Its for playing Audio CDs (and Mixed Mode CD,s). If you have a "No windows"
instalation then you may need to create a system.ini and put at least the
following inside
[mci]
cdaudio=mcicda.drv
Altrenatively you might get further along if you try
[Version]
; Windows version to imitate
(win95,win98,winme,nt351,nt40,win2k,winxp,win2k3,win20,win30,win31)
"Windows" = "win2k"
^^^^^^
my current guess is that it is trying to play an audio track.

What I wanted Wine to do, is access the default device configured in my
~/.asoundrc instead of direct hardware access, so I could run two sounds at the
same time or do other nice things, that ALSA allows me to do.

I did investigate this issue some time ago, and found out that the menu works if
you are using the English language. After selecting another language, The Bat!
removes the default English menubar and inserts a localized one. The method of
insertion it uses somehow prevents any further menu activity. This is true for
all versions of The Bat! from 1.62 to 2.0 and maybe newer versions.

With version 20031016 the board of my pinball game looked ok.
With version 20031118 and above it looks like
most of the pixels of the background of my
pinball game (program is just called 'pinball.exe'
and I think it comes with NT) are not drawn at all,
and if they are, they have the wrong color.
May be it has to do with the allocation
of colors?
Loocking at a screenshot might give you
a better clue of what's going wrong.

winepath was working in wine-20031212, but now it does not work with absolute
unix paths.
It seems to be due to some changes in slash and back-slash processing in
kernel32.dll. kernel32 now does not convert unix to dos path names, so
winepath needs to implement it by itself.
If I run winepath -- -l path/to/file
I get path\to\file (ok)
If I run winepath -- -l /home/user/path/to/file
I get \home\user\path\to\file (wrong)
when I should get f:\path\to\file

I pretty much copy/pasted the existing macro.
I haven't written C in a looong time, so apologies if it isn't that great or
fast.
Well, premature optimization is the source of all evil.

Bug 321 (msvcrt.printf does not support %S & %C) is a variation of this bug
Bug 427 (msvcrt.fscanf does not support all format fields) is closed and the
solution was to reimplement *scanf the "Windows" way.
The solution to this bug ( and Bug 321 ) is to reimplement *printf the "windows
way.
This has been discussed on Wine devel under the following thread.

It appears as though the program is caught in some kind of infinite loop, but
the output from +relay doesn't seem to shed any light on the problem. I would
include the output, but it's about 1Gb in size. I doubt anyone will have an
answer form this short message, but please feel free to request whatever output
you might think is needed. Thank you in advance,

Summary: vsnprintf: glibc and win32 not compatible

tf_and_wprintf_functions.asp
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: uh_ja(a)gmx.net
Format specifiers of the glibc vsnprintf are not compatible with its win32
counterpart. URL links to a short description at msdn. Compare to "man
vsnprintf". Wine calls glibc's vanilla vsnprintf.
Similar bug reports are #321 and #427.
An example of a conflict follows:
Warcraft III uses *snprintf to create a single player profile. Currently under
wine, creation of a single player profile fails to produce correct data because
*snprintf produces an invalid file, and single player campaign will subsequently
not show. Warcraft makes a call similar to this to store a special value:
snprintf(s, size, "%I64d", x);
glibc vsnprintf interprets "%I64d" to be:
I: Internationlize number format
64: pad number to 64 digits
d: int type
Therefore, an internationlized int padded to 64 digits.
A win32 vsnprintf should interpret "%I64d" to be:
I64: "64-bit integer"
d: int
Therefore, a "64-bit int".
An incorrect statement in a Warcraft III profile "Campaign.w3p" produced using
glibc's vsnprintf:
Human= 1
(64 padded, and wrong integer type)
Here I hack together a workaround to handle the special Warcraft III case:
int MSVCRT_vsnprintf(char *str, size_t size, const char *format, va_list ap)
{
int x;
TRACE("(%p=\"%s\",%d,%p=\"%s\",%p)\n", str, str, size, format, format, ap);
if (strcmp(format, "%I64d")==0) {
x = vsnprintf(str, size, "%lld", ap);
} else {
x = vsnprintf(str, size, format, ap);
}
TRACE("retval=\"%s\"\n", str);
return x;
}
And if this is called for _vsnprintf, the output is as follows:
Human=-4035225266123964415
(a long long int)
Creating a single player profile using the hack produces a correct profile, and
the single player campaign buttons are displayed.
This is just one issue with the different vsprintf format standards. I'm sure
there are many subtle bugs like this, if you consider the conflicts and other
unhandled statements.

Somehow you ran your program with --debugmsg -all which disables all messages.
Please rerun it with --debugmsg +wave,+dsound
Also, whenever wine drops into the debugger, type bt at the prompt so
we know where it crashed. Without this info, there is not enough information
for someone to help.
What distribution of linux are you running and what is the sound card you are

Summary: Can't get Wine working with ALSA's dmix-plugin
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-multimedia
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: stephan(a)gsklan.de
I've configured almost my complete system to use ALSA's dmix-plugin for
sound-access.
As I use ALSA with Wine, too, I tried several times to play the sound over
ALSA's devices (I've configured ALSA to use the plugins dmix and dsnoop by
default). But all my work was for nothing, because Wine wants to access the
hardware directly over "hw:0,0" instead of e.g. "default" or "plug:dmix".
So I suggest to implement a way to configure Wine's ALSA-access. The best way
would probably be something like the configure-ability of OSS in the config-file.
I hope it's not a request too hard to realize - not at least because ALSA is
used as sound-standard since kernel 2.6!

In the OGRE 0.13.1 sources, in file OgreD3D7RenderSystem.cpp line 551 & 552 we have:
DDPIXELFORMAT pf;
lpTarget->GetPixelFormat(&pf);
There is a bug here, the pf structure is not properly initialized with:
pf.dwSize = sizeof(DDPIXELFORMAT);
However, since it works (I guess) under Windows, I'm pretty convinced that
Windows behave slighty differently than we do.

Arghhh!!! This should have been before the patch!!!
It seems OGRE does not initialize correctly the DDPIXELFORMAT structure.
Or maybe this structure is trashed at some point.
Here is a hack that fixed the problem before things are figured out and properly
fixed (this could be a tutorial as well to start hacking on DDRAW/D3D :-)).
BTW: Does this work under Windows?

My apologies for the delay. I haven't forgotten about this but I have recently
become very busy and I might not be able to get to this for another week or so.
I will attempt to upgrade ALSA installations and see if that solves the problem.
I'll let you know when I have done so. Thanks.

error 1608
Product: Wine

InstallShield repeatedly fails in wine when trying to install the Boson Router Simulator with the
error message:

This is an InstallShield error.
I saw this error discusses on the mail list where someone was trying to install iTunes. They
were told to enter the bug but I haven't seen it in the database. Please disregard if this is a
duplicate.
I have tried changing several of the dlls to no avail.

I'm still seeing this bug, or something like it, with the Rhapsody music service
(installer can be found at www.listen.com). The problem doesn't occur during
installation (which seems to work fine), but after it's installed-- when you run
the program it should bring up a modal dialog to log in. The dialog actually
seems to be active (hitting ESC does cause it to cancel) but you can't see it.
I can provide screenshots and output dumps if necessary.
This also seems similar to the description of bug 825, is that a duplicate of
this one? Or a different bug?
