(The next one is bug 14045.) When you start SketchUp, it puts up a dialog saying "Welcome to Sketchup". When you click "Start using Sketchup", it crashes before putting up the main window. You can work around it by checking "Don't show this again", and then running the app again, but it would be nice if that wasn't needed. Mike Hearn said the cause was mshtml wasn't refcounted properly, so I checked... and he's right. I have installed winetricks, and done the OPEN-GL fix. Sketchup loaded under Wine, but when running the program, while the toolbars and menus all display correctly, the work area remains blank (black). The cursor displays in the work area, but when you draw with it, there aren't any lines. I assumed this was a problem which required the use of a new graphics card until last week when, after downloading lots of updates, Sketchup began to work the correct way, the display was white with the axis lines showing. I decided I wanted a different template, so I changed it and re-started Sketchup. Clicking through that produces a second message with block characters clicking through that ends program. I tried the the usual Sketchup Display registry key change of 0 to 1. This changed the behavior to eliminate the two error messages and the program crashes silently. The terminal output in this case is more informative and is attached. Obviously this is quite a problem as one of the major additions to SketchUp 7 was Dynamic Component support. I checked and found out that I had to remove an nvidia driver I had installed. OpenGL started working then, but SketchUp stpped working. At start it says: err:module:load_builtin_dll failed to load .so lib for builtin L"OPENGL32.dll": libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory err:module:import_dll Loading library OPENGL32.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program Files\\Google\\Google SketchUp 8\\SketchUp.exe") failed (error c000007a). err:module:load_builtin_dll failed to load .so lib for builtin L"GLU32.dll": libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory err:module:import_dll Loading library GLU32.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program Files\\Google\\Google SketchUp 8\\SketchUp.exe") failed (error c000007a). The funny thing is that if I apt-get remove nvidia-current and logout/login, I have a working unity 3d (opengl). If I now apt-get install nvidia-current, I can run SketchUp without problem. But If I logout/login OpenGL doesn't work. Is there any trick I can do to get just SketchUp using the so files from the nvidia driver, without disturbing the other parts of my system? Test OS was Puppy Linux Racy 5.5. Google SketchUp 7 and 8 (free version) have for a long time failed to properly export drawings as 2D graphics. Files produced are either transparent blank, or entirely black images. Files affected are .png, .bmp, and .jpg. exports. Wine 1.5.4 seems to have resolved this issue. (see https://sites.google.com/site/sketchupsage/problems/linux -- list of wine version issues resolved near bottom of page). I have successfully output SketchUp 2D graphic files with that version. However an upgrade to current Wine Stable 1.6.2 broke this capability again for me, and a further test of 1.7.30 also showed the same 2D graphic export problem. After removing 1.7.30, and re-installing 1.5.4, the capability to save drawings as 2D graphics from Google 7 & 8 returned. 2D graphic export is a critical function of the free version of Google Sketchup 7 and 8 -- it basically allows the production of plans, drawing, and image files from SketchUp. It is essential functionality. Without it, files can only be produced via an external screen capture program at low resolution. When the file steam_api.dll is being analyzed by PiD, the application seems to come into an infinite loop while using 100% CPU. As a result, scanning this particular file never finishes. The program interface is still responding so it's not hung completely. Nothing relevant in the terminal. To reproduce: Unrar and start Protection_ID.eXe, click the <Scan> button, <Single File> and browse for an existing steam_api.dll (majority of Steam games have one). Status shows "Steam Scan..." but scanning is never completed. In order to get the latter to install, I followed a suggestion to use the Windows XP version in winecfg for the installer. This seems to do the trick with the installation. This is the testcase I used to develop my patch. It requires a specific AD server so I cannot add it to the tree. In theory the crash actually breaks device notification, but I'm not sure what devices Thunderbird is trying to be notified of, or if Wine actually supports hotplugging them. The only visible symptom is: 01a0:err:virtual:virtual_setup_exception stack overflow 560 bytes in thread 01a0 addr 0x7f87f3cd7c73 stack 0x19a70dd0 (0x19a70000-0x19a71000-0x1a270000) This thread is then terminated. It seems that it doesn't affect the rest of the process. But the exception bothered me, and upon examination it happens inside of RtlCaptureStackBackTrace(). What the application actually does is to hook LdrLoadDll and then later trigger delay-loading for some rpcrt4 function from sechost. Inside of the hook it calls RtlCaptureStackBackTrace(). The problem is that one of the functions is missing unwinding information. The function in question is __tailMerge_dlls_rpcrt4_librpcrt4_delay_a, generated by dlltool. It's missing seh annotations (and is not in a form compatible with SEH). The full call stack is something like this: - RtlCaptureStackBackTrace - application hook of LdrLoadDll - LdrResolveDelayLoadedAPI [dlls/ntdll/loader.c] - __delayLoadHelper2 [sechost.dll, from libs/winecrt0/delay_load.c] - __tailMerge_dlls_rpcrt4_librpcrt4_delay_a [sechost.dll, from libs/rpcrt4/librpcrt4.delay.a] - RpcStringBindingComposeW [delay thunk in sechost.dll, tail caller] - device_notify_proc [sechost.dll, dlls/sechost/service.c] RtlCaptureStackBackTrace() tries to unwind past the tailMerge function, but can't, and ends up recursing until the stack overflows. The rest seems to work good enough to be used everyday (including the thumbnails and UI, that are displayed with the right colors). Working on this photo and saving it give a file with right colors (if not opened in Capture NX and Wine of course). Originals files have been tested with others softwares (Showfoto, aftershot pro...) to be sure the matter doesn't come from file. The install of Capture NX 2 was done as following : - Forced 32 bits prefix (I'm on Ubuntu 64 bits) - Regedit before install : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\X11 Driver\ClientSideWithRender=N HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\OnlyUseLatestCLR=dword:00000001 - winetricks dotnet20sp2 dotnet40 gdiplus mfc40 mfc42 vcrun2010 - install the demo version (entering serial key also work) I use Ubuntu 12.10 64bit and have an AMD graphic card with catalyst driver. However, it does not work in some situations. Consider a 32 bit Windows application (composed of one small EXE and many linked DLLs), which has the attached manifest file embedded via: mt.exe /manifest Appx.exe.manifest /outputresource:Appx.exe;#1 Now in the 32 bit application you have this C++ code: hr = ::CoCreateInstance(CLSID_KCUnitop, NULL, CLSCTX_INPROC_SERVER, IID_IKCUnitopSimulation, (void**)&m_pKCHunitopSimulation); Then it fails saying the component is not registered. CLSID_KCUnitop comes from: MIDL_DEFINE_GUID(CLSID, CLSID_KCUnitop,0xC4203DFD,0x03FA,0x11D3,0x9B,0xC7,0x00,0x50,0x04,0x09,0xFB,0x41); This corresponds to the second comclass entry in the manifest file: <file name="kcunitop.dll"> <comClass clsid="{27345ECA-2B0E-11D3-BF76-0090271CC18F}" threadingModel="Apartment"/> <comClass clsid="{C4203DFD-03FA-11D3-9BC7-00500409FB41}" threadingModel="Apartment"/> </file> Registering the dll first using 'regsvr32 kcunitop.dll' does work around the issue. The reason is a slightly different handling of date/time functions. I suspect an incompatibility of the COleDateTime class member. For reproducing the problem, install the software "Zorro" from http://opserver.de/down/Zorro_setup.exe in its default directory. When the Software opens, select "Workshop4" on the "Script" scrollbox, then click "Test". When launching for the first time, Steam tries to install DirectX, .NET 2.0, Punkbuster and MS Visual C++ 2005 SP1. I had to manually delete the DirectX installer and recreate the wine prefix in order to avoid the installer to try installing DirectX. Either way, letting it install DIrectX or not, Far Cry 2 fails to initialize. It starts by showing a black box in the middle of the screen (probably where the logo should appear) and a warning window is shown: "Your video card drivers are too old. Please update them." Pressing OK, the executable continues for a few seconds until a message in the terminal output states that the function d3dx9_36.dll.D3DXGetShaderInputSemantics is missing. Then the application crashes.
