10 From Mike McCormack I am having troubles understanding
the PATH of the security.c file (if I correctly understand) is in my local PC
(Gentoo - Linux) So,two questions:
1) Will Mike McCormack attachment solve the issue and allows wdviewer.exe
properly run withouth crash?
2) If so, how to implement it with some references like the actual path to look
for, the actual file name, and how to make/implement the change.
This will be helpful for those less experienced with Linux. :-)
