I think that this should be fixed in Wine CVS. Could you still attach a +ddraw
log so that I can check it (or even better would be to use CVS and confirm it
like this :-) ).

I installed wine via Synaptic Package Manager in Ubuntu. I used Synaptic
Package Manager to uninstall. Followed your directions, so far so good,
but here is what I get when I enter 'make'...
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.

ok, thats understandable then. at least you do have some *nix experience from
using a shell account hehe.
Did you install wine from an rpm, or from a tar? If you installed from an rpm,
uninstall it with rpm -e wine, then follow the instructions below. If you
installed from a tar, just follow the instructions below..
Download the october 2004 release of wine from:
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/ALPHA/wine/development/Wine-20041019.tar.gz
save it to your home directory
untar/ungzip it: tar xzvf Wine-20041019.tar.gz
find the directory that was created (it will be in the home directory)
cd to that directory
./configure
make
make install
once it finishes try again (without desktop and dxgrab). If it doesnt work, try
with desktop only, still doesnt work, try with dxgrab _only_.
Whether it works or not, please post here. If it doesn't we will need some log
files. If it does, we will need some more release testing..

I changed "Desktop" = "N" to "Desktop" = "Y" in the config file (is this how
desktop mode is activated? I found no clear instructions on how to make
this happen). I changed the dxgrab option. I am not sure what you mean
by 'check the wine registry for related options to keyboard/mouse
grabbing,' This is my first linux home computer (but have been in shell
online since mid 90s) and I assure you I know less than you think. No
previous version of wine was tried by me to make this happen, so no
success or failure to report. Many thanks for the suggestions, but so far
nothing lets me type the text into the registration boxes when installing.

you can try running the installer in desktop mode, or changing the dxgrab option
(if it exists in your wine config file). Also check the wine registry for
related options to keyboard/mouse grabbing.
If neither of those work, please post the last known version of wine that the
installer worked properly on, if known. If you don't know, let us know that
too, so we can have you try different versions to see if it ever did work.

use for this problem or any logging / testing options that i can send to
you guys ?
Mike, for future reference, please post replies to the email wine-bugs sends you
to the bug being asked about, so anyone else that wants to view the bug can..
Thanks..
As for a good build, like I said before, the october and november releases from
2004 are good to test if it is a gl/window rewrite bug, as that had not been
started back then. If it works in november, but doesnt work in december, then
we are 99% that it is windowing related. If you can get a +relay trace and
attach (dont copy/paste) the 500 lines BEFORE AND AFTER the crash, it would
help, as we could see everything it does leading up to the crash. Also, in case
you were thinking about compressing the log (you would be surprised how many
people do it), when you attach it, please don't, just leave it in plaintext
format. Thanks

Summary: Compile failure: dlls/dinput/tests/Makefile missing an
object
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: test
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: inverseparadox(a)comcast.net
(I hope I'm interpreting the component classifications correctly...)
As of a couple of days ago, in an up-to-date CVS tree, if I run
make distclean; ./configure; make depend; make
the build will fail in dlls/dinput/tests/ trying to create dinput_test.exe.so.
The error is that joystick.o contains undefined references to c_dfDIJoystick,
which is defined (only) in dlls/dinput/data_formats.c. The problem is that the
build line in the Makefile does not reference the needed object; adding
../data_formats.o
to the winebuild command line fixes the problem.
I'm not entirely sure how this has gone unnoticed so far, since the problem
sometimes also occurs when compiling after a simple cvs update without first
running make distclean; it's possible that the failure is something wrong with
my system, but if so I'd certainly like to know what.

screenshot of unmodified endjoin.exe
(eh, did I write "native screenshot" before? I should get some sleep. It was a
wine screenshot ofcourse)
Some testing revealed that Windows does indeed convert the coordinates to DP on
LineTo() etc. so we have to do the conversion in StrokePath() - I submitted a
patch which adjusts the pen width (rather than doing a DP->LP->DP conversion on
the points) @ http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-patches/2005/05/0279.html
With those 2 patches applied endjoin.exe looks quite like native now.

Investigated it a bit:
When StrokePath() is called MWT_IDENTITY is set since the coordinates passed to
PolyLine() in StrokePath() (or LineTo(), etc. before - it was already broken
before my patch) are already device coordinates, converted by PATH_LineTo(),
PATH_MoveTo(), etc. since they all call LPtoDP(), but the pen width isn't ofcourse.
A quick fix is to remove all the mapping mode changes in PATH_StrokePath() and add
DPtoLP(dc->hSelf, pPath->pPoints, pPath->numEntriesUsed);
before the loop - I think that's rather hackish since I wonder if the
coordinates in pPath->pPoints should be DP anyway...

Nope, they are just fine. I attached a native screenshot with increased
pensize.

Another speculation: The mapping mode changes in PATH_StrokePath() might be the
cause...

But the links to Microsoft's page are pretty cool.
The results do seem much more correct. I didn't get time to investigate but
there are two things bothering me:
* the lines are pretty thin yet they are supposed to be pretty thick
* it looks like there is a mixup between PS_JOIN_BEVEL (the middle one) and
PS_JOIN_MITER (the rightmost one). But it's tricky to say because the lines are
so thin. (speculation: the SetWindowExtEx() was not taken into account for the
pen thickness)

An old windows 3.1 program (compiled with a watcom compiler) was failing with
the message Read Error in a window called WATCOM Win386. I found the problem was
due to count being set to 0 in int21, function 3f. In my case the
GetSelectorLimit16 was set at 0xffff (DX was set 0) and would make maxcount 0.
Below is a simple fix (making maxcount a double).

sure thing, love this app 2 work if it can,..
so far i tried it under
20050211 (installed OK crashed on run with no app activity)
20050419 RPM (installed OK crashed but attempted to run and app
complained about missing True type fonts)
CVS Tree as direected by winehq - same as 20050419
- Will try more and send results, is there a particularly good build to
use for this problem or any logging / testing options that i can send to
you guys ?

After rereading this bug, I seem to have somehow missed the first couple of
posts lol. You are right, 2939 is a dupe of this one. The main thing that
threw me off was the reported dates, and reported working CVS Versions. 2939
has the last known working version being early this year, this one has mid-year
last year...
As a general note though, it would be preferred to put what wine says in the
summary (like 2939 did) than to put what a specific program pops up with, as not
all programs will pop up with the same error (if any at all)...
Since the patch fixed both bugs, and both have been closed though, we should
just go ahead and leave them both closed..

Mike, this appears to be due to the windowing/gl rewrite that is currently in
progress. If I can get a few questions answered, it will help in determining if
it is for sure though.
Are you using an up-to-date CVS or a snapshot release?
If you are using a snapshot, which one is it?
Has this program worked in the past?
If you are unsure, can you revert to a snapshot from october or november of
last year, test, and post whether it worked under that release?
Thanks

Congratulations on running the regression test. The best way to find the patch
id, is to go to the main winehq site, go to the mailing list subscription page
(http://www.winqhq.org/site/forums) and go to the wine-cvs archive. Find the
month the problem occurs, and click sorted by date. Then look for the date and
time of the problematic patch and copy the url to that email. Post it here.
In this case, the commit that caused it was:
http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-cvs/2005/01/0276.html
Good job..
In all honesty I was looking at that patch, but nothing looked suspicious..
So.. Now that we have the problematic patch, I will forward this bug to the
developers. Thanks for your help!

I did the regression test.
The patches id posted above are not the origin of the problem.
My results :
* cvs update -PAd -D "2005-01-11 09:10:55 CST" => Pasting an image to OpenOffice
works
* cvs update -PAd -D "2005-01-11 09:10:57 CST" => Pasting doesn't work
The patch made at "2005-01-11 09:10:56 CST" is causing the problem (btw, how can
I find the patch id from that date ?)
The problematic files are :
dlls/x11drv/clipboard.c (rev 1.30)
dlls/x11drv/x11drv.h (rev 1.41)
windows/clipboard.c (rev 1.66)

This bugs the are only with Delphi Applications that can Use TAnimation
component (Win32 Delphi palhete).
This component TAnimation use comctl32.dll (or maybe commctrl.dll, shell32.dll)
to show some builtin animations on win32 api like : FindFolder, FindFile,
FindComputer, CopyFiles,CopyFile, RecycleFile, EmptyRecycle, DeleteFile
When TAnimation is played (TAnimation.Active:=true) in delphi aplication but any
animations is found in resource (win32api) then aplication halt with this
message "Cannot open AVI"
I will submit pascal (delphi source) that is responsable by this error.
Some tests with previous version of wine like wine-20040505, this problem
(cannot open avi) does not exists.
Any workaround for this bug ?

Now I am confused by the only thing: what are duplicate bugs? I thought that
are bugs which can be eliminated by the same patch. The bug of Wine may be only
one, but there may perfectly be lots of applications depending this single
thing, which causes the same consequences in all of these apps.
Such was the case with two bugs: 2081 and 2939.
I really would like to tune up my own definition of "duplicate bug".

Hi,
yes it failed because you don't have GLX_ARB_render_texture extensions.
i'll try to code an emulation using directly pbuffers
for DxDiagProvider problems is for me too as it should work (i have
implemented it).
Anyway D3D9 support is too in alpha stage to work (so you should use openGL).

Raphael

And there is another minor issue: dragging the scrollbar-thumb causes it to
being painted at the old position on mouse-up (and immediate repainted at the
new position).
I submitted a patch for that which was also rejected - but considering that from
seeing that code I concluded that this glitch would happen for all scrollbars,
which is not the case (I should have really checked that, yea), it would have
probably just hidden another bug.
I will investigate this issue again.

Yes, I agree with Mike on the correct bug. The time difference you see is due
to your location on the planet (different time zone from the cvs server).. SO,
I will go ahead and contact Lionel about it, and have him take a look.

Ack! No, no, you have it wrong again - you were right just before! We do want it
to close properly, but we *don't* want the window decorations!
The attachment descriptions are now, again, incorrect - they were incorrect when
I posted them, then you corrected them, then you made them incorrect again.
Other than that, yes, agreed across the board.

Thanks for the trace Roy. Unfortunately it didn't provide the info I was
looking for, which is my fault, as I should have been more specific. Of course
rereading this bug, I notice that it is a regression with the patch causing the
problem already noted.
http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-cvs/2004/12/0100.html is the commit email.
I will forward this to a developer who may be better able to assist in fixing
this bug..

This was reported in bug 2924. I see you already tried removing the offending
line, that is the only fix we have for right now, until the author of this code
can get around to writing a patch for his patch.
For future reference, please search the database using the query bugs link on
the left navbar before posting a bug, to see if it has already been reported.

I see what you are saying and I agree. I was just misunderstanding I think, and
I agree, it would be better to keep that sort of thing in a private email, off
the bug (except for the relevant bits to the bug).. So I will go ahead and
change the description of the attachments to properly reflect the situation, but
I can't do anything about the filename lol..
So to clarify a bit more.. We want the game to exit properly, but we do not want
the window decorations either.. The reason for this is because under windows,
the game plays in a window, but changes the resolution, which effectively makes
it fullscreen, so there is no need to have the titlebars. Under linux, the way
wine and x11 interact, you can change the resolution yourself, regardless of
what the game wants you to be able to do, so even if the game isnt showing in
fullscreen, we don't want the titlebars, as having them would be incorrect from
a conformance standpoint..
Of course the true proper thing would be to fix wine so you cant change the
resolution if the game wants to make it 640x480, and to have the game minimize
in the way windows 3.1 windows did (shade the window and decrease the titlebar's
width) so that if there is no taskbar, the game can still be brought back.. but
that would be too much customization for 1 game, so it's better to leave things
the way they are, and just fix the bug at hand..
My best guess now that I am clear is that the patch that caused the problem is
part of the window rewrite, and therefore made the titlebar visible, but the
game hanging is due to that patch indirectly (it revealed another bug somewhere
else)..
So.. I will forward this (rather long bug) to the devel list and see what logs
they would need, and if we can get them, we will....

Got your email, unfortunately, a bit too late. I won't be available for a few
days in the evening (any time in the morning is good though lol).
Basically if you go to the main winehq site and look thru the faqs/docs for
regression testing you can find step by step instructions. You have the hard
part of compiling from CVS down, which is compiling the source. You don't
_need_ the wine-cvsdirs package though, although you can get it if you want..
Basically you login to cvs with cvs login, checkout the current version of wine
and copy (not move) the directory you checked it out to.
Update the original download directory to a _previous_ date a minute or so
before the time in this email:
http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-cvs/2005/01/0107.html is good..
Then compile and test, and report whether it works or not. If it does, update
to about a minute after that email and do the same. If it still works, update
to a minute or so before the time in this email:
http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-cvs/2005/01/0278.html test and report. If
it _still_ does, update to a minute or so after that email, and do the same. If
it works after that, we are back to square one.
The first time it stops working (in a version a minute after a patch time in
cvs) is your signal that the patch you just updated 1 minute past is the one
causing the problem..
Make sure you include the timezone in the update commands, or else we wont know
which version of the files you are testing with, in case none work..
By the way, the link to the regression testing info is at:
http://winehq.org/site/docs/wine-devel/x1316

Ok. Now that we have 2 users reporting it. I happened to miss who it was
making the posts.. lol And here's Damian! lmao ok..
Confirming per votes/multi-user report.
Basically, the notes above explain it, but a recap:
MM6 comes with the file mss32.dll compressed (like many executables do) using a
program called shrinker. The game will not run until the program DeShrinker is
run on that file. Once it is run, the game operates fine, with the exception of
the other bugs currently reported.
If you are another user that has this issue, please try latest wine version. If
that does not work, or you have it already, use the program attached to this bug
to uncompress mss32.dll.
If any logs are needed, either of the users here could provide them with
guidance on which winedebug strings are needed.

Summary: Error while installing PAF 4
Product: Wine
Version: 20050310
Platform: PC

OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: lamber45(a)cse.msu.edu
PAF 4 uses InstallShield. The first time I tried to run the installer on a
clean account, it got to the point where it allowed me to set to select a
language for the rest of the installation, then popped up a progress-bar with
0% progress and said something like "The installation program is preparing the
InstallShield Wizard...". Soon after that, it popped up another dialog
saying something like "The installation-program could not initialize the
installation-module (0x80040150)". When I clicked "OK", it closed silently
without having installed anything.
When I tried to re-run the program and select English as the
interface-language, it hung on a splash screen after the language selection.
This was the last line of debug output:

Installing Quicktime4 from the same disk pops up a nice installation window and
