Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: fieroch(a)web.de
With M$ Windows it is very usefull to switch to a browser or instant messenger
with ALT+TAB while playing a game in fullscreen and to switch back to the game
after that break.
With many window managers you can switch back to a console with ALT+TAB but the
screen resolution is not restored. If a game uses the resolution 640x480 and you
switch back to the desktop, the resolution is still 640x480 and too low for
working. Wine should restore the old resolution the desktop had before starting
the game (e.g. 1280x1024) and restore the game resolution when switching back to
the game.

Alexander

Many games require pressing mouse keys while key "ALT" is pressed. But if you
press ALT + right mouse button many window managers catch that event and move
the window with alt + mouse button. So wine should catch all key events and
should only hand over events that M$ windows gets too - like ALT+TAB to switch
back to the console.

Some more informations.
Wine version: 20050725
The problem seems to be related with css encrypted discs.
Scenarios:
A:
1)put an unencrypted disc and mount it
2)run dvd shrink and open the disc
=> success
B:
1)put a css encrypted disc and mount it
2)run dvd shrink and open the disc
=> failure
C:
1)put a css encrypted disc and mount it
2)run dvdbackup and let it find the keys using libdvdcss
3)run dvd shrink and open the disc
=> success
D:
1)put a css encrypted disc and mount it
2)run dvd shrink and open the disc (failure)
3)run dvdbackup and let it find the keys using libdvdcss
=> failure (i.e. dvdbackup fails until I umount and remount the disc)
Using Wine 20050628 the same problems arise. Before everything was working from
the start but I think that before gnome was opening my dvd using a media player
when automounting so that the decryption process might already have taken place
before I run DVD Shrink.
I'm changing the title of this bug report to reflect this.
WINEDEBUG=+aspi doesn't give more informations.

Patch which should fix the bug
I looked around in the source and think I have found the difference between
search and appbrowse. The attached patch should fix the bug (I could not test
it). This is the first time I have worked on appdb so I might have
misunderstood something.

those which are not reviewed and therefore hidden in the "Viewing App"-page. I
have tested this with an application, for which I have added a new Version which
has not yet been reviewed, but it doesn't matter whether I'm logged in or not.
The number is correctly shown in the "Browse Applications"-page.

Summary: Quicken 2002 Deluxe dialog freezes in loop
Product: Wine
Version: 20050725
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: shamiwillms(a)gmail.com
In Quicken 2002 Deluxe, when you "split" a transaction, the dialog that comes up
displays properly for a split second and then seems to go into a refresh loop.
It clears the dialog and seems to loop in being drawn or something. Nothing I
tried seems to bring it out of the loop. This makes it unusable to run Quicken
because this dialog is commonly used.
This problem has existed for Quicken 2002 Deluxe since wine version 20050111.
When I manually compile 20041201, Quicken works perfectly for splitting
transactions. So I have been using an old version of wine.
If you have any questions about this, please don't hesitate to contact me.
thanks,
Shami.

Hello,
playing games in fullscreen using a dual head xserver (two screens) works fine
but the mouse is not locked completely to the window. When I move the mouse
cursor to the right out of the screen 0 to the screen 1, the game minimizes and
the cursor is set to the right screen. Wine should lock the mouse cursor in
fullscreen games to one screen.

I have recognised exactly the same problem with Wine 20050725 and the NVIDIA
drivers 1.0-7667.
I don't know, if other versions (Wine and graphic drivers) work better,
because I've installed Steam only few days ago. In other games there are no
such problems with mouse movement at all.

The recently applied patch (see URL) to create DEVICEMAP registry keys based
on the /proc filesystem breaks Wine on systems without IDE support, as it
simply assumes /proc/ide to be present - which is not the case on pure SCSI
systems.
According to strace, Wine segfaults as soon as it tries to access /proc/ide,
and removing the IDE enumeration from Vitaliy Margolen's patch fixes the crash
(not a real fix, of course, but the best a non-coder could do... ;-) ).

When starting a program under WINE (emulating W98) which uses GetProcAddress to
support functions not available before Windows 2000, the program crashes with an
exception because WINE seems to return a valid function address but nothing
valid is there.
Is it possible at all to fix this? The program uses GetProcAddress() to retrieve
a function pointer and would normally just disable this feature if the pointer
is 0. Here it seems the pointer is not equal to 0!

There is no minimize, maximize buttons.
The menus are quite big (duoble the size).
It spewing out this messages
fixme:imm:ImmGetContext (0x10374) STUB
fixme:imm:ImmSetCompositeWindow stub
I think these functions need to be implemented as most of the IME
applicatations and internal imm functions use the above 2 stubbed
functions.
I think the problem of menu being double size is due to imm stuff.

Well, as gamma control is not something mandatory for games and that some games
(proof here) abort if these function return an error, there is no harm to make
the game believe the call works (if we did not do that, no game at all would run
as there is a lot of stubs for 'optionnal' stuff).
For example, when in Desktop mode and as X11 does not support 'per-window' gamma
(well actually I think that some visuals do support it), gamma support can be
disabled. And why would we stop supporting some games because the user does not
want his gamma be changed ?
Now this is why I want first to check why we return an error here, and if it's
for a 'good' reason, I do not see the problem of just making the application
believe the call succeeded.

Well, yes you are correct, a quick hack can determine the place where the bug
occures. But i don't think these 2 functions should always return DD_OK in all
circumstances. Maybe there is something wrong with computing the resultvalue?
I can't look further, i am debugging now the mt352 driver for my dvb-t card

Well, the first step about fixing an issue is first to do a hack to see if it's
really the issue to solve.
So this hack is not meant to be the real fix (too often do people spend hours
fixing what they believe is the issue to finally finding out much later that
their work is useless as it does actually not fix the issue).
So my rule of programming is that (in case where the cause of the error is
non-obvious) to always first test a hack and then only work on the proper solution.
I will take a look on what I can do 'cleanly' but frankly I think that the
proper solution will not be that far from the hack I proposed :-)

looks like wheel direction comes in "wParam", but the code ignores it altogether
(wine20050725).
"wParam
The high-order word indicates the distance the wheel is rotated, expressed in
multiples or divisions of WHEEL_DELTA, which is 120. A positive value indicates
that the wheel was rotated forward, away from the user; a negative value
indicates that the wheel was rotated backward, toward the user.
The low-order word indicates whether various virtual keys are down. [...]"
looks like WCUSER_GenerateMouseInputRecord(), wineconsole/user.c#L1036 takes
wParam but doesn't use it. I guess it should pass it on to WriteConsoleInput()
in some form. I'll look further.

IŽm using Wine-20050725-nodebug the slackware package on a linux box. The

it works, but the sound needs help. IŽve copied dsound.dll, dsound.vxd, and
dsound3d.dll from my windows installation into $home/.wine/c/windows/system
and added to the config file šdsoundš = šnativeš. The funny thing is that
when I use Wine-20050524-nodebug, the sound works perfect, no skips, but if I
use Wine-20050725-nodebug with the same config and setup, it only works fine
until I move the window or any windows on my desktop even ones not run by
wine. When I do, it skips. I would just use the older version of wine, but
the menus on the itunes gui donŽt work right and any music I add wonŽt be
there the next time I start up itunes. the error I get says something like
fixme:dsound:DSOUND_MixOne problem with underrun detection (mixlen=15872 <
primary_done=24492). ItŽll say this like 50 times until it stops skipping.
The last number, 24492, is different every time.

I'm not dependent on this wine release, i wanted only reduce regressions of

If iŽm not wrong "Janes F-15" crashed almost exactly the same way when i tried.
Not exactly a surprise since both games are based on the same engine.
The good news is that there is a demo for the F-15 to work with and you can get
it here: http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/f15/f15zip2.exe.html
The bad news however, is that I think this demo only supports glide for 3d

The sound works fine in 20050110.

Hello I am John Barkas(risc4all(a)yahoo.com).
There is a typographic error in the readme.txt file which is inside wine-w32api-
20050725.zip .In the file you write:
"All the contents of the packages are protected by copywrite, and are
the intellectual property of the Wine development team. A complete
list of the copywrite holders is in the AUTHORS file, provided with
this package.". It should be copyright not copywrite ON BOTH WORDS.KEEP UP THE
GOOD WORK!

Should work if you use
wineconsole --backend=user far.exe
Without the --backend=user option it uses terminal emulation (the current
terminal window), and I can confirm that function keys don't work (SUSE 9.3, KDE
konsole, wine-20050211).

Did you try with the most recent WINE versions? Recent versions have advanced
much with installshield and MSI.
