Summary: Not accepting new applications for custom configuration
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jamesl(a)bestweb.net
In winecfg (wine built from CVS tree, post 20050830)
1: open winecfg application
2: enter name of application to customize settings for. In my case, I was
customizing for Quicken 2000 (in ~/.wine/drive_c/Apps/quicken2k), tried with
relative path (\Apps\quicken2k\qw.exe), full Windows path
(c:\Apps\quicken2k\qw.exe) and app name by itself (qw.exe). Cannot browse to
application, as that will cause winecfg to crash.
3: After adding application, click on OK to close settings.
4: start winecfg again, qw.exe entry will be missing
As I cannot add an application, I am also unable to further customize the
application settings. I would like to set this one to a "managed" desktop, but
cannot find any other likely place than this to do it. But since it does not
keep the setting, I cannot do it. I am also not able to select the application
entry for further editing before closing the dialogue.
AN EXTRA NOTE: The "quicken2k" directory isn't physically under
~/.wine/drive_c/Apps. it is actually a symlink to that location on my Windows
"C" drive (it would be c:\Apps\quicken2k if booted to Windows, thus why it is
placed where it is under ~/.wine). I don't really see that as an issue, as it
does not keep the entry regardless of how I format the entry, so it wouldn't be
validating the file anyway.

WoW -opengl works perfectly for me, now.
Wine 80050830 compiled from source.
AMD64, Fedora4_64, Nvidia 6800 v7667
And in WoW's WTF/Config.wtf file:
SET SoundOutputSystem "1"
SET SoundBufferSize "232"
(RedHat Defaults to 232ms)
When wine supports ALSA DirectSound you can change to "2"

wineprefixcreate - testversion
This is my testing - version of wineprefixcreate from March 2005.
This Version has support for $WINEDEBUG, a framework for localized directories
and more options.
I stopped the development when i tried to filter dlls/shell/*.rc for
the translated directory-names.
Additional reasons: The fixed references to "c:\windows" in wine + wine.inf
and my missing knowledge about KISS and CVS at the end of March.
Some things changed in the official Version of wineprefixcreate
(system32, added programs) in the meantime!
Have fun.

should have a different PIDTemplate, so I'll have to investigate how that
happens.

Replying to Comment #2: If Wine had its own implementation of the Windows shell
interface (EXPLORER.EXE), surely this would fix the problem, because then people
would have the choice of using Wine's command-line interface (which looks for
files in the current directory) or the shell interface (which looks for files in
the working directory specified in a shortcut).

ok I tried:
while (*p && *p == '-')
{
total++;
p++;
}
now and now the bottom field is alright (although the second part is a bit long,
but I guess thats ok), but the top field is still totally wrong. It is changed,
however.
Note that outputting the mask (with ERR(...)) outputs the same mask twice
although the top mask should be quite a bit different. Why ?

I added a ERR("HERE: mask %s\n", debugstr_w(mask)); to static struct
msi_maskedit_info * msi_dialog_parse_groups( LPCWSTR mask ) as well, which
outputs this:
err:msi:msi_dialog_parse_groups HERE: mask L"12345<###-%%%%%%%>@@@@@"
err:msi:msi_dialog_parse_groups HERE: mask L"12345<###-%%%%%%%>@@@@@"
Now the msdn says something like the "#" means it "can" be a digit and the "%"
means that it "can" be an alternative digit, whatever that is. weird.
Note that the stuff that I enter are largely _not_ digits, just 5 digits in
total, remainder alphabethic characters.
And the patch as is doesnt change anything regarding box size/number of
characters that can be entered, as far as I can see when running it.

Do not copy winamp directory from native windows installation to wine, just
install the app. in wine itsself
Apart from some small visual bugs (how winamps windows look) , the basic
functionality of winamp works just fine on current CVS. I think this bug can be
closed.

Summary: Small fonts unreadable and can't be enlarged
Product: Wine
Version: 20050628
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P1
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: djtm(a)gmx.net
In some applications the small fonts can't be read as they're simply too small
in Wine, even though there is no Problem under Windows.
This renders some applications totally unusable, though library support is
flawless.
And there seems to be no ability to fix it in the wine config file.
Nobody in IRC could help me either. And Google isn't helpful either.
The [fonts] Resolution option has no impact, no matter what I put there.
Setting a default font doesn't help either.
All important font types are installed.
I tried font rendering solely by the x-server without success, too.
Also I could'nt find an option for a minimum font size.
And there are reports that the Crossover Office version has a fix for it
already.
So there must be a bug somewhere.
Thannks for reading. I hope this'll be fixed sometime soon. It'll be too late
for me anyway ;) (I needed it for a driver's training software, the questions
and answers are unreadable though... )

Summary: wininet: bad Host header generated if referer doesn't
'crack'
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: All
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-net
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: orin(a)pinhead.cc
If a 'referer' is passed into HttpOpenRequest in a form that InternetCrackUrlW
fails to crack, the host header will be generated from an uninitialized local
variable.
There are two things wrong here.
Firstly, the return from InternetCrackUrlW isn't tested for success before using
the results.
Secondly, the Host header should not be derived from the Referer header. The
Host header should be derived from the URL that is being requested if the URL
contains a host or from the server if not.
>From the HTTP spec (RFC 2616):
"The Host request-header field specifies the Internet host and port
number of the resource being requested, as obtained from the original
URI given by the user or referring resource (generally an HTTP URL,
as described in section 3.2.2)."
This does seem ambiguous, but it should be read: ...as obtained from the
original URI (given by the user or referring resource (generally an HTTP URL,
as described in section 3.2.2))
It's just noting where the original URI came from.
I'll submit a patch that prevents this particular problem, but haven't yet
considered the implications if going through a proxy.

I will attach a new version of wine_marlett.ttf, which should fix it. It looks
like the fonts in wine-20050830-SuSELinux93.i586.rpm were built with an old
version of fontforge, so I'm assigning this bug to Marcus. (I used
fontforge-0.0.20050904-1 in Debian unstable to build the new font)
I'll also send a patch for Wine so that it does not insist on SYMBOL_CHARSET.
To try the new wine_marlett.ttf, copy it into ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts
NB. In the next release of Wine, you will not need the Fonts\Replacements key.

btw. are you using a stripped Wine binary? The backtrace doesn't show the names
of the function that it crashed in. Could you please try installing an
unstripped binary and making another backtrace?
The trace shows:
trace:msi:MSI_GetPropertyW returning L"<????-??????-??????-????>" for property
L"SerialNumberTemplate"
...
trace:msi:msi_dialog_create_window Dialog L"CustomerInformation" control
L"[SerialNumberTemplate]" hwnd 0x10
046
wine: Unhandled exception (thread 000b), starting debugger...
So it's crashing somewhere in the dialog code, dealing with product keys... but
it's hard to tell which function without a Wine build with symbols.
Ideally build and run using the Wine CVS... (you can do that without installing)

All installers created with InnoSetup fail (current Wine CVS).
This has been discussed on wine-devel:

I hope that Frank's patch will get checked in or that some of the core Wine
developers will fix this. It's a very important bug.

------- Additional Comments From lionel.ulmer(a)free.fr 2005-07-09 23:55 -------
For me, this is not a bug in Wine but rather a lack of a wrapper around wine
itself. For example, in Windows, if you start an application from the command
line, you can run it from a directory different from the one the application is.
On the other hand, if you double click on the application icon in the Shell
Explorer (or use a shortcut), then it will change directory before starting the
application.
If Wine always did the directory change, one could not emulate 1) (which could
be a problem for some other applications who may explicitely be started by a
parent application from another directory than the one they are in).

I filed 3142 for a delphi 1 win16 print component problem. The short story I
think is on some 16 bit windows applications the printer .drv has to be loaded
to access info about the printer like page length and width. Native drivers
can't be loaded in wine.

Odd, desktop mode doesnt help for me at all....just the same as when I dont

it using the command "WINEDEBUG=-all wine hl2.exe -steam -width 1024 -height
768 +map_background none &".

Let's wait on this one. Alexandre said the patch was applied two weeks ago, but
I experienced the same issues when I tried the August release. (I experienced
less behavior bugs when I applied the patch on my own awhile back.) Hopefully,
he applied the patch *after* the August release, and things will be fixed for
the September release.
